Derbyshire batter Brooke Guest becomes the day's third centurion in the County Championship.

Ollie Parry: Afraid I have to take the rap for that Pope wicket... come to the County Ground after work, hoping to see a lovely century, and he gets out literally first ball after I sit down. Sorry Ollie!

  3. Bad light at Headingleypublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Yorkshire v Kent 200-4

Still no news of a resumption in Leeds where it remains gloomy.

As time ticks on I'm less hopeful of any sort of restart, but we'll see.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Fullerpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Hampshire 224-7 v Lancashire

James Fuller swipes one through mid-wicket for two to bring up a richly deserved half-century.

It has taken 49 balls and includes six fours and that massive six off Tom Bailey, but more importantly it means Hampshire's decision to bat first looks far better than when they were 40-5.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Zaib lbw b Walter 16 (Essex v Northants 199-5)

Essex continue to chip away at the Northants battling line-up.

Paul Walter is filling in overs before the second new ball but he's trapped Saif Zaib LBW in front. Another useful strike for the host county at Chelmsford.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Pope c J Taylor b Payne 84 (Gloucestershire v Surrey 188-4)

Oh, Ollie Pope, you have given it away!

A century was there for the taking but he has clipped a half-volley outside leg straight to Jack Taylor at square leg.

David Payne has his second wicket and he's ended a partnership worth 151.

  7. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Somerset 249-2 v Warwickshire

Back out after tea at Taunton.

Tom Banton has joined his skipper Tom Abell at the crease after the dismissal of Matt Renshaw just before the interval.

Banton averages just 23.49 in first-class cricket. He's much better than that.

  8. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Hampshire 202-7 v Lancashire

What a way to bring up the 200 and secure the first batting point!

James Fuller comes down the wicket from Tom Bailey's first ball after tea and thwacks it over long off for a maximum!

Fuller is playing a little gem of an innings for his side, up to 39 not out.

  9. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Yorkshire v Kent 200-4

We might get a bit of this in the evening session.

The light is not good at Headingley and the umpires have taken them off straight after tea.

  10. 'Batting riches for Somerset'published at 16:18 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Somerset 249-2 v Warwickshire

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

More batting riches for Somerset in the afternoon as Matt Renshaw reached a fluent century - his fourth in two stints with the county - and Tom Abell moved smoothly to a third successive score of 50 or more.

It took the ball of the day so far, from Oliver-Hannon Dalby, to remove Renshaw on the stroke of tea, the crowd standing to applaud their Yorkshire/Australian hero as he walked in.

If you conclude from the score that this is a good batting pitch, you would be entirely correct.

  11. 'Durham dominate afternoon'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Sussex v Durham 210-7

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Just as Sussex dominated the morning session, so Durham have dominated this afternoon.

Liam Trevaskis and Ben Raine set the tone adding 53 in rapid time after lunch, but when Raine was out Trevaskis carried on the attack his innings including 11 fours and adding 82 for the 8th wicket with Matthew Potts.

Trevaskis reached tea just 13 short of what would be a maiden first-class century.

  12. 'Bell-Drummond full of confidence'published at 16:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Yorkshire v Kent 199-4

    Ben Watts
    BBC Radio Kent

A fine innings from Daniel Bell-Drummond (100*), who has looked confident from the word go, despite arriving at the crease with Kent 11-1.

The team slipped to 20-3 before his century stand with Jordan Cox, the one man to fall in the session lbw to Dom Bess for 68, having come through a short-pitched barrage from Haris Rauf.

Bell-Drummond was dropped on 50 second ball after lunch, uncharacteristically by Adam Lyth at second slip, and has made Yorkshire rue the missed chance.

His County Championship form in recent seasons has failed to match his impressive white-ball exploits, but with hundreds in consecutive matches, “DBD” has found form and shown plenty of intent, hitting 16 fours.

  17. 'Pope and Smith get rewards'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Gloucestershire v Surrey 167-3

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London

Surrey’s afternoon. Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith worked extremely hard in the morning session and got their reward with some lovely batting.

Both had lives, Smith dropped off Amir on 48 and Pope off Van Buuren on 72, but the visitors will be very pleased with an afternoon session that saw them head for a slice of cake unscathed.

  18. 'Bonus dismissal for Essex'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Essex v Northants 160-4

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Essex will be pleased with that session. 80 runs in the session but they have managed to weedle out three Northamptonshire batsmen.

Young and Gay batted so well in the morning they will both be disappointed not to have gone on to major contributions. Young in particular looks a smart operator; driving well and tight in defence. His dismissal while not offering a shot was a surprise.

The bonus for Essex is the removal of Rob Keogh right on the tea break, superbly caught and bowled by a diving Matt Critchley.

This game is already intriguingly balanced.

  19. 50 runs

for Abellpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Somerset 241-1 v Warwickshire

Skipper Tom Abell becomes the third Somerset batter to reach fifty.

His stand with Matt Renshaw is worth 104 and the hosts are in complete control at Taunton.

  20. Postpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Hampshire 180-7 v Lancashire

James Fuller is carrying on his T20-style cameo for Hampshire.

The number nine has raced to 24 not out from 12 balls and is leading his side towards a first batting bonus point.
