Ashwin c Pope b Root 13 (Ind 284-6)
Another wicket for England! This has been a remarkably action-packed period of play.
Ashwin inside edges a regulation catch to short leg via the pad. Ollie Pope is positioned there and seems to not realise there was an edge. He throws the ball straight back at the stumps with Ashwin out of his ground but the catch is deemed to have been taken,

That's where the DRS works so well. He was given out on the field but he got nowhere near it.
Pant has missed that by a couple of inches. He knew straight away. The cheers tell you he has survived to keep on swinging.
The ball has flicked his pocket. We need to see if it hit bat first.
But is Pant out this time? He is given caught behind but reviews immediately.
Sensational batting from Rishabh Pant who reverse sweeps another grenade off his stumps and over back ward point to the fence.
He drills this next ball from Moeen hard down the ground for another boundary.

I think this is a match-winning first innings score on this kind of wicket. It's doing all sorts.
I reckon it's the kind of pitch where the team who loses the toss should be allowed three innings, and you're still not favourites to win.

Ni Gel La: Credit to the match officials for recognising their mistake and giving England the review back. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Rahane was still batting though.
Pant and Ashwin continue to live on the edge with the latter gloving a sweep over leg slip. Given the pitch, this will be India's day regardless but England will be boosted if they take a couple more wickets before the close. Root still hasn't taken that new ball.
Root is bringing himself on, perhaps sparing us from the Pant v Leach sequel. It may have been more Jaws: The Revenge than Empire Strikes Back anyway.

I'd take the new ball but with the spinners. This pitch is exploding, huge puffs of dust. It's like a day four wicket.
When there's so much turn it's inexcusable for a spinner to be bowling full tosses. Ashwin is able to lurch forward and he plonks Moeen into a big gap on the off side with very little danger. Four runs.
The new ball is new available. What does Root do now?

Grant Kennett: England get their review back to the delight of everyone - except Jack Leach...

In this world of all the technology, I don't understand how he's not rolled the tape on a little bit longer. Or how nobody has told him to.
It's inexcusable in this era of professional sport.
Pant must be itching to have another swing but resists for now.
It has been confirmed England have had their review reinstated for that Rahane non-dismissal. They made an appeal to the match referee.

Joe Root has a decision to make shortly. With the two spinners and the new ball available in a couple of overs, do you take it? Those two wickets were absolutely crucial for England. If they can just squeeze one more wicket out there.
Anyone ready for a sequel? It's Pant v Leach II.
The left-hander strikes first with a big blow over the leg side.
Pant 5, Ashwin 4
There are two overs to go until the new ball becomes available.
