  1. Ind 375-8published at 82 overs

Ravindra Jadeja is back in protective mode again, giving Jasprit Bumrah just two balls to face from Stuart Broad.

Bumrah clips it into the onside but declines the single. India are obviously not that desperate for runs.

  2. Ind 374-8published at 81 overs

A quiet return to the attack for James Anderson, with just the three runs off it.

There is a quiet hum buzzing around Edgbaston now following that wicket.

Plenty of empty seats during the first half hour of play, despite the ground being sold out. The 10.30 start is a reasonable idea in terms of the playing hours, but a shocker for fans getting here. If you're not driving, is it even possible to get a train to Birmingham for this time without having to set off on Wednesday?

  4. new ball

New ball takenpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

That was also the final ball of the 80th over. So England have taken the new ball.

James Anderson will have the first go with the fresh cherry.

That was very quick thinking from Zak Crawley to save the runs and realise he would have gone over the rope. In fact, the batters never crossed so it will actually go down as a dot ball. The difficult thing with catches like that is the awareness of where the boundary is. It's usually just in your periphery vision.

  6. dropped catch

Bumrah dropped on 0published at 11:05 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

That will go down as a drop - but in reality it is brilliant fielding.

Jasprit Bumrah plays a top edge towards Zak Crawley on the third man boundary. Crawley dives to take the catch but realises he is going to tumble over the boundary rope so throws the ball before doing so to prevent the six.

That was Stuart Broad's 550th Test wicket. He's the sixth bowler to reach the milestone.

Mohammed Shami was thinking should I pull it or try to ramp it so he got caught in two minds. It's brought his downfall.

  9. wicket

    Shami c Leach b Broad 16 (Ind 371-8)

Stuart Broad comes into the attack - and immediately takes a wicket!

Mohammed Shami goes for an upper cut but can only lob the ball up invitingly for Jack Leach on the third man boundary.

You see the sword coming out as he celebrates. The 'rock star' as Shane Warne christened Ravindra Jadeja when he was a youngster and he is living up to it. It's been a marvellous innings. He was in the shadow of Rishabh Pant yesterday, but he's he received the appreciation of the crowd and his team-mates today.

A little bit of luck for Ravindra Jadeja with the drop. It really took off and Joe Root with his hands above his head. Maybe Zak Crawley put him off a little by coming across him. But for his hundred he has played gracefully, played patiently, and now has a real chance to accelerate.

Ravindra Jadeja then cracks the ball through point for another boundary to bring up his third Test century.

A magnificent match-changing effort from Jadeja, who brings out the sword dance celebration.

    They all count.

England persisting with the short stuff as Ben Stokes bangs one in to Mohammed Shami, who manages to pull into the onside for another boundary. Shami then steals a single to keep the strike.

All the excitement in India last night was, of course, about Rishabh Pant's innings which was brilliant and audacious and set India up for whatever bonus runs they get this morning. Four out of Pant's five hundreds have come overseas and often in difficult circumstances.

  18. Ind 355-7published at 77.2 overs

Lovely shot from Ravindra Jadeja as he plays a top-edge over the slip cordon for four.

Jadeja into the 90s. India ticking along nicely.
