Wins by Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire have strengthened their positions with just one round of games to come in the Championship's initial phase.

Harry Brook hit 113 and Dom Bess had match figures of 9-102 as Yorkshire beat Northants, while Notts bowled out Derbyshire for under 150 for the second time in the game to win by an innings at Trent Bridge.

Today was disrupted by 11 players being pulled out of Championship games to join a new England one-day squad made necessary by Covid, but elsewhere Lancashire and Hampshire put themselves in strong positions to force wins despite weather-shortened days.

We'll be back again tomorrow at 10:40ish for more live coverage.

Rory Burns made one and Mark Stoneman nought in Surrey's first innings - this time their scores are reversed as the visitors lose both openers before the close of play at the Ageas Bowl.

Burns is caught at gully from one which flies off a length and Surrey will begin the final day 410 runs behind and facing a heavy defeat, which could prove costly to their hopes of contesting this summer's title.

Wood made 119 against Kent at Canterbury earlier in the season.

  8. 50 runs

for Ali Orrpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Sussex 226 & 95-4 v Glam 215

Results haven't gone Sussex's way this season but they've certainly found out about a few of their youngsters.

Ali Orr, a left-hander from Eastbourne, made a second-innings 67 on debut at Headingley last month.

And he adds a second fifty here in 105 balls.

Nothing better than watching young players making their way in the game.

Stoneman pushes forward, the ball beats the inside edge and the umpire has no doubts - he is gone.

Gloucestershire are making hay in the breezy Cheltenham sunshine.

Still 14 overs to go and The Shire could be out of sight by the close.

    Somerset 461-9d v Leics 390-7

That's it for the day at Taunton and Leicestershire will be delighted.

Harry Swindells with just his second first-class hundred and a fine fifty from Ed Barnes should secure a draw tomorrow.

  15. wicket

WICKET Virdi run out 0published at 18:00 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72

The follow-on decision will be a formality.

Surrey added 30 in 12.2 overs for the loss of their last six wickets.

  16. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Sussex 226 & 62-3 v Glam 215

Sussex have thrown in some young players this season and they currently have 19-year-old Oli Carter on debut batting with 20-year-old Ali Orr.

The pair are trying to build their side's lead and a smart little stand is taking them away from danger.

Lots to do though and Glamorgan will still very much fancy their chances.

  17. wicket

Rikki Clarke aims an airy drive at a ball from Brad Wheal and his stumps are shattered - his innings lasted just two deliveries.

Number 11 Amar Virdi is at the crease with injured Kyle Jamieson. They have at least bettered their worst score against Hampshire - 64 all out at Basingstoke in 1986.

  18. 50 runs

  19. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    Warwickshire 237 v Durham 173-5

So no play possible after tea and that surely means that barring something remarkable this game will end in a draw.

Durham added 153 in the 55 overs possible for the loss of four wickets, three of them taken by Craig Miles, who has figures of 4-42.

David Bedingham is 37 not out, having passed 800 Championship runs for the season.
