    Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 73-8

Shane Snater quickly gets off strike against Craig Overton with a single.

How does Adam Rossington play this now for Essex?

Looks like 'aggressively' is the answer as he carves the England bowler away for four runs.

A single follows and Snater adds two runs from the final delivery - 11 more needed by Essex. Any bets on a tie?

    Robinson lbw Parkinson 27 (Kent 199-6 v Lancashire 506)

Matt Parkinson claims his fourth wicket of the innings as he traps Oliver Robinson lbw for 27 from 47 balls.

Kent are still a massive 307 behind but Ben Compton is still there doing his thing and has now moved within 14 runs of a century.

    Harmer lbw Siddle 0 (Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 60-8)

There must be a few Somerset and Essex supporters who are minus fingernails this morning.

Simon Harmer plays down the wrong line to Peter Siddle, he's gone and this amazing match takes another twist.

Essex need 24 - Somerset require two wickets. Which way will this one go?

By the way, Essex's lowest score against Hampshire in a Championship innings was 69 at Colchester in 1931.

    Harris c Brook b Patterson 18 (Gloucs 227 & 36-2 v Yorkshire 376)

We said Marcus Harris was looking solid. Not any more, he isn't.

It's a good delivery by Steve Patterson from round the wicket and Harry Brook pouches a comfortable catch at first slip.

Gloucestershire are still 113 in arrears.

    Holland c Pope b Taylor 8 (Surrey 467 v Hampshire 223 & 27-1)

James Taylor strikes to claim Surrey's first wicket since enforcing the follow-on, as Ian Holland nicks behind to Ollie Pope.

Joe Weatherley responds by finding the ropes twice in as many balls but his side still trail by 217 runs.

    Wheater lbw Overton 17 (Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 57-7

As predicted, Craig Overton returns to the attack for Somerset.

This may well be the spell that decides the outcome of this match - and he completes his second five-for of the game by having Adam Wheater lbw with his fourth delivery, which cuts back into the right-hander.

Simon Harmer is the new batsman. Essex need 27 more runs to win.

Nottinghamshire are attempting to steady the ship on 22-2 after losing openers Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed for ducks to Michael Hogan.

They trail Glamorgan by 67 with Ben Duckett and Joe Clarke at the crease.

Sussex are continuing their promising start after being asked to follow-on by Derbyshire.

Skipper Tom Haines is leading by example and has moved to a half-century to see his team to 82 without loss.

At Chester-le-Street Ben Raine has taken the important wicket of Leicestershire captain Colin Ackermann who was dismissed for 81.

Leicestershire are on 223-6, trailing Durham by 206.

    Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 54-6

Lewis Gregory isn't posing the same threat for Somerset as Craig Overton and Peter Siddle and Adam Rossington puts him away through mid-wicket for four in the latest over.

Essex need 30 more to win - and it may be time for another Overton burst, unless Tom Abell thinks England spinner Jack Leach could do a job for him with so few runs remaining.

  9. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Gloucs 227 & 30-1 v Yorkshire 376

Marcus Harris made a hundred in the first innings and he's looking solid again today for Gloucestershire.

An immaculate straight drive for four off Steve Patterson takes the Australian to 14 not out, two fewer than partner James Bracey.

The deficit is now 119 runs.

Leicestershire have gained their first batting point, but the first hour of day three has belonged to Durham, in particular their fast bowler Matty Potts.

He took three wickets in the space of two overs to see off Hassan Azad, Louis Kimber and debutant Nick Welch.

Azad was on 66 and had added 112 for the third wicket with skipper Colin Ackermann when Potts did a job on him with a few short balls, the last of which clipped his bat on the way to the keeper.

Kimber then dragged a ball onto his leg stump when on four and Welch fell lbw for two - and moments ago, with new ball in hand, Ben Raine had Ackermann caught behind for 81.

    Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 44-6

    Who wants it most?

Essex are now more than half-way to their target after Adam Wheater drives straight back through bowler Lewis Gregory's legs for four runs.

He is 10 not out, Adam Rossington has seven, and while Craig Overton takes what, presumably, will be a short breather, the visitors need another 40 to win.

from Hugh: "#bbccricket, external Either the pitch that Essex are batting on is treacherous, or they are making extremely heavy weather of a modest target. I’d guess the former, otherwise they ought to be winning by at least seven wickets."

Glamorgan enjoyed the first hour’s play at Trent Bridge as they added a further 25 runs for their last wicket before striking early to get rid of home opener Haseeb Hameed.

We’ve seen a major turnaround in the game thanks to Timm van der Gugten’s century stand with James Weighell on the second evening, and last man Michael Hogan struck a few further blows before van der Gugten eventually holed out off spinner Liam Patterson-White for 62.

Michael Neser and Hogan then started with a string of maidens with Hameed lobbing Hogan to Kiran Carlson at gully - but on a good batting track in the sunshine, it promises to be a hard weekend for the bowlers of both sides.

Hampshire all out for 223published at 12:07 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Surrey 467 v Hampshire 223 (Hampshire trail by 244)

Jamie Overton has five wickets as he dismisses James Fuller with the first ball of the 56th over to bring an end to Hampshire's first innings.

Overton cleared up the last three wickets in no time after earlier resistance from Fuller and Keith Barker, who top-scored on 57.

Surrey have enforced the follow-on so we'll see Overton try his luck against Joe Weatherley and Ian Holland shortly.

    Charlesworth b Fisher 0 (Gloucs 227 & 8-1 v Yorkshire 376)

England pace bowler Matt Fisher comes in from round the wicket, Ben Charlesworth pushes forward in defence, but the ball finds a small gap between bat and pad and he is gone.

A disappointing start to their second innings by Gloucestershire, who need another 141 to make Yorkshire bat again.

  16. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

Nottinghamshire make a bad start to their second innings after conceding a 77-run first-innings lead against Glamorgan as England's Haseeb Hameed is caught in the gully for a duck from a near-unplayable Michael Hogan delivery.

Sussex skipper Tom Haines has made 40 off 47 balls so far in an unbroken opening stand of 57 with Ali orr after they were asked to follow-on by Derbyshire, who led by 331 on first innings.

Colin Ackermann has advanced to 80 not out for Leicestershire, who are 190-5, replaying to Durham's 428 all out at the Riverside.

    Surrey 467 v Hampshire 223-9

Hampshire have lost two wickets in three balls!

Keith Barker's fine knock came to an end for 57 as Jamie Overton found an edge to send it through to Ben Foakes.

It was Overton again two balls later as Kyle Abbott was caught by Jamie Smith at short leg to depart without scoring.

    Hampshire are trailing by 244.

    Westley c Davies b Overton 6 9Soemrset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 28-6)

Ok, the pitch is helpful to the seamers but this is a quite exceptional display by Craig Overton, who produces a beauty to have Essex captain Tom Westley caught behind.

Two wickets in the over, and 11 in the game, for the England paceman who registered a career-best 7-57 in the first innings.

Essex need another 56 to win - Somerset need four more wickets.

That's 10 wickets in the match for Craig Overton, who bowls Matt Critchley off the inside edge. That wasn't a great shot and piles the pressure back on Essex, who still need 57 to win as Adam Rossington comes to the crease. Wonder if he anticipated this kind of situation when he agreed to join them on a season-long loan from Northants?

    Cox b Ali 2 (Kent 162-5 v Lancashire 506)

It's hard going for Kent this morning.

They've only been able to add 25 to their overnight total and now Hassan Ali has cleared out Jordan Cox for two.

Oliver Robinson is in to join Ben Compton who is now on 73 and has seen many batting partners come and go over the past couple of days.

Kent still trail by 344 and it's getting harder to see how they will bridge that gap.
