To clear something up, Kohli didn't 'review' his dismissal. The replays were requested by the on-field umpires, like they might for a run out or a stumping. A few people have asked about the crowd and Covid measures. For example, what happens if one of the crowd touches the ball? I don't know for sure, but suspect it would have to be sanitised, like it was in the home summer if a non-player ended up touching it.

Our club was taking part in the Cricket on Ice tournament in St Moritz. We played a Swiss boarding school full of very earnest 16 year olds. One of their chaps was caught behind, but despite the appeals from our side, not given out. He turned to our keeper and said 'no, it didn't hit my bat. It was off my glove'. I don't think the Swiss have the best grasp of the laws of cricket.

Jack Leach has changed ends and continues to ask questions. Rohit tries to dance, fortunate not to inside-edge on to his own stumps. Meanwhile, Rahane is looking more and more assured, using the tiniest amount of width to cut for four with rapid hands.

I've just seen a camera shot of the pitch. It looks horrible. It looks like loads of bits of soil just thrown together.

Now we're talking. These are the tales I'm after. Not kidnapping or false imprisonment, obvs, but times you might have refused to walk from an establishment.

In other news, my son is using his cricket bat as a reason not to have his nappy changed.

England have placed fielders either side of the cut strip, like sentries, at short mid-on and short mid-off. One of them is captain Root himself, having a good chat with non-striker Ajinkya Rahane. I think Root is asking why he didn't get a signed shirt for his 100th Test. Nathan Lyon has his framed in his front room. Or so I've heard.

I was worried once England lost the toss on this beach. The most alarming element is the ball is exploding outside off stump and there are no foot holes out there. I would suggest that has been prepared for Ravichandran Ashwin.

One of the stands, at long leg as Moeen bowls to Rahane, is populated by a load of white plastic chairs. You know the type, mid-90s garden furniture. If Rohit hits one of them, they might all topple over. I'll be honest, there isn't much sign of a wicket falling.

Ruth Brooksbank: Respect to Rohit Sharma for getting a ton on that dust-bowl of a pitch.

The Roller in Verwood: On this minefield, Rohit has won India the game.

All of Rohit's seven tons have come at home. He only averages 26 away. Not that it's an issue at the moment, because he's very much at home and England need him out on a pitch that looks likely to resemble a broken biscuit by Monday. Glorious in Chennai. Sunshine, stands rising into the sky. Spectators. Remember them?

What a knock that is. On a tricky pitch, with wickets falling around him, Rohit Sharma has made a quite brilliant century. His seventh in Test cricket, reached with a paddled sweep for a couple. Remarkable when you think there are only 147 runs on the board. Even at this stage, you wonder if it's match-defining.

In our early teens we were playing on usual game of cricket on the pitch at our local youth centre that is sited by a main road. My brother was bowling all sorts of illegal stuff to try and get me out. Friends playing were pretty fed as I seem to remember being on 360 not. Our game and my innings were cut short as my next boundary rattled up the stairs of the No 48 bus that had just opened and then closed its double doors before driving off with our cricket ball! Game suspended!

Rohit knows there's a ball out there with his name on it. If he hangs around, he's going to get one.
