  2. wicket

    WICKET - Simpson c Clarke b Pattinson 92published at 16:06 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Notts 551-8 dec, Middlesex 321-7

    Same plot at Trent Bridge.

John Simpson, like Max Holden before him, also falls just short of a deserved century - and tea is taken there too.

Still another 81 needed to avoid a follow-on.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Lamb c McManus b Taylor 37published at 16:00 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Northants 451, Warwickshire 258-6

A wicket on the stroke of tea as Matt Lamb is caught behind off Tom Taylor - and Northants claim a second bowling point.

Still a concern this for Warwickshire. They are short of their usual full-strength batting line-up - and they are still 44 short of the follow-on target too.

Michael Burgess is on 16, and is due to be joined next by Henry Brookes.

  4. Tea at Hovepublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Not for the first time this season a middle order collapse from Sussex, who lose seven wickets for 124, four for 27, or three for nought, but, whichever way, Derbyshire have a first innings lead of 214

Huge surprise therefore that Derbyshire have decided not to enforce the follow-on, and that may give Sussex their best chance of a draw

41 overs left in the day. Expecting the visitors to look for quick runs.

  5. Tea at New Roadpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Glamorgan 117-3 (chasing 332 to win)

  6. wicket

KENT ALL OUTpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 331

We did not expect the last pair to hang around too long, and they haven't.

Conor McKerr gets Jaskaran Singh prodding forward and it's brilliantly taken by Ben Geddes at short leg. A perfect example of fielding in that position.

Surrey lead by 342. No question about the follow on.

  7. wicket

    WICKET - Bethell c Gay b White 6published at 15:41 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Northants 451, Warwickshire 227-5

Youngster Jacob Bethell is the fifth Warwickshire man out, with still a further 75 needed to avoid a potential follow-on.

A second batting bonus point is also in sight.

It's a third wicket for Jack White.

  8. wicket

SUSSEX ALL OUTpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Sussex 337 v Derbyshire 551-8 dec

An incredible finish to the Sussex innings as Hayden Kerr takes the last three wickets in four balls!

The Australian left-armer yorks Jack Brooks first up. Steven Finn last two balls before lobbing it to Sam Conners in the covers.

Then he has Sean Hunt trapped plumb in front to his first ball.

Sussex were 299-5, so they have collapsed in a bit of a heap.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Milnes c Smith b Lawes 29published at 15:30 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 326-9

Matt Milnes chases a wide one from Tom Lawes and edges it through to Jamie Smith with the gloves.

Kent's second innings is not too far away from starting.

  10. wicket

LANCASHIRE ALL OUTpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Wood c Scott b Payne (402 all out v Gloucestershire)

Luke Wood has had his concentration disturbed by reaching his 50 - and he immediately holes out to George Scott, to give David Payne a third wicket.

Lancashire lead on first innings by 65. Good late-order rally from Lancy that, having been 289-7 - and a nice little total in the bank to bowl with.

A slightly early tea will now be taken at Nevil Road.

  11. 50 runs

Half-century for Luke Woodpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337, Lancashire 402-9

Lancashire have gone past 400 - and Luke Wood has gone past 50 for the first time this season.

It's his third for the Red Rose - and the ninth of his career for one of the most improved cricketers in the land.

  12. Close but no cigarpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Keith Barker holes out to Simon Harmer as Essex beat Hampshire by 12 runs

Hampshire are now level on points with Surrey, but they would have gone top with a victory.

Their last innings effort was valiant with Keith Barker last man out for 42, as they showed a real desire to make a difficult chase.

Their regret will be having Essex 105-7 in the first innings and 105-6 in the second and shipping over 100 more runs in both innings. That left them too much to do on a turning pitch, as Harmer's 15 wickets showed.

  13. Career best for Harmerpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex (238 & 223) beat Hampshire (163 & 286) by 12 runs

Quite fitting that Simon Harmer took the wicket that won the game for Essex.

The South Africa off-spinner ends with 7-161 in the second innings and a career best 15-207 in the match.

Throw in his crucial 61 in the second innings and there is really no other candidate for player of the match.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Williams c Scott b Payne 12published at 15:19 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337, Lancashire 399-9

Lancashire are one short of 400, Luke Wood is two short of a 50 - and Will Wiliams is out, caught high above his head by George Scott off David Payne.

Good stand of 43 with Wood, who is now joined by last man Jack Morley.

  15. wicket

    WICKET - Duffy c Smith b Atkinson 1published at 15:12 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 318-8

Jacob Duffy comes and goes in double quick time.

He tries to force Gus Atkinson off the back foot and he nicks it through to the 'keeper.

  16. wicket

    WICKET - Cox c Atkinson b McKerr 47published at 15:11 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 317-7

While the drama was going on at Chelmsford, Surrey have gone bang-bang at The Oval.

Jordan Cox hits a lovely shot through off for four, before hitting a leg-stump half-volley from Conor McKerr straight to Gus Atkinson at mid-wicket.

  17. Holden misses out on centurypublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Notts 551-8 dec, Middlesex 271-6

Middlesex have lost a key wicket in the battle of the top two in Division Two.

Max Holden has gone for 86, to end a stand of 142 with John Simpson, who remains on 76, now joined by Luke Hollman.

Occasional Notts spinner Ben Slater got the wicket. Only the second of his 10-year career. And the first was just two games ago. New career twist?

The target for second-placed Middlesex is 402, to avoid the chance of being asked to follow on.

  18. ESSEX BEAT HAMPSHIRE BY 12 RUNSpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 28 June 2022
    Breaking

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 286

Keith Barker takes a couple of steps down the pitch to try and launch Simon Harmer out of the ground.

But he can't quite do it as he picks out the tall figure of Paul Walter at long off.

Essex win a thrilling game of Championship cricket by just 12 runs.

  19. Postpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Hampshire 286-9 (Target 299)

Brad Wheal gets a single off the first ball.

Keith Barker tries a reverse sweep off Harmer, it misses everything and runs away for four!

    12 needed.

  20. Four more!published at 15:04 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Hampshire 281-9 (Target 299)

Keith Barker dissects two fielders deep on the legside for another four.

    13 off Shane Snater's over.

18 needed but Simon Harmer has six balls at Brad Wheal.
