  1. Six more!published at 11:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 94-0

Not content with his 50, Felix Organ plonks Simon Harmer out of the ground for his fifth six of the innings.

Harmer's figures this innings read 12-3-60-0. And that's after taking eight in the first innings and on a pitch offering turn and bounce.

Maybe Ben Stokes' new approach with England is starting to seep down into the counties.

  2. Bears make steady startpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Northants 451, Warwickshire 92-1

Dom Sibley and Chris Benjamin have carried on where they left off last night,

    Slow and steady.

Seven overs gone today, 14 runs added.

  3. 50 runs

Half-century for Felix Organpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 82-0

A bit of a slash at a wide on from Aaron Beard, but it gets Felix Organ four more runs to bring up his 50 off 67 runs.

With three fours and four sixes, Organ has set an excellent tempo for Hampshire's pursuit of 299.

  4. wicket

Hogan strikes for Glamorganpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Worcestershire 271 & 166-8, Glamorgan 139

A second Worcestershire wicket goes down at New Road as Joe Leach also goes cheaply, caught behind off Michael Hogan.

It's an eighth catch in the match for stand-in wicket-keeper Tom Cullen.

He only needs one more to equal Glamorgan's county record of nine, jointly held by Colin Metson (twice), Mark Wallace (twice) and current injured first-choice wickie Chris Cooke.

  5. Steady progress for Sussexpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Sussex 169-3 v Derbyshire 551-8 dec

A nice opening half hour for home pair Mohammad Rizwan and Oliver Carter at Hove.

They have racked up 27 runs from the first seven overs - just the 382 runs behind now.

  6. Concussion protocolpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 157-2

There is a slight break in play in South London as Kent batter Jack Leaning has been hit on the helmet by Daniel Worrall.

The physio has been on, checks have been done and Leaning is OK to continue.

  7. Glamorgan make early breakthroughpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Worcestershire 271 & 153-7, Glamorgan 139

Early wicket on day three too for Glamorgan at New Road as Michael Neser takes his fourth wicket (and seventh scalp of the match) to remove Gareth Roderick for 6.

New man is former Pears skipper Joe Leach.

  8. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 63-0

That is massive from Felix Organ!

He bides his time before launching a huge slog sweep off Simon Harmer that flies out of the ground.

It's gone so far, we need a new ball.

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Salt lbw b T Price 38published at 11:12 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337, Lancashire 234-5

Early strike for Gloucestershire as Tom Price earns an LBW decision against Phil Salt.

Umpire Neil Pratt clearly had a lot to think about before finally, very slowly, raising his finger.

New man in is George Balderson, to join Steven Croft (52).

The new ball is due at the end of this over.

Price now has 3-35 from 17 overs.

  10. 50 runs

Half-century for Steven Croftpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337, Lancashire 230-4

A nice ripple of applause to start the day in Bristol as Steven Croft gets the one run needed to reach his half-century.

Actually, he runs two. It also brings up the 50 stand with Phil Salt.

    Lancs trail by 107.

It is the 70th time that Croft has got to 50 in his first-class career.

  11. Positive startpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 50-0

An over apiece from Simon Harmer and Sam Cook but the Hampshire openers have shown their intent.

A nice four from Felix Organ, four byes and a few singles adds up to 15 from two overs.

We should be in for a fascinating final day at Chelmsford.

  12. Bat, bat and bat some morepublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 147-2

Resuming 526 runs behind, the sirens are blaring in the streets outside the Kia Oval as the Kent batters make their way to the middle.

Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jack Leaning will be looking for a long stay at the crease given their vast deficit.

For Championship leaders Surrey, it's a case of finding 18 wickets over the next two days.

  13. Target 299published at 11:00 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    Essex 238 & 223 v Hampshire 163 & 35-0

Hampshire openers Felix Organ and Ian Holland did a sound job last night in seeing off 13 overs of the new ball and taking a small chunk out of their target.

They will need to score 61 runs more than in any of the previous three innings of this match, but don't forget just two weeks ago, England had to chase 299 on the final day of the second Test at Trent Bridge. And thanks to Jonny Bairstow's fireworks, we all know how that went.

Not surprisingly after 8-48 in the first innings, Essex's South Africa spinner Simon Harmer has the ball in hand first up.

  14. Follow it ball-by-ball on the BBCpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Radio Five's Kevin Howells is again the front man for the on-air coverage from Trent Bridge in the Division Two top of the table clash between Nottinghamshire and Middlesex.

  15. How's the weather looking?published at 10:54 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

The weather outlook seems generally fair, although the BBC App does suggest the possibility of some rain in the west later.

The Gloucestershire-Lancashire game at Bristol and Worcestershire's Division Two game with Glamorgan seem the two most likely to be affected.

  17. Good Morning and Welcomepublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Hampshire's Liam Dawson took half of the 14 wickets that all fell to spinners at Chelmsford on day twoImage source, Rex Features

We're at the halfway stage in this round of County Championship cricket matches.

The sun has mostly been shining, English cricket is suddenly in the ascendancy again, everything in the world seems good again - and there have been loads of runs everywhere.

Except that is at Chelmsford, where Essex and Hampshire have rather got ahead of themselves.

No top six batter has yet got a 50 in the match, 30 wickets have fallen in two days, all 14 of them yesterday to spinners Simon Harmer, Liam Dawson and Felix Organ and a result on day three is expected.

That might also be the case at New Road, where the once lifeless pitch appears to have woken up again and Worcestershire are already deep into the third innings of the match against Glamorgan.

We will spend the next eight or so hours trying to keep on top of things as we await a denouement in both those matches, as well as bringing you all the latest developments from the other five matches at Bristol, Northampton, The Oval, Trent Bridge and Hove.

    Enjoy your day.
