Polishing off the tail has been tough in this game so there's no guarantee England will get this wrapped up quickly in the morning on day three.

Anyway, that's your lot for today pretty much.

"On a pitch showing signs of uneven bounce against the harder ball, both sides will still believe they can win what is likely to be a low-scoring game," is the verdict of my colleague Matthew Henry. You can read his report here...

And finally, the TMS podcast with all the reaction, talking points and much more from today you can download and listen to it a little while here...

I think Chris Woakes will be happy with how he bowled, his start to the match, because there is work to be done tomorrow.

"He will want to end the tour well, bowl well again in the second innings and head back with confidence for the home summer.

  3. Postpublished at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2022

A bit more from Chris Woakes, who added: "I hope there is an English batter who can stand up and make that key score tomorrow. Joshua da Silva showed today you can can cash in when the bowlers tire.

"It has been a tough series with back-to-back Test matches and time in the field but you have to put that to one side and be on the money. As a team we try to have a session-by-session mentality. We need to turn up tomorrow and win that first hour."

I think Saqib Mahmood has got the speed and the skill to lead this attack for years to come. Hopefully we see a bit of that tomorrow.

I had Saqib Mahmood as the pick of the bowlers throughout the day, he offered something a bit different.

  7. Postpublished at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2022

Chris Woakes, speaking to BT Sport after the close of play, said: "It's certainly a bit more of an interesting game than the first two Tests. We are pretty pleased with the bowling effort today. Overall we'd have taken that. The ball didn't offer as much as yesterday. When we bowled more consistently today it was tougher to bat.

"As a bowling attack we have to do the basics and get the ball in the right areas and getting the batters playing defensively forward to it. We have to keep doing that time and time again.

"It hasn't been my greatest tour. The two previous surfaces were not great. I'd like to have done better but it's not through a lack of effort. However, I feel I hit my straps today."

England's main job for tomorrow will be to get batting as quickly as possible, and let their batsmen see off the new ball as they begin the task of setting a challenging total.

England's seamers continued to run in hard - of course Broad and Anderson have been missed in these conditions, but Woakes has taken three, Stokes a couple, Mahmood is continuing to impress and Overton is causing some discomfort with his short-pitched attack.

Jack: How many more times are we going to waste the new ball with Chris Woakes and Craig Overton in this series?

Joshua da Silva with a quick interview to the host broadcaster said: "It's a great knock for me. I haven't got one at home and it's very much needed.

"Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach played a really big part. Both of them can bat. We are going to try to get as many runs and build that lead. The pitch has flattened out a lot. Hopefully we can push the lead on far as we can tomorrow."

This has the makings of a terrific Test match, with runs at a premium on a pitch that makes batting awkward against the new ball. Uneven bounce is increasingly accounting for wickets and this will be a serious factor when the West Indies bat last.

This time the umpires take the players off for bad light and that's stumps.

England drag their weary bodies off the ground. Kemar Roach lets Joshua da Silva go ahead of him, generously applauding him.

West Indies have a lead of 28 runs.

    Da Silva 54, Roach 25

Craig Overton with a bit of swing after beating the edge of Kemar Roach's bat with his third delivery.

He gets bat on Overton's fourth ball and it whistles away through the vacant third man position and four more are added to West Indies' total.

More light meter assessments from the two umpires.

Chris Woakes looks like he needs and arm round the shoulder after another maiden over which saps him of his energy.

Joshua da Silva is grumbling to the umpires about the light again. Another check with the light meters but Craig Overton will continue.

England looking ragged, much as West Indies did at the same stage yesterday, as Craig Oveton's third ball disappears to the boundary after Kemar Roach edges one past the England captain in the slips for four.

Another check of the light meter. England would happily get off and put their feet up after a long day in the firt.
