  1. Ind 350-7published at 76.4 overs

Ravindra Jadeja changes his plan and takes a single off the first ball, giving Matthew Potts five deliveries to Mohammed Shami.

Potts goes short and Shami immediately pulls through mid-wicket for four. Next up Potts is short again and Shami cuts square for another boundary to bring up the India 350.

If you are on nought, you want to get off the mark! But that's not the way Ravindra Jadeja is playing things at the moment.

  3. Ind 341-7published at 76 overs

Ravindra Jadeja grabs another single to bring Mohammed Shami on strike for the final ball of the over. Shami pushes it into the offside but declines the single, Jadeja looking to hog the strike as much as possible.

Edgbaston is slowly filling up, I think some spectators were anticipating a delayed start.

  4. Ind 340-7published at 75.4 overs

Good delivery from Ben Stokes. Getting the ball to nip back off the seam and move away from Ravindra Jadeja's outside edge.

There's still a bit of life in this pitch.

If Jadeja isn't going to take the single on offer, wouldn't England be better trying to get him out?

  6. Ind 340-7published at 75 overs

Ravindra Jadeja is looking to shield Mohammed Shami from the strike with the England field spread. He eventually pinches a single, with Shami seeing out the final two balls of the over.

Matthew Potts was bending like an opera singer reaching a crescendo with his appeal then.

  8. Ind 339-7published at 74.1 overs

Potts appeals enthusiastically as he thumps into Ravindra Jadeja's pads.

Richard Kettleborough says no, with replays suggesting it was straying down leg.

  9. Ind 339-7published at 74 overs

Ben Stokes short of a length to Mohammed Shami he sees out the rest of the over.

It's a bit gloomy at Edgbaston with the floodlights on. Matthew Potts will open at the other end.

You would imagine Ben Stokes will have the field will like this for Ravindra Jadeja before they attack the Mohammed Shami and give him a bit of medicine.

  11. Ind 339-7published at 73.3 overs

Ravindra Jadeja clips Ben Stokes into the onside and looks for two, but sharp fielding in the outfield restricts India to the single and brings Mohammed Shami on strike.

Matthew Potts, on Rishabh Pant's innings: "We know he's a destructive player and he played a blinding knock yesterday. There's not many wickets 40 to 80 over periods because the ball slides on nicely. But I am proud yesterday of the way the lads attacked. We didn't sit on the back foot, we tried to get amongst it.

"This morning I think our sole intent is to get them out. Ravindra Jadeja is going to try to play cat and mouse a little. If we can get him, finish off the tail then then let our batters get loose. If you get in past that first 30 or 40 balls you can play your shots."

  14. Blue for Bob daypublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

We look set for an on-time start as the two teams, plus umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Kettleborough walk onto the pitch. They are all wearing blue caps as it is 'Blue for Bob' day, in honour of former England bowler Bob Willis.

Spectators are also encouraged to wear blue to help raise awareness and money for research into prostate cancer, which took Willis' life in 2019.

Matthew Potts, speaking to TMS this morning before play: "I'm enjoying the aches and pains of Test cricket. This is the pinnacle of the sport, it's why we play the game. Virat's a great player, one of the Fab Four. It's nice to get his wicket, but every batter is a big scalp and that's my intent.

"I just try to keep things simple when I bowl, control the line and length. The more complicated I get with bowling it starts to go wrong. I bowl with a wobble seam, potentially in the subcontinent I might have to adapt. But in English conditions I'll keep it the same."

Rishabh Pant's innings was largely a traditional innings which tells you a story. He scored 41 percent of his runs in front of the wicket which is something you don't really see in a big innings from him. He should reflect on that and think 'I can bat in an orthodox way and be effective'.

Looking some of the forecast last night you would think it's all doom and gloom but it's actually not too bad here at the moment. They are rolling up the covers and the umpires are going out to inspect things. Their brollies are tightly furled up at the moment so while there might be a slight delay we should hopefully get started fairly quickly this morning.

We have seen a little bit of rain go through but there is a ripple at the end which could pass by the ground. It's touch and go. It will probably get to Edgbaston sometime between 11 and 12 so there is a threat of interruption. Once that is out the way there might be the odd passing shower, but there should be a lot of play throughout the afternoon.
