It's been a long, hot summer's day - one of those days the Style Council used to sing about.

It's been a productive one too with Adam Lyth, Jonny Tattersall, Emilio Gay, Leus du Plooy, Tom Alsop and Lewis Goldsworthy all scoring centuries.

But there was also bowling success with five wickets each for Simon Harmer and Kyle Abbott, and seven for Durham evergreen Chris Rushworth.

Join us tomorrow morning for day two.

  3. Close of play at Ageas Bowlpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Hampshire 42-3 v Warwickshire 217

One of those see-saw days at the Ageas Bowl ends with Kyle Abbott and Ian Holland surving the final over from Nathan McAndrew.

Despite Dom Sibley's 56, Warwickshire slumped to 104-7 before McAndrew saved them from total collapse with 63 off 109 balls.

Abbott took 5-45 is his more usual role, but the loss of three wickets before the close - including James Vince - may have taken a little of the shine off for the home side.

  4. Close of play at Riversidepublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Durham 2-0 v Derbyshire 283

Matt Salisbury protects England opener Alex Lees from the strike, with a no-ball by Toby Pettman the only score from his over.

Chris Rushworth took 7-44 in Derbyshire's first innings and the visitors were indebted to Leus du Plooy and Anuj Dal for a stand of 165.

Dal was caught behind for 90 - one of three vitims for debutant keeper Tom Mackintosh - but du Plooy was 122 not out when he ran out of partners.

    Vince c Sibley b OHD 8 (Hampshire 37-3 v Warwicks 217)

Warwickshire have the big Hampshire wicket just before the close as James Vince edges Oliver Hannon-Dalby to first slip.

Kyle Abbott comes out as nightwatchman - or is it officially 'nighthawk' now' - with three overs remaining.

  6. Close of play at Scarboroughpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Yorkshire 364-5 v Surrey

Adam Lyth pulls the final ball of the day from Ryan Patel for four to reach the close at North Marine Road on 152 not out.

Yorkshire were 125-5 at one stage but Lyth, who has hit three sixes and 23 fours in his 265-ball knock, added 239 with Jonny Tattersall - a new record for Yorkshire's sixth wicket against Surrey.

Tattersall reached stumps on 104 and they will have a further 14 overs on the second morning to add 36 to earn the fifth batting point.

  7. Close of play at Northwoodpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Middx 188 v Worcs 100-5

Easily the trickiest place to bat today has been Marchant Taylor's School.

Middlesex were 93-7 having chose to bat first before 21-year-old North Londoner Luke Hollman, made 62 at No. 7 and Tom Helm an unbeaten 50 from No. 9.

Worcestershire then slipped to 49-5 but the departing Ed Barnard, with 33, and Gareth Roderick, 18, have steadied the ship to the close.

But there's much work for the visitors to do to get on terms in the morning.

  8. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Glam 318 v Notts 19-0

A decent day's play on the banks of the River Taff.

Glamorgan were sent in and were really struggling at 193-6 as Brett Hutton took out three, four and five.

But credit to the hosts' lower order to haul them to three points.

Michael Neser made 42, Andrew Salter 35 and James Harris - batting at 10! Remember when was talked of as an England all-rounder? - 28.

No damage for Notts in nine over to the close.

  9. Postpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Hampshire 34-2 v Warwicks 217

Nathan McAndrew is short and wide and James Vince swishes it away square for four runs. There are six overs to go at the Ageas Bowl.

  10. Derbyshire all out at CLSpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Durham v Derbyshire 283

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Leus Du Plooy finished on 122 not out as Derbyshire were dismissed in Chester-le-Street towards the end of day one for 283.

Earlier, his partnership of 166 with Anuj Dal was Derbyshire's best sixth-wicket stand against Durham. Dal made 90 but was one of seven batsmen to fall to Chris Rushworth.

Rushworth conceded only 44 runs in the process. His were the second best figures for a Durham bowler in a head to head. Melvyn Betts took 7-30 in 2000 in Darlington.

Durham have one over to bat tonight after debutant Stanley McAlindon took the final two wickets in two balls to finish on 2-63. He will be the third Durham player to be on a hat-trick in this match after Rushworth found himself in that position on two occasions but couldn't get over the line.

  11. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Sussex 407-4 v Leicestershire

Oli Carter plays out a maiden from Callum Parkinson to end the opening day at Hove, but it's very much job done by Sussex, who have already earned maximum batting points.

The disappointment of losing Tom Haines with a broken hand was mitigated by Tom Alsop's magnificent 150 off 243 balls, which equalled his highest firs-class score.

Ali Orr made 70 at the top of the order and Carter will resume on 54 not out at the start of day two.

  12. 100 runs

for Jonny Tattersallpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Yorkshire 352-5 v Surrey

For only the second time in his first-class career, Jonny Tattersall scores a century for Yorkshire - and he does it with a boundary off England fast bowler Jamie Overton.

In truth, a leg stump full toss was a bit of a gift, but he makes no mistake in putting it away to reach three figures off 211 balls.

It also earn a fourth batting point for his side and he has now added 227 with Adam Lyth, who has 141.

  13. Postpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Durham v Derbyshire 279-9

So there won't be a new career-best for Chris Rushworth - but he won't begrudge 18-year-old Durham debutant Stanley McAlindon this magic moment. Sam Conners the man to go.

    Gubbins c Mousley b McAndrew 2 (Hampshire 24-2 v Warwicks 217)

A second breakthrough by Warwickshire as Nick Gubbins jabs at a ball from Nathan McAndrew and is caught at second slip. Dan Mousley punches the air with both fists after hanging onto it. Still 10 overs to go at the Ageas Bowl.

    Yorkshire 331-5 v Surrey

After the exhilaration of his recent Test debut, it's been a tough day for Jamie Overton at Scarborough.

Adam Lyth throws the bat at a wide one in the fast bowler's latest over and slices it away for four - Overton now has 0-65 from 17 overs.

Lyth is 137 not out and Jonny Tattersall is on 92.

NORTHANTS ALL OUTpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Kerrigan b Linde 7 (Kent v Northants 303)

Jack White drove his third ball through cover for four to bring 300 up for Northants.

So they have at least rescued a third point.

But Simon Kerrigan swings at George Linde and is cleaned up.

Only two overs left so that's the close at Canterbury.

Northants were in complete control having won the toss at 205-4.

Emilio Gay made his first century of the summer, and second overall, but his dismissal was the first of four really poor strokes.

It saw the visitors slump to 258-6 and expose the lower order to the second new ball.

Kent have polished them off very nicely and will be delighted.

Northants have surrendered the chance to control the game, losing 8-98, but do have some runs on the board.

  17. Close at Southportpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 297-5

What a fine day's cricket for the first match back at Southport and Birkdale CC since 2018.

Lancashire firmly on top early on as Somerset slipped to 105-4.

But then a wonderful fightback by two young 'uns.

James Rew, 18, made 70 on his Championship debut.

And Lewis Goldsworthy, 21, went all the way to a maiden century in his 14th match as the pair added 145.

Goldsworthy walks off 103 not out and, with Lewis Gregory, on 23, helping his side to the close, the visitors have won the day.

    Praaper jaab.

    Kent v Northants 297-9

It looked like Northants might still scrape their way to 300.

Ben Sanderson slugged Matt Milnes straight over his head all the way for six.

And then pulled Grant Stewart through midwicket for four.

But he's flashed again at Stewart and nicked behind.

The visitors still three shy of another point.

    Alsop c Parkinson b Mulder (Sussex 380-4 v Leics)

Tom Alsop's superb knock comes to an end as he top edges an attempted pull shot off Wiaan Mulder. He's not happy with himself and scuffs the adjacent wicket with his foot as he trudges off.

Alsop has done a magnificent job for Sussex, though, having gone to the crease when Tom Haines retired hurt with a broken hand.

Oli Carter is still there on 49 not out.

  20. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Essex 127-1 v Gloucestershire 136

An unbroken stand of 120 between Alastair Cook and Tom Westley and Essex are just nine runs short of matching Gloucestershire's paltry first-innings total at Chelmsford.

Two runs off Ryan Higgins brought up Westley's 50 from 146 balls and there was no addition to it as Cook played out a maiden in Higgin's next over to end the day on 61 not out - an innings including nine fours.

Simon Harmer took 5-44 earlier in the day as the visitors lasted just 39 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.
