for Keith Barkerpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Surrey 467 v Hampshire 218-7

Hampshire's Keith Barker moves over his half-century in some style, hitting Will Jacks for two sixes in two balls.

They were the first sixes hit by him, or any of his team mates - he was obviously getting impatient to reach 50!

Barker's now scored 53 off 62 balls and James Fuller at the other end is contributing well on 36.

Well bowled, Ajeet Dale - he knocks back Haris Rauf's ioff stump and his final figures of 4-72 are the best of his fledgling county career.

Jordan Thompson is left 42 not out and Yorkshire have a more than useful 149-run lead.

Has the crisis passed for Essex? It's a bit too early to say, but Matt Critchley is keeping the scoreboard ticking over. He is now 13 not out and Essex need another 61 for victory.

Timm van der Gugten is the last man out for Glamorgan who finish on 379, giving them a lead of 77 runs over Nottinghamshire.

Van der Gugten made an impressive 62 before Liam Patterson-White removed him to bring an end to the innings.

The two sides will have a quick break before Nottinghamshire take to the field for their second innings in this fascinatingly-poised match-up.

    Qadri b Bailey 10 (Kent 149-4 v Lancashire 506)

It was already looking like a mountain to climb for Kent and their task has just got harder still.

Tom Bailey has bowled Hamidullah Qadri for 10 for his first wicket of the match.

Jordan Cox is the new man in, joining Ben Compton who is the glue holding the Kent innings together.

  7. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 15-4

A couple of boundaries should calm the Essex nerves a little bit.

Tom Westley clips Craig Overton to mid-wicket and in the next over Matt Critchley strokes Peter Siddle through the covers with perfect timing.

The visitors need another 69 to win.

  8. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

Timm van der Gugten has moved on to 59 not out in Glamorgan's 372-9 against Notts at trent Bridge, a lead of 70.

    Kent 148-3 v Lancashire 506

Ben Compton continues to lead the Kent fightback against Lancashire and the opener is now on 68 not out from 172 balls.

He is joined at the crease by Hamidullah Qadri, who worked wonders with the ball in Lancashire's first innings, taking six wickets.

Kent trail by a sizeable 358.

    Somerset 109 & 154 v Essex 180 & 4-4

The Essex dressing room must be stunned following those three wickets in 11 balls. Tom Westley calms things down a bit by playing out a maiden from Craig Overton but Somerset tails - and anything else capable of vertical elevation - are at this moment up.

The 5 live commentary has now been switched to follow events at the Cooper Associates County Ground - and no wonder.

    Surrey 467 v Hampshire 170-7

Hampshire have made a steady start at the Kia Oval - as they very much needed to - with Keith Barker (31) and James Fuller (17) finding a couple of early boundaries.

They trail by 297 runs so plenty more work for those two to do.

    Gloucs 227 v Yorkshire 346-8

There is play going on at our other grounds and Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson has just collected two boundaries in the same Ryan Higgins over - the first edged past second slip and the second flicked down to fine leg. The visitors' lead is now 119.

Are we still in bed and dreaming of exciting action at Taunton?

No, it is actually happening...Peter Siddle picks up his second wicket in four balls as England's Dan Lawrence departs for a duck, caught brilliantly by Craig Overton at slip.

Incredible stuff - and Essex need another 80 to win.

  17. Abbott says Hants ready for task aheadpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Surrey 467 v Hampshire 152-7 (play resumes at 11:00)

Hampshire will begin the day trailing Surrey by a mammoth 315 runs after closing on 152-7 in response to Surrey's 467.

Kyle Abbott took three wickets in the first innings and he says the group is remaining positive for the task ahead.

"We didn’t have the best afternoon with the bat, there were some tired legs but they bowled pretty well so we can’t be too disappointed," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"A few decisions didn’t go our way a few dropped catches but that’s the way cricket goes. The boys are still up and in good spirits. Unfortunately we just had a bad 20 overs or so and there’s another opportunity to rectify that."

  18. Parky the danger for Kentpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Kent 133-3 v Lancashire 506 (play resumes 11:00)

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

It's hard not to talk about Matt Parkinson when the last nine wickets in this match have fallen to spin, so on another glorious sunny day in Canterbury I suspect many in the ground will be waiting for the moment he comes into the attack.

His three wickets yesterday displayed his variations, with Crawley dismissed by what looked like a top spinner, Muyeye deceived by drift, and Bell-Drummond fell to a lovely leg break. Looks set to be a fascinating day.

  19. Sussex to follow-on at Derbypublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 (play resumes 11:00)

No surprise at the Incora County Ground where Sussex have been asked to follow-on after trailing by 331 on first innings.

The south-coast county have lost their last five County Championship games and they are going to have to produce something special with the bat if the half-dozen is to be avoided.
