It was a lovely outswinger from Anderson and Bairstow has taken that at full stretch inches off the ground to his left.
Absolutely brilliant catch.

Young c Bairstow b Anderson 1 (NZ 1-1)
Jonny Bairstow has taken a worldie at slip! My word. If this is the new England then I like it a lot.
It's in the right area from James Anderson but this one is all about the catch.
The ball zips low off the outside edge and Bairstow doesn't really move, instead sticking out a left hand to cling on inches above the turf. Brilliant, brilliant catch.

Four slips and a gully in the first over of Ben Stokes' reign as England captain. Stokes not one of them, partly because of his finger problems. When he spoke to the press yesterday he said he would be in his "armchair" at mid-off.
New Zealand and the previously mentioned Will Young are off the mark.
Stuart Broad, bandana on, has his strut going. He applauds as Ollie Pope leaps in the gully to deny Tom Latham his first runs.
Broad follows that by repeating the feat of his old mate, beating Latham's outside edge.
They're good, you know.

Every ball asking a question. Every ball a challenge.
It's a classic start from Jimmy Anderson.

Greg Double: Would love to see Will Young bowled through the Gates.
Latham 0, Young 0
It's a maiden to start from Jimmy Anderson. Lots of things change. Some things don't. It's good to have him back.
His old mate Stuart Broad will share the new ball.

That's a belter. What a jaffa that is.
And again from Anderson! Lord's groans in unison. He might be trying to prove a point, you know.
Ben Stokes brings in a fifth fielder in the slip region...

Welcome back, Jimmy.
There we go!
The first ball from Anderson is probing outside off and beats Tom Latham.
Will Young (first one to make a pun gets a kick in the shins from me) and Tom Latham are the New Zealand openers.
James Anderson has the new ball in hand. He gets a big ovation from the Lord's crowd.
Here we go then. Strap yourselves in...

The winter is all behind them now. They can park that. Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes won't be talking about it, they will be talking about this morning.
And the players are all together, which is important for Ben.
Stokes looks to the floor as he quietly sings along to the English anthem before bringing his team together for a huddle.
Each player then gets a high five from the new skipper.
The Ben Stokes era starts now.
It has been quite the journey for this guy. Today he leads out England for real for the first time...

I wonder how Ben Stokes is feeling. Nervous? Excited?
Anthems time. New Zealand's is a good one...

It's about unlocking that potential. There is a serious amount of talent in English cricket. We see it more in the one-day game, but can Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes get people like Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley delivering what we know they can deliver?
Matty Potts has been lethal in the County Championship for Durham this season and was presented his cap a little earlier by former England and Durham quick Steve Harmison.
Want to know a bit more about Potts? Head over here for more on the confident kid who used to challenge team-mates to a fight in the dressing room.
