I thought this was going to be a day-five thriller, but it is going to be a day-four thriller.

If Sri Lanka can get Joe Root now it is going to be key and vital to their hopes, and for England's hopes if Joe Root gets in. Dom Sibley has got over that tough first 30 balls - his defensive shots looks more calm and controlled. He looks more at ease in these conditions.

Test cricket is amazing. Joe Root was batting under pressure all day yesterday, and only four hours of play later, he's back in again under pressure looking to score runs. It is the unrelenting nature of Test cricket.

    Target 164

An appeal for lbw against Dom Sibley doesn't have much going for it and it's swiftly waved away by the umpire, before he and Joe Root exchange a couple of singles.

Sri Lanka really needed that breakthrough to keep their chances alive, because Jonny Bairstow was playing really well.

This is a really big half an hour. If they can get Joe Root early that exposes the lower order.

    Umpire's call!

Alastair Cook's gut is rarely wrong. It was as though Jonny Bairstow went too deep for that delivery, trying to work the ball off his pads but he didn't get his bat down in time. The technology reckons that would go on to clip the bails, and Bairstow's handy cameo is over.

My gut is that this is out.

It's hit Jonny Bairstow on the back pad then rebounded onto the bat...

    Jonny Bairstow is out, lbw!

He's reviewed it straight away but, I'll be honest, this looks gone...

  14. Eng 62-2published at 14.3 overs

That's the first bit of trouble for Jonny Bairstow as he tries to sweep a delivery from Lasith Embuldeniya that goes straight on, and the ball scuttles underneath the bat and into Niroshan Dickwella's gloves.

Sri Lanka need to get Jonny Bairstow out quickly if they are going to stand a chance.

If the target gets below 60-70 with him in, the game could end quickly. He has started brilliantly.

Sibley hasn't moved a muscle. Did Dickwella just want credit for whipping off the bails?

We're now looking at a stumping chance when I'm fairly sure Dom Sibley's back leg hasn't moved an inch...

England really are racing along at the moment.

  19. Eng 62-1published at 13.5 overs

Dilruwan Perera enters the attack and his second delivery is promptly reverse-walloped to the fence by Jonny Bairstow. It is some shot, that. Perera, incidentally, has taken just one wicket in four innings so far. Lasith Embuldeniya has done an awful lot of heavy lifting for Sri Lanka, and he's barely had any rest.

Dom Sibley tries a sweep of his own, misses, but manages to pad it very fine for four.
