There is no rush from some spectators to return after lunch. There are lots of empty seats at the beginning of the afternoon session. The way New Zealand have started, I'd suggest it's worth coming back.
Stokes tempts Bracewell with a line outside off. The New Zealand batter resists the urge.
There is absolutely nothing happening with this ball. Just a few overs after lunch and England already look deflated.

I don't think England are going to be able to keep Jack Leach on here. The message for New Zealand has been to go after the spinner.
My word. Jack Leach is getting a battering. Mitchell takes three and then Bracewell has a jig down and smashes down the ground for another boundary.
Wallop. Full and straight from Leach and Mitchell clobbers him down the ground for six.
Yuck. Short and wide from Jack Leach and Mitchell takes a step forward and slaps through the off side for a boundary.

We've seen this England side too often. They've not been quite as switched on as Lord's. Even though the pitch is flat when you have 500 odd on the board you just feel it will happen for New Zealand's bowlers.
Test debutant Michael Bracewell clips off his pads for New Zealand's first boundary after the interval. A bit of a freebie from Stokes, though. A half-volley.
Four more. Stokes bangs it in short and Bracewell pulls through mid-wicket. Middled. Hit with real venom.
Nine from the over.

And we're off. Mitchell tucks off his hips for a single.
Skipper Ben Stokes with ball in hand. Mitchell on strike.

Robin Johnson: You know how this plays out. New Zealand declare on 550+, Zak Crawley hits two sumptuous boundaries then caught at second slip, Ollie Pope looks totally confused and feathers behind for about 10, Alex Lees makes an obdurate Joe 20, Root gets a 100, Jonny Bairstow makes a brilliant T20 25, Ben Stokes golden duck….
With very little going for England on the field, the Trent Bridge crowd have also been fairly quiet today.
A few quick wickets would soon change that. Ben Stokes leads his team out. Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell follow.

There was a little bit of energy from England after they got the wicket of Tom Blundell. They've wedged the door open a little and now they need to kick it down in the afternoon session.

Jack Leach has been on the receiving end of some big hits in this Test, and the dropped catch did him no favours. But the spinner continued to plug away and was rewarded when he dismissed Tom Blundell for 108.
The 236-run partnership finally came to an end. But the damage has been done.

New Zealand barely gave England a sniff this morning. England's catching in this game has been nowhere near the standard of Lord's and they are looking at their opponents making around 500 to 550.
England were woeful in the field yesterday. It wasn’t much better today. Matthew Potts completely misjudged this catch as Mitchell was given yet another lifeline.

Arjun: Never. Ever. Bowl. First. I don’t care what the ground looks like or is what the environmental conditions are. I don’t mind losing the toss and being inserted in to bowl, but it’s just so soul-destroying seeing make the same mistake over and over again.
