    Yorkshire v Kent 58-3

Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jordan Cox have just steadied the ship for Kent after they lost those three early wickets at Headingley.

    Brown c Jones b Ali 0 (Hampshire 40-5 v Lancashire)

Two wickets in the over for Hassan Ali.

Ben Brown tries to work the ball through mid-wicket, but he gets squared up and the edge flies to Rob Jones at third slip for an excellent low catch.

What a session for the Red Rose.

  3. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Gloucestershire v Surrey 27-2

Hashim Alma has survived a couple of big LBW shouts as he battles hard at the crease.

Taking a leg-stump guard to left-arm bowling has probably saved him. The ex-South Africa captain is being tested by some very accurate home bowling.

  4. 'Derbyshire working hard'published at 12:06 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Derbyshire 29-1 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Derbyshire have had to work hard to survive against an accurate Glamorgan attack on a grey and chilly morning at Derby, despite choosing to bat first.

Run machine Shan Masood went into the game with 611 runs in just four innings, but was fortunate to survive on 5 when his attempted pull off Michael Hogan was bottom-edged just past the stumps.

After playing and missing plenty of times, captainBilly Godleman was first to go when he edged the ever-willing Hogan to keeper Chris Cooke for 15.

Derbyshire were content to tick along at two an over with the hope of profiting later on a good batting track.

  5. wicket

    Dawson c Lamb b Ali 8 (Hampshire 37-4 v Lancashire)

It only takes eight ball for Hassan Ali to get in on the wickets.

Liam Dawson is pinned back in the crease from where he edges to Danny Lamb at second slip. It's greeted with a typically exuberant celebration from the Pakistan star.

    Lancs on fire this morning.

Andrew Brough: An hour into the morning's county cricket and only one team has managed to not lose a wicket. A damning indicator of the state of English cricket.

    Good luck Ben Stokes.

And that side is Somerset who are 46-0 against defending county champions Warwickshire.

  7. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Hampshire 33-3 v Lancashire

Jimmy Anderson is off after six fine overs. But little respite for the Hamsphire batters as Pakistan's Hassan Ali is on to replace him.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Burns c Dent b M Taylor 6 (Gloucestershire v Surrey 16-2)

Would you believe it? Matt Taylor strikes with his first ball as well!

Another left-armer, Taylor gets Surrey skipper Rory Burns to edge it through to Chris Dent at second slip. A familiar tale for Burns - a lot of graft but he trudges off with not many runs to his name.

Having shelled two catches this morning, Glos will be pleased with this reward for accurate bowling.

The Pakistan fast bowlers are enjoying themselves this morning.

Shaheen Afridi has also taken three wickets for Middlesex at Lord's to leave Leicestershire 32-3.

Shan Masood, in incredible form for Derbyshire with more than 600 runs this season, is six not out with his side 22-0 against Glamorgan.

Worcestershire are 54-2 against Notts with Ed Pollock just out for 31.

And Durham are 25-1 at Sussex. England opener Alex Lees was the batter to go for 11.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Patel lbw b Payne 9 (Gloucestershire v Surrey 16-1)

After battling through 11 overs with the new ball, Ryan Patel is leg before to left-armer David Payne's first ball.

Gloucestershire captain Graeme van Buuren will be pleased with that change.

    Haris Rauf is on fire!

The Pakistan paceman picks up his third wicket of the morning with a full ball that pins Jack Leaning lbw.

The right-armer has 3-8 and Kent are in all sorts of trouble.

Jordan Richards: Is Stokes the right man? Technically. Apart from Root, he seems the only certainty on the team sheet. You can’t have a player picked solely for being a captain. I was tempted with Broad as a short term option, but even he isn’t guaranteed a starting spot.

Nick Mottram: Asking Stokes to be Captain feels much the same as it did with Flintoff and KP. He's already been forced away from the game due to mental health issues.. this is just too much to ask of 1 person. Should have gone with Broad on an interim basis.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Vince c Salt b Anderson 2 (Hampshire 19-3 v Lancashire)

Hampshire's decision to bat first looks a bit dubious now, especially facing a man with 640 Test wickets with conditions in his favour.

Jimmy Anderson does it again as he removes Hants captain James Vince.

Length is spot on, hint of in-swing and Vince feathers it behind to Phil Salt as Anderson and the four slips go up in unison in appeal.

    Anderson's figures this morning - 5-3-2-2.

Crawley lbw b Haris Rauf 4 (Yorkshire v Kent 16-2)

Zak Crawley's underwhelming start to the season continues.

The England opener tries to flick Haris Rauf off his legs, misses, and is given out lbw.

99 runs in five innings for Crawley now.

  15. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Esex v Northants 23-1

Northants pair Will Young and Emilio Gay have steadied the ship somewhat after the loss of Ricardo Vasconcelos in the first over.

But Young has had a big life with Sir Alastair Cook shelling a chance at first slip off the bowling of Sam Cook.

  16. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Somerset 19-0 v Warwickshire

A solid start for Divison One's bottom side Somerset at Taunton.

Matt Renshaw and Tom Lammonby have seen out the first seven overs with few alarms.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Holland c Jones b Anderson 4 (Hampshire 11-2 v Lancashire)

It's now Broad 1 Anderson 1 this morning!

Jimmy, still to concede a run as he begins his fourth over, hits the perfect line and length. Ian Holland has no option but to play and he edges to third slip where Rob Jones takes a regulation catch.

With his easy run-up and ability to put the ball on the spot at will, Anderson looks like he could carry on forever!

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Compton c Duke b Haris Rauf 3 (Yorkshire v Kent 11-1)

Pakistan quick Haris Rauf makes the breakthrough at Headingley as Ben Compton snicks him behind.

It's a beauty that seams away and the left-hander can only poke it to the wicketkeeper.

  19. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Gloucestershire v Surrey 7-0

Quiet start for the Surrey openers, captain Rory Burns and Ryan Patel, in Bristol, where they have seen off seven overs with the new ball.

Two debutants for them as well in New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme and Australia-born bowler Dan Worrall.

Sam Curran plays his second match of the campaign as he looks to win his place back in England's Test team after injury.

  20. Broad strikes!published at 11:24 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    Notts v Worcs 26-1

Stuart Broad gets his first wicket of the campaign with a lovely ball that nips away and takes the outside edge of Jake Libby's bat.
