It's a crazy field. The ball is 72 overs old, it's soft and there is no one in front of square on the off-side. At the moment, Jansen is just standing tall and can hit it anywhere on that off-side.

That's the same shot, same position... and this time it's Ben Stokes who runs after it!

He fields it, spins, throws it back in, falls over, and the whole thing is faintly undignified. This field is... a choice.

Hammered off the back foot, that's a handsome shot and someone is going to have to go and get that. It's Jimmy, poor old boy! They've run four.

  4. SA 257-6published at 72.2 overs

    An all-run four!!

A gorgeous drive from Marco Jansen gets held up in the outfield, and it's poor James Anderson who has to run over and field it.

  5. Postpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 18 August 2022

Ben Stokes has decided to bring himself back on.

  6. SA 253-6published at 72 over

Keshav Maharaj ends the over with a clothed drive to mid-off.

It was a beautiful pull shot. It was a short ball, wide of off stump and Maharaj has just whacked it away.

  8. SA 253-6published at 71.5 overs

    Wallop!

Keshav Maharaj leans back and absolutely smashes James Anderson over deep mid-wicket to make it back-to-back fours. Lovely.

That's a terrific shot from Maharaj. He's really hit it hard. You feel that England are possibly here for the taking.

  10. SA 249-6published at 71.4 overs

James Anderson is back for England.

Oh, and he's promptly driven beautifully for four by Keshav Maharaj. Lovely.

England are starting to creak out there. The last shot was quite a good one from Jansen but the ball doesn't seem to be turning for Leach anymore. It did to start with but not anymore.

  12. SA 243-6published at 71 overs

That's a very good dive down in the deep to stop Keshav Maharaj picking up a boundary...

...oh, no stopping that one though! Marco Jansen hoists Jack Leach over mid-on for a lovely four.

Maharaj is a very annoying player, I remember him destroying Joe Root's figures the last time England were in South Africa.

  14. SA 236-6published at 70 overs

    Lead by 71

Shot! A bit too wide from Matthew Potts, and it's slaped with aplomb by Keshav Maharaj through deep third and away for four runs.

Oh, and that'll be four more, this time from the flaying bat of Marco Jansen through backward point.

  15. SA 227-6published at 69 overs

Jack Leach replaces Stuart Broad as the shadows grow across the Lord's outfield, and Keshav Maharaj can only wallop a clunky single into the leg side.

A niche stat for you. South Africa's top eight have now all made double figures, that is only the second time they've done that in this country. The other was in 1935 at Old Trafford.

  17. SA 226-6published at 68 overs

    A maiden from Matthew Potts.

It's got that winding down feeling about it, I'll be honest.

England have had four or five slips throughout the day for the South Africa top-order but as soon as the lower order have come in, they've disappeared.

  20. SA 226-6published at 67 overs

That's a thick edge from Keshav Maharaj, arms wafting away from his body, and the ball has somehow managed to find its way down to the boundary rope.

Now that's a much better shot from Maharaj, taking a wide Broad delivery and cutting it nicely for another four.
