As an aside to the mention of Dennis Compton and his love of bowls, WG Grace was a founder member of the English Bowling Association I believe.
Bill Rodham Knaresborough
Rahane is rattling along like a train bound for Ahmedabad now. He pulls Stone for his third boundary in a matter of minutes.
Stone is finding a bit of reverse swing. Two appeals end the over. Both are optimistic.

Any loose ball that has come along, they've hit for four, Rohit especially. He just doesn't seem to hit it to fielders.
Rahane rocks back now, cutting for four more. That's such good batting. Moeen didn't do a lot wrong.
There's an almighty cheer from the crowd. Hooters, the lot. Kohli applauds from the dressing room.
Lovely from Rahane who skips down to Moeen and drives through the covers. Four runs.

You can't see this game surprising us. Everyone is agreed that this is going to be a quick game.
Rohit 134, Rahane 37
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's day one.
Joe Root chomps on some sort of energy gel in the dressing room, squeezing ever last bit out like you do with the toothpaste tube. He was his value for money. It looks like Root is coming back on now.

England were right to turn that one down. It hit Rohit outside off stump. It's very difficult for a off-spinner to get an lbw on this pitch when it's turning so much.
Stone to Rahane now. A bouncer. Rahane looks uncomfortable and skews the ball into the leg side off an edge.

This really is a big session. Pant is due in next and you think about potentially what he could do.
It probably will be a low scoring game but you've already got a fella who has got a 100 and there's still danger to come.
There's big, big turn for Moeen first up. The ball pitches outside off and would have comfortably missed leg. "Lovely, Mo!" shouts the energetic Ben Foakes.
There's another appeal at the end of the over. More interest in the review this time. Ben Stokes looks to be the man calling the shots and decides against it.
It's going to be Moeen Ali to start from the other end.
Rohit 132, Rahane 36
Ajinkya Rahane has always impressed me, although there were whispers around his place in the side before his Test. I doubt he was in any danger of being dropped.
The India vice-captain blocks out a maiden from Stone.

The odd one is turning, the odd one is skidding on. I think both the spinners have bowled pretty well.
But this session is extremely important for England. If these two batsmen are still there by the end of play then India can run away with it.
Anyway, the impressive Olly Stone will begin the evening session.
I told you earlier I had a Denis Compton story for you so here goes.
I was chatting to my grandad yesterday and he casually dropped into the conversation that the England legend once turned up to support the opposition (Middlesex) in a game of bowls he was playing.
Compton was rowdy in his support, apparently. I have no reason to doubt this story but if anyone else can corroborate Denis Compton's love of bowls I'm all ears.

That Kohli wicket feels like a long time ago now. In fairness, it was dark in the UK when he fell.
Heard the one about the India captain who was bowled and refused to walk?
This is worth a read if you're an England fan. Less so if your name is Virat Kohli.
