Time for some spin now as Jack Leach turns his arm for the first time this series. He was withdrawn from the team early on day one of the first Test after showing signs of concussion while fielding.
Leach is greeted by a clip through mid-wicket for four - Will Young targeting the bowler and latching onto a wide delivery.
Five from the over.

Michael Wieloch: I went to school with an Ian Blackwell…actually it was the one-Test wonder Ian Blackwell. Still think I was a better spin bowler than he was.
Can we come up with full team of cricketers who share a name with someone famous? So we have Will Young. I'll give you former English batter Will Smith. There will be plenty more, but I'm struggling to think. Help me out.

It seems like quite a few times Ben Stokes' first ball of his over goes for four. I'm looking at Andy Zaltzman to come up with the goods here?
Did they come to school on Monday? Skip class by Tuesday? In detention by Wednesday? Okay, I'll stop.
Ben Stokes' first ball is a stinker. Wide. On the up. Loose. And smashed for four by Will Young. Oh, and it's a no-ball.

I'm a teacher and used to have two boys in my class who sat next to each called Craig and David. Does that count?

There was both a Harrison Ford and a Ewan McGregor in the year below me at school.

This is now the highest opening stand in a Test match at Trent Bridge since 2005. There have been 13 Tests since played here then.
Another maiden from Matthew Potts. Albeit a completely unthreatening one.
England need some magic. On comes the skipper.

Mark Burt: England’s bowling has been toothless. Absolutely defines this side. Zero consistency from match to match.
New Zealand in complete control here. A loose delivery from Broad deflects off the pads for four. That is followed by a well-timed clip from Young through mid-wicket for another boundary.

A maiden from Matthew Potts which has stifled New Zealand's scoring a little. There had been a boundary in each of the last six overs before that one.
This may just be one of my favourite photos of all time.

Definitely the slips and the wicktekeeper were more interested than those in front of the bat. Matthew Potts has got the ball to kiss the pitch and there's a little bit of movement.
Now then. A big appeal from Matthew Potts as Tom Latham, stepping forward, is hit on the front pad.
Ben Stokes signals to his bowler to suggest height will the problem. And he's spot on. Replays show it would have sailed over the the top.

Once again, there's a Lincoln City FC flag attached to the railings at the front of the Fox Road Stand. It's always here during Tests. How do those Imps fans always get those seats?
Broad is on the money with the first ball after drinks. Good line and length, angling into the Young, and it is left well alone.
The remainder of the over doesn't go to plan, though. A no-ball is followed by four through point.

It's been a good first hour from New Zealand having been asked to bat. There's not been as much swing or movement off the seam. There's been some bounce. But New Zealand have been able to negotiate it so far. There haven't been too many demons. Stuart Broad didn't quite find his length from the Pavilion End. James Anderson looked a little bit more threatening. We've seen some good strokes from the New Zealand openers, who have got good value for their shots.

I commuted for twenty years with a James Bond. I also worked with a Tina Turner (who used her maiden name because of the grief it caused her)
