  1. Another over gonepublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 315-7 (104 overs)

No luck for Danny Briggs so far. Six overs to go.

The tireless Chris Woakes to bowl the first of them. His 27th!!!

  2. Penny for your thoughts Alexpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 & 17-0 v Hampshire 143 & 193

Alex Davies has shown positive intent in this chase as he gets to 15, but he has a big let-off as Brad Wheal puts him down at mid-on. That was a good chance.

Davies is leaving Lancashire at the end of the season to join Warwickshire. Who would he want to win the title? Interesting... Let's just say - definitely not Hampshire!

  3. Phew!!!published at 12:18 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 314-7 (103 overs)

What an over. Lewis Gregory sneaks a single to move to 61, then Chris Woakes passes Jack Leach's bat three balls in a row, before rapping him high on the pads.

The Bears to spin as Danny Briggs comes on.

After his batting heroics yesterday, why not?

  4. No joy for Norwell eitherpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 313-7 (102 overs)

Jack Leach's straight bat sees out a Liam Norwell maiden.

    Eight overs left . . .

Woakes to bowl the next one, to Gregory, who starts it with a single.

  5. No luck for Woakespublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 313-7 (101 overs)

Lewis Gregory has some luck as an attempted leg side heave flies over the slips for four and Chris Woakes then beats him all ends up next ball.

    Nine overs to go . . .

  6. Back on in Liverpoolpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 & 12-0 v Hampshire 143 & 193

We are back on at Aigburth where the light has improved sufficiently!

Alex Davies has shown positive intent as he hits successive fours off Keith Barker to get the innings up and running.

  7. No lights in Liverpoolpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 & 0-0 v Hampshire 143 & 193

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James has made an interesting point about how the bad light does Hampshire no favours.

With no floodlights and trees and the historic red brick Victorian pavilion surrounding the field at Aigburth, it is not the easiest seeing ground. So the light will have to improve a good deal to get the players back on the field.

Of course at Old Trafford, the floodlights would have come on and play would have carried on. But we're at Aigburth because Old Trafford is all set for two gigs by the Courteeners tomorrow and Saturday. (I can vouch for this because I walked past the ground this morning!)

  8. 100 overs gone in Brumpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 308-7 (100 overs)

Still 10 overs left for the Bears to take those two last scalps they need for full bowling points.

It took until the 110th over before Danny Briggs secured their crucial fourth batting point yesterday. Are we in for the same sort of drama?

Chris Woakes is handed the ball again.

  9. Yorkshire leadpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 296 v Yorkshire 73 & 230-4

Luke Fletcher is thrown the new ball as Nottinghamshire look to make inroads in the Yorkshire batting.

Things usually happen when Fletcher has the ball but not like this as Harry Brook crashes four fours in six balls.

Suddenly Yorkshire now lead by seven and they can try to build up a total that Notts may struggle to chase.

  10. Norwell back on for Bearspublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 300-7 (98 overs)

Liam Norwell comes back on - and a legside glide for four from Lewis Gregory brings the 300 up.

12 overs left before the cut-off. Two more wickets for full bowling points. Or three wickets to bowl Somerset out.

The Bears lead is now only 67 too.

  11. 50 runs

Half-century for Lewis Gregorypublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 291-7 (96.1 overs)

    A 14th half-century in first-class cricket for Somerset's limited-overs skipper Lewis Gregory.

The England T20 and one-day international got there in 108 balls, with nine fours and a six.

Quicker than Dom Sibley's on the first day (132 balls), but still an unusually restrained, and commendably responsible effort from Gregory.

  12. 100 runs

100 for Adam Lythpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 296 v Yorkshire 73 & 204-4

A push through the covers for two and there it is as Adam Lyth brings up a valuable hundred for himself and his team.

Lyth scored centuries in the first two games of the season and a 50 in the third, all in April, but the runs had dried up since.

So the 33-year-old knows the importance of this one as he brings Yorkshire close to parity on the scorecard.

The landmark came off 230 balls and included 13 fours.

  13. 15 overs left for Bearspublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 282-7

    95 overs done now.

Still playing in Birmingham - and Lewis Gregory and Jack Leach are still defying Warwickshire.

  14. Bad light stops playpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 & 0-0 v Hampshire 143 & 193

    And here we go off!!

Would you believe it, at 11.45am, the players have gone off the field at Aigburth for bad light.

Keith Barker bowled four dot balls to George Balderson at which point umpires Alex Wharf and Peter Hartley came together, reviewed the light and so play has been stopped.

It does look very murky in Liverpool, although how much it has changed from when Hampshire were batting is a good question.

  15. Here we gopublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 v Hampshire 143 & 193

Keith Barker has the new cherry in his hand. Alex Davies is facing. Which way will this match go?

  16. wicket

    Lancashire 141 v Hampshire 143 & 193 all out

    BaldersonImage source, Getty Images

The Hampshire second innings is over as last man Mohammad Abbas edges behind and after juggling it at the first attempt, wicketkeeper Alex Davies takes the catch.

That was a second wicket for George Balderson but Tom Bailey rightfully leads his team off the field after career-best figures of 7-37 have taken him to 50 first-class wickets for the season.

The visitors have added 35 valuable runs this morning for their last three wickets, but now the match is set up for a grandstand finish.

Lancashire need to score 196 runs. Hampshire need ten wickets.

  17. Four for Leachpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 277-7

No one not out for Jack Leach today. He's off the mark with a boundary!

  18. wicket

Overton lbw Bresnan 2published at 11:22 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 271-7 (90 overs)

Last ball of the 90th over - and Warwickshire break through again.

Craig Overton is leg before wicket to Tim Bresnan - a third wicket for Brezzy Lad - and his second of the morning.

Overton did not look overly happy. Not sure whether that was the shot, the decision or the circumstances.

Whatever, it leaves the Bears needing two more wickets in 19 overs to claim maximum bowling points - and keep that outcome of the title race in their own hands.

Craig Miles is now into the attack.

New Somerset batter is Jack Leach. Now, as a keeper-upper of an end, he has a bit of history!

What would Hampshire in particular give now for a repeat of Leach's famous 'one not out' at the Headingley Ashes test in 2019?!!!

  19. drinks break

Drinks break?published at 11:19 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Warwickshire 367, Somerset 267-6 (89 overs)

Not sure if it was drinks, or a sanitation break, but there were definitely men in bibs on carrying things.

21 overs to go before the cut-off. And Tim Bresnan comes back on.

Despite a fair bit of playing and missing, he is the only Bears bowler to have broken through so far.

An audible groan as an edge from Craig Overton flies down to fine leg.

  20. wicket

WICKET Barker c Davies b Bailey 4published at 11:17 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Lancashire 141 v Hampshire 143 & 186-9

Keith Barker gets off the mark with an outside edge to the boundary, but when Tom Bailey gets one to lift a fraction from a good length, he can only nick it to Alex Davies.

This is fantastic bowling from Bailey to keep Lancashire in with a sniff as it's now 7-31 for the big paceman.

    The lead is 188.
