Shane Warne was loved by everyone. He would've liked that England have bowled a good length this morning. It used to wind him up when England bowled too short and didn't have enough slips in place.

All of the players have lined up in the middle to applaud. Mark Taylor, Warne's former team-mate, is here too.

A special moment and so very sad.

And that is 23 overs done which means Lord's is pausing for a moments applause for Shane Warne.

23 was, of course, the Australia legend's shirt number.

  4. NZ 37-6published at 23 overs

Kyle Jamieson, New Zealand's towering all-rounder, has come out looking to play some shots.

Six slips. What a field on the first morning of a Test.

  6. NZ 37-6published at 22.3 overs

England have SIX slips as James Anderson runs in again. Can they nip another one out before lunch?

  7. NZ 36-6published at 22 overs

Matthew Potts ends the over with five slips in front of the pavilion at Lord's. He's going full Scott Boland here.

He has 3-6 in seven overs.

There are people on their feet applauding him back to his fielding position.

You can't believe it, can you? From where this Test team has been for the last year or so.

It is a great morning to be a captain. You just rotate your bowlers and play the cordon. Ben Stokes had six fielders in the cordon at times.

England needed to win this first session with all the changes and it was probably a good toss to lose.

If England had batted and been reduced to 30-3 we would have said 'here we go again, nothing has changed'.

    Blundell b Potts 14 (NZ 36-6)

Bowled with a beauty! Matthew Potts' day gets better and better.

He fires one down towards the top of off stump and Tom Blundell, who had looked decent until now, seems unsure whether to play or leave. The ball nips between bat and pad and sends the bails flying.

England must be wondering whether they're dreaming.

  10. Parkinson called up to replace Leachpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 2 June 2022
    Breaking

    It's official.

Matt Parkinson has been called up as Jack Leach's concussion sub.

He will get himself down to London later today.

  11. NZ 36-5published at 21 overs

    Blundell 14, De Grandhomme 0

Potts has been very good and I'm a fan but I think you're being a little harsh on Saqib Mahmood there, Tattz.

James Anderson is back and cuts one off the pitch like he's bowling on some wonky paving stones. Big Colin de Grandhomme is nearly sliced in half.

Tattz: Potts looks a much better option than almost everyone else we’ve tried recently. Bowling a great line, really hits the pitch and gets through batsmen.

  13. NZ 36-5published at 20 overs

Just joining us? It's all going to plan on the field for England but Jack Leach has been ruled out of the Test with concussion. No word yet on a concussion sub but it does have to be another spinner.

    This was the incident...

That last wicket of Daryl Mitchell is everything I have been told about Matty Potts.

He just makes things happen and hits the bat harder than expected.

  15. Not outpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

Not this time for Matthew Potts. Michael Gough, another one from the north east, has to change his decision.

It's straight but I think there's an inside edge.

  19. New Zealand reviewpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

Is this three for Matthew Potts?!

Tom Blundell is giving out lbw but reviews straight away...

  20. NZ 36-5published at 19 overs

Ah that's more like the New Zealand we expected to see. Tom Blundell drives Broad smartly back down the ground. Four runs and probably the best shot of the day.

Nine runs come in the over, another boundary coming off the inside edge. Stu will not be impressed.
