  1. wicket

WICKET - Harmer lbw b Dawson 19published at 15:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 164-8 v Hampshire

The end appears nigh for the Essex batters.

Having ended Tom Westley's gallant 46 lbw, Liam Dawson repeats the feat to remove Simon Harmer for a very patient 19.

Essex's hopes of salvaging any batting points rest firmly on the shoulders of Shane Snater, who has raced to 41 off 40 balls.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Josh Cobbpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Northants 252-4 v Warwickshire

Northants now have three half-centurions in this innings.

Josh Cobb reaches the landmark too. It's his 36th in first-class cricket.

And he has so far helped to put on 113 for the fifth wicket with Rob Keogh.

This innings has been a thing of beauty from Hashim Amla. Absolutely glorious. The sun came out almost to greet him, almost as a prelude to his century.

    Vintage stuff.

  4. 100 runs

100 for Hashim Amlapublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 251-2 v Kent

Hashim Amla will have made more important and challenging centuries than this one against a slightly weakened, outmatched Kent attack.

But it's another one to the tally - which we believe now stands at 56 first-class career tons - and it comes courtesy of almost identical boundaries driven to deep cover. Another four follows and he's up to 107.

Surrey are cruising - with just 55 overs gone, it would take a brave man to gamble against them racking up the maximum five batting points. They have two already, having passed 250.

  5. 200 runs

200 up for Nottinghamshirepublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Notts 204-3

In the Division Two meeting of the top two, Nottinghamshire have got to their first batting point - but at the cost of another wicket, to earn Middlesex their first bowling point.

Joe Clarke was the third man out for 47, superbly caught by Sam Robson off young legspinner Luke Hollman.

Clarke had a vicious slash outside off stump, and the ball came sharply at Robson, but he reacted superbly.

Haseeb Hameed is still going well on 90.

  6. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 138-7 v Hampshire

Shane Snater means business at Chelmsford.

He's almost playing with a disdain for what's mostly gone before him in the batting line-up.

Snater has hit 23 in half an hour. It might not last long but it's going to be fun while it does.

  7. 50 runs

50 for Ed Barnardpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 147-5 v Glamorgan

Ed Barnard reaches his 23rd first-class half-century, of which 11 have come in the last two seasons.

Little wonder other have counties have their eye on him.

The Shropshire-born all-rounder has so far shared an 89-run stand with Gareth Roderick for the sixth wicket.

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Phillips c Balderson b Morley 19published at 14:56 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

A first wicket of the season for young Lancashire spinner Jack Morley.

South African Glenn Phillips is the second Gloucestershire man to go as he tries to hoist him over midwicket but is caught by George Balderson.

Chris Dent is still there on 37. New man in is Miles Hammond.

  9. Division Two updatepublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

No wickets at all since lunch in Division Two, just to keep you up to date.

Nottinghamshire are 179-2 in the battle of the top two against Middlesex, while Derbyshire are 156-4 at Hove against Sussex and Worcestershire have recovered from 63-5 at New Road to 137-5 against Glamorgan.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Ben Geddespublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 208-2 v Kent

Ben Geddes records his first County Championship 50 for Surrey as he pulls fellow youngster Jas Singh away for four to reach the milestone in style.

This is his Championship debut at The Oval - you wouldn't know it from the assuredness he's shown.

Surrey are turning it on. Kent are turning it in. Well, that's maybe a tad harsh. But they seem to have run out of ideas with the ball.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Rob Keoghpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Northants 209-4 v Warwickshire

Rob Keogh becomes Northamptonshire's second half-centurion of the innings.

It is his 28th first-class half-century - and he has a good conversion rate, having gone on to reach three figures 12 times before.

Josh Cobb also looking good, having quickly moved on to 38.

The pair have so far put on 70 in less than an hour's cricket.

  12. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 204-2 v Kent

Surrey's third-wicket stand is on to 134 and counting - but it just came close to being broken.

Ben Geddes cut one from Jacob Duffy to mid-wicket where George Linde dove full length but could not reel it in. Saved the boundary at least. Good stop as that was travelling. Half a chance at best.

  13. wicket

WICKET - Westley lbw Dawson 46published at 14:34 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 105-7 v Hampshire

Things were looking bad for Essex. And they've just got a whole lot worse.

Tom Westley had been their ray of light but he's trapped lbw - the third leg before this innings - by Liam Dawson's spin.

Westley goes for a very creditable 46 and just halfway through the opening day at Chelmsford, Hampshire are firm favourites to record a sixth win in eight games as they pursue Division One leaders Surrey.

50 stand for Barnard and Roderickpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 120-5 v Glamorgan

Ed Barnard and Gareth Roderick have now taken their sixth-wicket partnership past 50 to correct the wobbles at Worcester.

Barnard, who has so improved his batting over the last two or three seasonsx, has so far hit five fours in his 36.

Roderick, again deputising as wicket-keeper in this game for Ben Cox, has hit three boundaries in his 22.

Just what was needed at an awkward time in Pear country.

  16. wicket

    WICKET - Rossington b Abbott 22published at 14:24 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 104-6 v Hampshire

    Sorry, Essex followers, our bad.

Jinxed your boys a bit there, sadly.

Kyle Abbott removes the bails for the second time this innings, following his dismissal of opener Nick Browne by also clean bowling Adam Rossington for 22.

  17. Essex digging inpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Essex 103-5 v Hampshire

It looked a long way back for Essex at 16-3 and 56-5 - and it still is but Tom Westley is playing a captain's innings and Adam Rossington is supporting him nicely.

Westley has 45 off exactly 100 balls, while Rossington has 22, as Essex bring up their 100.

    Almost a half-century partnership now.

  18. 100 runs

100 up for Worcestershirepublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Worcestershire 102-5 v Glamorgan

Worcestershire have brought their 100 up at New Road.

    An encouraging improvement.

From the murky depths of 63-5, the much admired Ed Barnard (28) and Gareth Roderick (12) have so far done a decent tidy-up.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Hashim Amlapublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Surrey 157-2 v Kent

Like buses, you wait a while for a half-century and three come along at the same time.

Slight edge from Hashim Amla but soft hands mean it was low anyway - it bisects the slip cordon and goes away for four.

The veteran South African did have a let-off a few balls before when he would have been run out had George Linde hit the stumps but the throw was not on target.

  20. 50 runs

50 for Haseeb Hameedpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 26 June 2022

    Notts 137-2 v Middlesex

Haseeb Hameed reaches 50 for the fifth time in 13 County Championship innings this season.

Five more will take him to an overall tally of 500 runs.

Joe Clarke is looking well set on 32.
