Mendis has smacked it into the boot! This is going to be out caught.
England think Mendis has gloved another one as he sweeps and is caught behind.
Root is off the field and Jos Buttler calls for the review.

Ramesh Mendis has to take the lead. He's in the side as the all-rounder.
Lead by 115
Lakmal resists the big shot and wisely looks like he's going to show at least a bit of patience. He'll be wondering why the top order didn't do the same.

There's a big shot coming here...
Hmmm. I still don't think they bowled very well on day one. I think it was fair criticism.
Bess, much improved, rips one into Lakmal's pads. There's an appeal but it would have missed leg stump.

Jacob: Were we all maybe a touch harsh on our spinners? The pitch was dead on the first day. They aren't world class but they are no club bowlers either.
The lbw is a non-starter as the ball would have missed by a long way. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena made a good decision on the field there.
But they are indeed checking for lbw.
There's no bat on this...

It's come off the bicep.

The review is for the catch but they will have to check the lbw too.
Jos Buttler is certain Mendis has gloved this straight up in the air. Has he?
Debutant Ramesh Mendis is still there. He has a first-class triple hundred. He sweeps Leach hard for four.
Joe Root is over-attacking. He has himself at slip and Jonny Bairstow at gully. I reckon he has a feeling Sri Lanka are still going to have a swing.

The tempation to fling Mark Wood at the tail might get strong, but I suspect England will stick with the spinners.
Lead by 108
Lakmal has come out wearing a cap rather than a helmet. Can he bat as good as he looks? He gets off the mark when Bess drops too short.

This is looking like a team devoid of confidence. They just don't know how to go about their business. They're even middling them to the short-leg fielders. Sri Lanka will be in a world of pain now.
Sri Lanka lead by 107 with Suranga Lakmal at the crease.

He has middled that!
