Holland lbw Fletcher 3 (Hampshire 15-2 v Notts)

Luke Fletcher takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Ian Holland was a little late on that one - and he's gone.

Championship wicket number 60 for Luke Fletcher.

Look up the word 'dependable' in the dictionary and you'll see cartoon versions of Fletcher, Chris Rushworth and Tim Murtagh fighting it out to be the chosen illustration.

    Somerset v Lancashire 52-2

Looks like Ned Leonard is tiring a little after five overs as Luke Wells (18) hits three boundaries on the trot.

Still, it's great opening spell from the youngster taking the key wicket of dangerman George Balderson.

The 50 also comes up for Lancashire.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Weatherley c Duckett b Hutton 11 (Hampshire 15-1 v Notts)

Did that 'do just enough' off the pitch, or did Joe Weatherley play slightly down the wrong line?

Either way, it's a comfortable catch for Ben Duckett at second slip and Brett Hutton has the breakthrough for Division One leaders Notts.

  4. Postpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 13-0 v Nottinghamshire

It's still tense stuff at the Ageas Bowl. Luke Fletcher and Brett Hutton are maintaining a probing line and offering up very few scoring opportunities for the Hampshire openers in the first eight overs. Ian Holland is now off the mark with a single from the 18th ball he faced.

  5. Postpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Yorkshire v Warwickshire 28-3

No hat-trick for Ben Coad this time.

Matthew Lamb strikes him for four.

Brilliant over though, Yorkshire very much on top.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hain c Bess b Coad 0 (Yorkshire v Warwickshire 24-3)

    On a hat-trick!

Sam Hain goes for a golden duck next ball, edging one off the shoulder of his bat straight to Dom Bess at backward-point.

  7. wicket

    Rhodes c Duke b Coad 13 (Yorkshire v Warwickshire 24-2)

Both openers gone for Warwickshire as Will Rhodes clips one off Yorkshire's Ben Coad to keeper Harry Duke.

And things are about to get worse for the Bears...

    Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

It seems a little odd that Surrey are playing Essex at the Oval and it isn't a Division One game. The visitors are 18-0 with Sir Alastair Cook - who only has one Championship century from 13 games in 2021 - nine not out.

Glamorgan are 10-0 after being put in by Gloucestershire, who are without James Bracey after he suffered a concussion in training.

Meanwhile, Northants are now 20-1 against Durham following the earlier loss of Ricardo Vasconcelos.

In Division Three, Kent are resting Darren Stevens, Joe Denly and Matt Milnes ahead of T20 Blast Finals Day and are 17-1 after five against Derbyshire, with Jordan Cox bowled by Ben Aitchison for 10.

Middlesex are 27-0 in the seventh over against Worcestershire, with Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman together again after last week's record stand against Sussex.

Meanwhile, Sussex are 26-0 against Leicestershire, with Tom Haines on 10 after reaching 1,000 runs for the season on Monday.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Davies c Davies b Brooks 3 (Somerset v Lancashire 27-2)

    One brings two.

What a delivery this is from Jack Brooks, an out-swinger on the perfect line getting Alex Davies playing at one he should leave.

The opener tickles the ball to the keeper and Somerset's decision to bowl first is looking a very wise one.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Balderson c Lammonby b Leonard 22 (Somerset v Lancashire 27-1)

The debutant has his first wicket!

George Balderson had looked in great touch with three beautiful drives so far.

But he tries one attacking shot too many and carves the ball straight to gully.

This is a moment Ned Leonard won't forget in a hurry. The teenage paceman has found the breakthrough.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Sibley lbw b Fisher 11 (Yorkshire v Warwickshire 24-1)

    Matthew Fisher has his man.

Dom Sibley is given a life on six, dropped in the slips.

A boundary later and Fisher pins the England opener with an devious in-swinger.

    Good start this.

  12. Postpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 5-0 v Nottinghamshire

Apart from that early Joe Weatherley boundary, it's been pretty tight from the Notts bowlers in the opening four overs at the Ageas Bowl. Joe Weatherley is four not out, but Ian Holland has yet to open his account.

  13. Rushworth strikes firstpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Chris RushworthImage source, Rex Features

The first wicket of the day has fallen - and it's fallen at Wantage Road.

Absolutely no surprise that Durham's Chris Rushworth is the successful bowler as Ricardo Vasconcelos nicks behind.

Northants are 10-1 in Division Two.

  14. Could we get another tie?published at 10:45 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Somerset v Lancashire 13-0

The last time these two counties met in a red-ball game at Taunton by the way was in September 2018. That match ended in a tie!

The hosts were 37-6 chasing 78 to win, and were eight wickets down with the scores level before Dom Bess was stumped off Keshav Maharaj's bowling.

Maharaj (7-37) then had last man Jack Leach, caught at deep mid-wicket to complete a thrilling climax.

  15. Postpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Yorkshire v Warwickshire 12-0

And it's a good start for Warwickshire after being put into bat by Yorkshire.

Openers Will Rhodes and Dom Sibley both strike boundaries for the Bears in the first two overs.

  16. Postpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 4-0 v Nottinghamshire

Luke Fletcher has the ball in hand at the Ageas Bowl after Hampshire chose to bat first.

There are four slips in place but his second delivery is on leg stump and Joe Weatherley clips it away for an easy boundary.

It's not been a great red-ball season thus far for Wearherley so that's a nice way to start.

  17. Postpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Somerset v Lancashire 0-0

And we're off! No Craig Overton for Somerset who misses out with a slight rib injury, while Jack Leach is unavailable due to Covid-19 protocols.

So Somerset hand a debut to 19-year-old all-rounder Ned Leonard.

The pitch is green at Taunton so no surprises to see the hosts bowl first after winning the toss.

  19. How things stand in the title racepublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

There are just two rounds of matches remaining in this summer's County Championship, and remember, only the six teams in Division One can win the title because of the competition format for 2021.

    Here is how things stand:

    • Nottinghamshire 49 points
    • Hampshire 38.5
    • Yorkshire 38.5
    • Warwickshire 36
    • Lancashire 31.5
    • Somerset 23.5

Defeat for Somerset in their home game against Lancashire would almost certainly mean their hopes of a first title are over for another year, and even a draw might put them out of contention, depending on results elsewhere.
