PitchedOutsideLeg: That was just slip catching practice from Zak Crawley. The lad's in a proper pickle at the moment.

Kevin Ticehurst: Zak Crawley should be nowhere near this England side. Just not good enough at this level whatsoever. Back to the drawing board once again, before it is to late.

    Michael: Woeful stuff from Crawley.

So, the ball before saw Crawley try and leave, but the in-swing made him attempt to jab his bat down at the last minute. There was no foot movement then either.

England skipper Joe Root is the new batsman.

It was good bowling in that he teed him up with the inswinger and then the outswinger that got him. Although it did only take two balls...

After a barren first session, New Zealand have two wickets in two overs.

He was spooked by that ball before.

    Crawley c Mitchell b Wagner 0 (Eng 73-2)

Another quite simply awful dismissal for Zak Crawley.

This is almost a carbon copy of his dismissal at Lord's. There's minimal foot movement from the Kent batsman, just a half prod of his front foot, and a big waft of the bat outside off stump and a thick edge is well caught by Daryl Mitchell at third slip.

    Move your feet, Zak!

It's going to be left-armer Neil Wagner from the other end.

That was England's longest opening stand in the first innings of a home Test since Cook and Lyth added 177 in 59 overs at Headingley in 2015.

Indeed, Zak Crawley is under a little bit of pressure.

Before today, Zak Crawley had played 13 Tests, scoring 687 runs. 39% of those runs came in one innings. Without that innings, Crawley averages bang on 20.

    Ouch. Crawley needs an innings.

Zak Crawley really needs some runs here and needs to show a bit of maturity.

That was a tentative little poke but it was a sizeable edge. It's a good ball in the channel, but strictly speaking he didn't need to play at it.

    Sibley c Blundell b Henry 35 (Eng 72-1)

    Lovely bowling from Matt Henry.

After finding a little bit of shape back in to rap a leaving Dom Sibley on his bottom hand, Henry has got Sibley caught behind.

It's back of a length and Sibley can't help but have a little fiddle on fifth or sixth stump line.

Big breakthrough for New Zealand in the first over after lunch.

  12. Eng 68-0published at 29.1 overs

Matt Henry, who went for just 12 from seven overs this morning, gets us going after lunch and Rory Burns tucks him off his hip for a single first up.

The players are making their way back out to the middle.

As good a job as the broadcasters have done with fake crowd noise the sound of Edgbaston singing "Engerrrrlandddd, Engerrrrlandddd, Engerrrrlandddd" is just fantastic.

Let's hope this Test is just the start of getting big crowds back at the cricket this summer.

The one time I met Jimmy was at my mate Oli's wedding. He was the last man into the church ahead of the bride, and I was the usher on the door handing out orders of service. As he approached I mumbled something about 'you're my hero'.This was over 12 years ago, so not quite the hero he is now. I like to think I inspired him.... he didn't look impressed when he discovered he was sat next to his biggest fan for the wedding breakfast...

England getting through the morning session without losing a wicket is pretty exciting.

But I'm going to be honest, the fact we got through 29 overs is even more exciting. We might actually be done for 18:00 or just after for a change tonight.

What would represent a good day for England here?

The morning session has gone pretty much to perfection - they now just need to use this platform to build a huge first-innings total.

Joe Root won't want to see his side more than two or three down at close tonight, I wouldn't have thought.

I have a terrible memory, so I must admit I don't have a particular memory of Jimmy to bring you.

Although, live texting his fantastic double-wicket over in Chennai earlier in the year was a very special moment.

If you can't remember that day you can read out it here.
