Very kind words, Kal. I'll try to live up to that introduction over the next few hours.

A balanced sensible morning of Test cricket. Just enough in this pitch for England's bowlers you feel - but they will have to work hard for wickets.

If you're just joining us on your own lunch break we'll quickly recap what happened in the morning session.

That's my lot for this morning. Here is the brilliant Timothy Abraham to take you through the lunch break and next session.

It's one of those days and pitches where there is no margin for error. There's something for the bowlers if they get it right but it's a small margin - the batters could easily cash in today.

Henry Nicholls drives James Anderson through the off side for his team's 20th boundary of the innings.

    And that, folks, is lunch.

It's been a real intriguing morning of Test cricket. New Zealand have scored at more than four runs per over and, for most parts, looked in complete control.

England pegged the tourists back with two wickets in as many balls, but you'd have to say the tourists have edged this session.

It's a 350 minimum pitch if they bat well. The outfield is very fast and there's not much movement.

And England have bowled them a lot of bad balls.

I've just seen there was a William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens who also played first class cricket.

New Zealand haven't found it too difficult to find the boundaries today, aided by some inconsistent bowling. Stokes offers up some width and Nicholls dispatches it for four, bringing up New Zealand's 100.

I think we'll get one more in before lunch.

James Anderson bowls round the wicket and Conway angles his bat and glances down to the fine-leg boundary for four.

Ben Stokes is getting a lot of movement through the air. None of the other bowlers have managed to do that.

Conway is struck on the pads first ball. My initial reaction was that it's close. But captain and bowler Ben Stokes knows better and opts not to waste a review. It was going over. Stokes has been impressive with his decision making.

Conway flicks a full delivery down to the mid-wicket boundary to get off the mark with a four.

The new man in is Henry Nicholls. He flashes at a wide one. It sails over the skip cordon for four. Risky.

New Zealand are trying to survive the England onslaught and get through to the lunch break. Devon Conway is yet to face a ball. Suddenly the Nottingham crowd has come alive.

Two in two!! Both New Zealand openers have gone.

James Anderson bowls back of a length and Latham gives into the temptation. He puts everything into a pull shot but finds Matthew Potts at mid-wicket, the fielder taking a smart catch diving to his right with both hands.

A real error of judgement from the stand-in captain. Ben Stokes and his team are buzzing. High fives and smiles all round.

That is beautifully taken at second slip. It was going so low to Crawley.

There was just a hint of swing. Stokes has been getting it to move both ways which had Will Young in two minds about how to play.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20.6 overs

    Young c Crawley b Stokes 47 (NZ 84-1)

Out of nowhere, Ben Stokes finds the breakthrough! And it's a brilliant grab from Zak Crawley.

Having been hit for two boundaries earlier in the over, the England captain bowls a decent line with a bit of movement. Young tentatively plays at it and Crawley, at second slip, dives to his left and scoops up the ball with both hands.

    Much-needed for the hosts.
