An excellent morning for Essex, who are building a sizeable first-innings lead after what had been a low scoring first day.

Adam Wheater (72 not out) has led the way and been helped by Ryan ten Doeschate (40 not out) who is not only defying the Middlesex attack, but also a back injury that saw him retire hurt for a period on 31.

The pitch does appear to have flattened today with less seam and swing while young spinner Thilan Wallalawita has bowled economically, but is yet to find the response from the pitch that his opposite number Simon Harmer did on day one.

  3. Rushworth closes-in on landmark scalppublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Chris Rushworth needs one more wicket to reach 500 in firs-class cricket for Durham, but he will have to wait until this afternoon to do it.

Although he got Ben Slater for a sixth ball duck in the first over of Notts' first innings, that is the only wicket to fall so far and they are 54-1 at lunch.

Ben Duckett has 33 and Haseem Hameed 17. Hameed should have been caught on 17 by the keeper, but he dropped an edge off Ben Raine's bowling.

He also survived a very good shout for lbw early in his innings.

Durham fell six runs short of a third batting point when they were dismissed for 294 as Brydon Carse fell for 41, edging a bouncer from Zak Chappell to the slips, while Peter Trego pulled off a Superman catch at mid-off to dismiss Ben Raine for 31.

Raine had been in the wars and was struck a few times so decided to drive a ball from Jake Ball and paid the price.

Oh to be a fly on the wall of Derbyshire's dressing room right now.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Madsen lbw b Balderson 4 (Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 17-4)

    The Derbyshire dream is ending!

George Balderson traps Wayne Madsen lbw to leave the visitors on 17-4!

Derbyshire realistically need to win to qualify for the final. It's going to be very, very tough from this position.

Ollie Robinson is squared up by a good ball from Tom Scriven and Joe Weatherley pouches the catch at third slip.

Kent now 76-6 and still 115 runs behind.

  13. Middlesex finally find a breakthroughpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Essex (194-6) lead Middlesex (138) by 56 runs

Wicket time finally for Middlesex on what has so far been a frustrating morning for their bowlers.

Martin Andersson traps Simon Harmer leg before with a ball that keeps a bit low and the South African departs for a very handy 32.

He and Adam Wheater (62 not out) put on 72 there after coming together when Ryan ten Doescate had to retire hurt on 31.

Still no sign of him returning as Aaron Beard comes out to join Wheater.

    du Plooy lbw b Lamb 0 (Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 15-3)

    And another!

Marvellous from Danny Lamb, three balls later he sends Leus du Plooy marching back to the dressing room for a duck.

Plumb in front. Figures of 3-1 so far for Lamb.

Lancashire are doing Yorkshire a huge favour right now!

  15. wicket

    Godleman c Jennings b Lamb 6 (Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 15-2)

Big wicket at Aigburth as Keaton Jennings catches Derbyshire skipper Billy Godleman off the bowling of Danny Lamb.

This game could slip away from Derbyshire if they're not too careful...

  16. Postpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Worcestershire 64-1 v Somerset

Hmmm on closer inspection Daryl Mitchell's wicket looks like it was actually sliding down.

I think it's missing by a lot, Adam thinks it's missing by a smidge but the umpire gave the Worcestershire opener out.

Have a see for yourselves. Did Somerset get fortunate here?

A big, big wicket in the race for the final. Somerset were looking frustrated in the field, but they've finally got their man.

  19. Postpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Worcestershire 57-0 v Som 251

So nearly for Jack Leach straight away as Jake Libby inside-edges it for four.

It's turning in Worcestershire, I wouldn't want to bat on this pitch on day four.

Actually I wouldn't want to bat against county bowlers on any day.
