WICKETpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Leaning c McManus b Scriven 14 (Kent 64-5 v Hampshire 191)

I was just about to write something along the lines of, "Kent are doing their best to mount a recovery against Hampshire..." until Tom Scriven struck with the ball for the visitors.

Jack Leaning edges a beauty of an away-swinger from the young right-armer through the Lewis McManus to depart for 14.

Kent in deep trouble now at 64-5 as their hopes of overhauling South Group leaders Essex continue to dwindle.

Heino Kuhn (23 not out) potentially holds the key for them.

  2. 50 runs

Essex (171-5) lead Middlesex (138) by 33 runs

Half-century for Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater as he pushes a couple into the offside off Martin Andersson.

It's come off 76 balls with seven fours and he's the first player on either side to reach the landmark in this match as the hosts continue to build their first-innings lead.

  3. wicket

Lancashire 219 all outpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Burrows c Madsen b Reece 1 (Lancashire 219 v Derbys)

George Burrows didn't last long, caught by Wayne Madsen at slip off the bowling of Luis Reece, who finishes with figures of 3-54.

Dustin Melton, so often the pick of the bowlers for Derbyshire finished with 3-46.

So then, first job done for the visitors in claiming maximum bowling points. What can they do with the bat?

  4. Essex press on after Ten Doeschate injurypublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Ryan ten Doeschate went down with what appeared a lower back injury of which he only showed signs when scratching out his mark.

After a few minutes on field with the physio, he attempted some stretches but succumbed to what may have been a spasm rather than a strain given the way the injury revealed itself.

The early heavy cloud and spit of rain have cleared and it's now a solid start for Essex as the sun threatens to break through.

With a lead now in hand, the hosts will look to defy Middlesex for as long as possible as the swing and seam of yesterday morning would appear to have decreased.

Young left-arm spinner Thilan Wallalawita has just joined the attack and he didn't find as much turn as Simon Harmer did on day one, but will hope to come to the party today to build confidence ahead of a potential chase in the final innings when he will be crucial.

  5. From a 44-year-old veteran to a 16-year-old debutant...published at 11:21 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Surrey v Sussex 273-4

We've got both ends of the age range on show in this final group stage round it seems.

A line of note from The Oval is the first-class debut for 16-year-old Sussex batsman James Coles.

A proud moment for all concerned at his home county of Oxfordshire.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Morley c Hosein b Dal 3 (Lancashire 214-9 v Derbys)

Into the attack and an instant impact from Anuj Dal.

Jack Morley goes for three off 46 balls, caught behind by Derbyshire keeper Harvey Hosein.

Lancashire number 11 George Burrows is the last man in.

  7. wicket

Durham 294 all outpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Nottinghamshire have finally got the wicket of Ben Raine who falls for 31 thanks to a stunning catch at mid-off from Peter Trego.

Remember, Notts are chasing a first red-ball win in over two years. They've got a lot of batting ahead of them if they want to make that a reality.

  9. Postpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Lancashire 214-8 v Derbyshire

Tom Hartley (8) and Jack Morley (3) are digging in well for Lancashire and frustrating the Derbyshire bowlers.

The pair are successfully seeing off the second new ball.

Anuj Dal comes into the attack for Derbyshire.

  10. Essex into the leadpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Essex (140-5) lead Middlesex (138) by 2 runs

    WheaterImage source, Rex Features

Adam Wheater strikes a couple of boundaries off Tim Murtagh to push Essex into the lead at Chelmsford.

The wicketkeeper moves on to 45 off 60 balls with seven boundaries to his name.

  11. Currie strikes again for Hampshirepublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Kent (30-4) trail Hampshire (191) by 161 runs

    CurrieImage source, Rex Features

Scott Currie is having a dream first-class debut for Hampshire.

He's in the wickets again this morning to have Kent nightwatchman Matt Milnes caught and bowled.

Earlier, he got the big wicket of Zak Crawley with the first ball of the day for a duck.

Yesterday, he also showed his value with the bat with a potentially crucial 38 down the order.

Kent now 30-4 and struggling in reply to Hampshire's 191.

  12. Harmer strides out for Essexpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Essex (123-5) trail Middlesex (138) by 15 runs

So after Ryan ten Doeschate hobbles off for more treatment, Simon Harmer steps out in his place for Essex to join Adam Wheater (28 not out) at the other end.

Still very much in the balance this match as Essex look to edge into a lead, but it's the batting bonus points they're really after as they look to stretch their lead at the top of the South Group and boost chances of reaching the Lord's final.

We've been asking you for your favourite long-serving members of the county circuit in tribute to Darren Stevens' longevity for Kent.

Here's a couple to kick things off....

    Josh Burden: Daryl Mitchell

Injury break at Chelmsfordpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Essex (122-5) trail Middlesex (138) by 16 runs

    Tendo crockedImage source, Rex Features

Long break in play between Essex and Middlesex after Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate appears to strain his back while running between the wickets.

All of a sudden, the Netherlands international goes to ground at one end of the wicket in very visible discomfort before the Essex physio can get out there to give him some treatment.

Looked very innocuous, but seems to be a back spasm of some sort and he's heading off retired hurt on 31 not out.

He's been going well with Adam Wheater (27 not out) in a partnership worth 35 for the sixth wicket.

  15. Postpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Worcestershire 24-0 v Som 251

A big morning session at New Road too.

I have no idea how this pitch is going to play. At one stage yesterday, on 93-1, central group leaders Somerset looked well set, only for the visitors to stumble in the early afternoon session to 139-6.

Worcestershire's openers Jake Libby and Daryl Mitchell remain unscathed at the crease. Remember, if Worcestershire win this one, they'll leapfrog Somerset to the top of the Central Group.

  16. Buttler to miss final T20 after leaving bio-bubblepublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Some England news from this morning to bring you - Jos Buttler will be unavailable for the final T20 against Australia on Tuesday after being granted time at home with his family.

Meanwhile, Derbyshire limited Lancashire to just 206-8 off a full 90 overs in day one in Liverpool.

And with Yorkshire's match with Leicestershire delayed, Derbyshire could now take the ascendancy with two quick wickets in the morning session at Aigburth.

Rain stops play at Headingleypublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

Yorkshire (36-2) trail Leicestershire (124) by 88 runs

As mentioned before the start, there's been a fair bit of rain around in west Yorkshire this morning which has meant a delayed start at Headingley.

Yorkshire will hope to resume sooner rather than later after Ben Coad's 5-18 yesterday helped bowl Leicestershire out for just 124.

The White Rose sit second in the North Group and are bidding to overtake current leaders Derbyshire.

  19. Gloomy day once more by the banks of the Trentpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Nottinghamshire v Durham 277-8

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Trent Bridge

There's been a spot of rain about in Nottingham and it is a grey day at Trent Bridge but we have got started on time.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have the lights on at some point and it is a bit cooler than yesterday when Durham fought back from 68-4 at lunch to close the day on 275-8.

That was thanks to a 101-run stand for the fifth wicket from Gareth Harte and Stu Poynter, who made 72 and 50 respectively.

Last night the ninth wicket partnership from Brydon Carse and Ben Raine reached 48 runs when play ended with the new ball five overs old.

So with Ian Bell and Darren Stevens once again showing their class in their later years yesterday, it got me thinking about some of my favourite long-serving names of the county circuit from years gone by.

Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate is still turning in decent performances amid talk he may well hang up his boots this winter while Graham Onions is also on his farewell tour with Lancashire.

But who else from the county game still does the business in your opinion?
