  1. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 341-8

Lunch at Old Trafford where rain and Shane Snater have held up the home side.

Snater is 40 not out and has played the role of number nine to perfection - some stout defence, a few fine shots and some streaky ones to achieve maximum annoyance.

It would suggest the pitch remains a good one for batting, though.

The players being welcomed onto the field at Old Trafford

The stop-start nature of the morning session does not seem to have dampened the enthusiasm of around 2,000 schoolchildren, who are providing some welcome noise to the play.

There are also a whole host of activities behind the stands to keep them occupied as well.

While there is going to be a mascot race on the outfield during the lunch break!

Northants v Kent 286-2 - no play before lunch

WICKETpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lawrence c Anderson b Wood 120 (Lancashire v Essex 334-8)

That is a tame end to a lovely knock from Dan Lawrence.

After looking untroubled all morning from the bowling, Lawrence just chips one into Jimmy Anderson's hands at short midwicket.

He punches his bat in frustration as he (and runner Matt Critchley) depart.

  5. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 334-7

Four more for Shane Snater. A bit of a slash as he gets four down to third man.

Essex have added 54 in the ten overs we have had this morning and are closing in on a fourth batting point. They need 16 from four overs for that.

Shane Snater moves into the 30s in slightly unorthodox fashion as he ends up on one knee but manages to get it very fine from a Luke Wood short ball and it just carries the rope for a maximum.

The partnership is now worth 52 off 64 balls and is helping Essex build a very competitive first innings score.

  7. rain stops play

Rain returns at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Notts 121-2 v Derbyshire 260 - lunch

Free runs for Joe Clarke as Alex Hughes sends down a full toss which he puts away through the leg-side for four to move to 23 not out.

Partner Ben Duckett has 33 and they are closing in on a 50 partnership - the last wicket having fallen when the score was 76.

That will be that for the morning, however, as the rain returns and the players go off for for a slightly early bite to eat.

  8. Better news from Worcesterpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Worcestershire 159-2 v Leicestershire 144

  9. Lawrence has a runnerpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 319-7

    Dan LawrenceImage source, Rex Features

We have just had a break in play for Dan Lawrence to receive treatment from the physio after taking a quick single.

He has just returned from a hamstring injury, so he will want to be careful.

Lawrence is OK to continue, but Matt Critchley has come out to run for him.

    Yorkshire 61-1 v Warwickshire 244

With the players off the field because of rain, umpires Nick Cook and Neil Pratt have decided lunch will be taken at 12:45.

Let's keep fingers crossed that this will be the day's only rain interruption - and not a long one either..

  11. Postpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Notts 116-2 v Derbyshire 260

Loan signing Liam Hurt has proved quite expensive with 37 coming from his first six overs, but the latest is a better one, with just three singles added to the Notts total. Ben Duckett is 32 and Joe Clarke has 19.

  12. No respect for reputationpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 313-7

    Shane SnaterImage source, Rex Features

Facing Jimmy Anderson from the end bearing his name, Shane Snater squirts one down past the slips for four.

But when England's all-time leading wicket-taker drops short, Snater pulls him for another boundary.

Snater up to 20 and providing great support for Dan Lawrence.

  14. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Headingleypublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Yorks 61-1 v Warwicks 244

A big 0 on his back, Nathan McAndrew hustles in again and Will Fraine pulls away a short delivery for four.

It's pretty grey overhead at Headingley and the commentators believe there is rain in the air - and sure enough, the umpires take the teams off with one ball left in the over..

Batters Adam Lyth and Will Fraine both have 16.

    Lancashire v Essex 300-7

Shane Snater scampers a leg bye off Jimmy Anderson and it brings up the 300.

That's a third batting point for Essex. Lancashire have just under ten overs to take two wickets and claim the third bowling point.

  16. Back under waypublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 299-7

We have resumed at Old Trafford and Dan Lawrence has added a couple of singles to his score.

    A welcome sight.

  17. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Yorks 57-1 v Warwicks 244

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is finally given a breather after a 75-minute spell of 12 overs for Warwickshire. His miserly figures are 12-9-9-0.

Will Rhodes is the new bowler and it is a maiden to the becalmed Adam Lyth, who has faced 93 balls for his 16 not out.
