  1. wicket

    WICKET - Geddes c Cox b Milnes 124published at 17:47 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 390-4 v Kent

Ben Geddes draws level with Hashim Amla's 124 - and then he goes on the same score the South African did!

He gets a thick edge to a Matt Milnes delivery and Jordan Cox takes a nice low catch to give his team-mate his second wicket of the day.

Superb effort from the 20-year-old on his first Oval appearance, though - Geddes fully deserves the applause he gets as he makes his way back to the pavilion.

He hit 16 fours and two sixes in a knock that belied his young years.

  2. wicket

    WICKET - Dawson c Rossington b Harmer 4published at 17:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 38-4

    What is happening at Chelmsford?

Simon Harmer is finding all sorts of movement and the Hampshire batters cannot cope.

Liam Dawson is completely befuddled by one that bounces up much higher than he expected - not sure whether it then loops up off glove or bat but it's either or both, and Adam Rossington takes a simple catch.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Jamie Smithpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 378-3 v Kent

Wickets everywhere then - but not at The Oval.

Jamie Smith follows Hashim Amla and Ben Geddes into the 50 club - and off just 48 balls.

Geddes is still going strong on 118.

  4. wicket

WICKET - O Price lbw b Morleypublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 209-6 v Lancashire

Jack Morley is on a hat-trick at Bristol.

Ollie Price is out first ball.

New man is his elder brother Tom.

Price sees out the over - but it is still a double-wicket maiden for Morley.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Keogh c Sibley b Brookes 130published at 17:36 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Northants 377-6 v Lancashire

A fine innings from Rob Keogh, his highest score in three years, finally comes to an end.

Henry Brookes claims his second wicket of the day for the Bears, caught at slip by Dom Sibley.

Lewis McManus (37) is joined by Tom Taylor.

  6. wicket

    WICKET - Higgins c Wells b Morley 11published at 17:35 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

  7. 100 runs

Hundred for Ed Barnardpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 240-8 v Glamorgan

No need to have worried. Ed Barnard reaches his fifth first-class century.

All of them have come for the England Lions man in the last two seasons.

He is on 107 as the Pears chase an unlikely second batting point.

  8. wicket

WICKET - Vince st Rossington b Harmer 1published at 17:32 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 34-3

    Wow.

There's always one game that goes nuts on day one - and this is it.

Just four balls after Ian Holland departs, Hampshire skipper James Vince comes down to the ground to try to smash Simon Harmer, misses, and is stumped by Adam Rossington.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Holland lbw b S Cook 11published at 17:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 33-2

That's both Hampshire openers gone - and both to Sam Cook.

Ian Holland is leg before for 11 and the title hopefuls are in a bit of bother at Chelmsford.

  10. wicket

Worcestershire eight down at New Roadpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 228-8 v Glamorgan

Wil Ed Barnard get his century at New Road?

He is on 96 but he has just lost another partner in Josh Baker.

Charlie Morris is the new man in, with only Dillon Pennington to follow.

  11. Postpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 33-1

Speaking of recoveries, Hampshire have done well to put the early blow of losing opener Felix Organ behind them at Chelmsford.

Oh, hang on, I spoke too soon...

  12. 150 runs

150 for Wayne Madsenpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Derbyshire 311-5 v Sussex

Wayne Madsen is a one-man wrecking machine today.

Derbyshire were 24-2 when he came to the crease and he's steered them all the way to a point where maximum batting points look eminently achievable.

  13. Postpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 334-3 v Kent

The one-sided nature of proceedings at The Oval should be of little surprise when you consider the teams' respective batting and bowling performances this season.

    Surrey's previous first innings totals this season are 428-8 dec, 467, 308, 603, 401, 671-9 dec and 382.

Kent, meanwhile, conceded 500 runs or more in the first innings of each of their opening five Division One games.

  14. 50 runs

50 apiece for James & Mullaneypublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Notts 321-4 v Middlesex

Half-centuries in quick succession for Lyndon James and skipper Steven Mullaney.

Their 89-run stand has steered Notts to three batting points, with the prospect of more.

  15. wicket

    WICKET - Bracey c Williams b Wood 15published at 17:04 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 186-4 v Lancashire

Ryan Higgins is the new man at the crease, to join Chris Dent, who is chugging along nicely on 73.

  16. 100 runs

100 - for Ben Geddespublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 323-3 v Kent

    Make your Oval debut. Tick.

Be part of a 200-run partnership with a cricket legend in Hashim Amla. Tick.

    Make a century. Tick.

Been quite a day for Surrey's 20-year-old batter Ben Geddes. Take a bow, son. Completes the century in style too by dispatching Joe Denly to the boundary.

  17. Another breakthrough for Glamorganpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 206-7 v Glamorgan

After five wickets in the morning, then none in the afternoon, Glamorgan get their second wicket of the evening session at New Road.

Michael Hogan bowls a lifter outside off stump and Joe Leach obliges, carving to Andrew Salter at point.

Ed Barnard, on 85, is starting to run out of partners.

  18. wicket

    WICKET - Organ c Cook b S Cook 0published at 16:57 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 238 v Hampshire 0-1

Ooh, what a start for Essex.

Too many Cooks spoil the broth, do they? Nah.

Sam Cook tempts Hampshire opener Felix Organ into a little edge to Sir Alastair who takes a very bobbling catch at slip and he's out for a six-ball duck to the final delivery of the opening over of the innings.

Big boost for the hosts, who posted 238.

  19. wicket

ESSEX ALL OUT FOR 238published at 16:44 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Beard c Donald b Dawson 33

Aaron Beard tried to take up where Snater left off, smashing three of Liam Dawson's deliveries in the 72nd over of the day for two fours and a six.

But then he skies off to Aneurin Donald and Essex are all out for 238.

Hampshire will be happy with that - but given the hosts were 56-5 this morning, Essex will probably take it too. They pick up one batting point as Hampshire claim all three available bowling points.

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Snater c Wheal b Abbott 71published at 16:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 222-9 v Hampshire

A cracking innings from Shane Snater comes to an end.

His 71 off 73 balls has salvaged a desperate situation for Essex.

He eventually bites the dust, caught by Brad Wheal while trying to add to his seven fours and two sixes.
