  1. Lunch at Southportpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 89-3

Scorchio on the Lancashire coast and it's the home side who have enjoyed the best of the first session.

Two early wickets for Tom Bailey and Jack Morley breaking a steady stand on the stroke of lunch.

Tom Lammonby leading Westcountry resistance on 34.

  2. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Kent v Northants 95-1

Northants endured the worst possible start after winning the toss as captain Ricardo Vasconcelos fell first ball of the match.

But since then Emilio Gay, who takes lunch on 46, and Ryan Rickelton, 44, have formed a smart partnership.

Matt Quinn the pick for Kent, a wicket and only 17 runs from his eight overs.

  3. Postpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Essex v Gloucs 95-6

Easy picking for Zafar Gohar as Jamie Porter strays onto leg stump and the left-hander flicks it away for four.

Gloucestershire skipper Graeme van Buuren drives Simon Harmer for four at the start of the next over and and has 30 not out from 30 balls at the other end, but his team badly need him to put at least a 1 in front of that number.

WICKET Bartlett b Morley 27published at 12:52 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 77-3

Just what Somerset didn't want just before lunch.

George Bartlett gets himself into a total tangle trying to play a flighted ball.

It's just the second delivery from Jack Morley - the 21-year-old slow left-armer playing on his third game.

    Lancashire's morning now.

  5. wicket

    O Price st Rossington b Harmer 1 (Essex v Gloucs 84-6)

    The Gloucestershire decline continues.

Ollie Price tries to come down the track to Simon Harmer, the ball spins back through the gate and Adam Rossington completes an easy stumping.

Harmer now has 3-18 and he is into his ninth over of the seasson.

    Yorkshire 83-3 v Surrey

Will Luxton is riding his luck a bit at Scarborough.

Having already been dropped at second slip, he is safely taken in the same position off Conor McKerr - but this time it's a no-ball.

Poor old McKerr. He finds the shoulder of the bat with his next ball and it flies away over the slips for four. When you are bowling in baking heat, that is very much not what you need.

    Kent v Northants 64-1

South African left-armer George Linde is introduced.

And is immediately taken for tres boundariés.

Ryan Rickelton drives a full toss past mid-off, then reverse-sweeps past point.

Emilio Gay rounds off the over by skipping down to the first ball he sees from Linde and pops him down the ground.

The visitors now well placed after the loss of their skipper first ball of the match.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Bracey c Rossington b Harmer 12 (Essex v Gloucs 74-5)

Straightforward catch for the keeper as James Bracey feathers an edge playing back defensively at Chelmsford. That's two of the five wickets for spinner Simon Harmer now.

  11. Division Two round-up - 50 for Orrpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

Ed Barnard bowls Robbie White for two and Max Holden is run out by Josh Baker for 12 and Middlesex are in all sorts of trouble on 51-5 after 19 overs against Worcestershire.

Ali Orr is now 55 not out off 59 balls for Sussex, who are 108-0 after 17 against Leicestershire - despite Tom Haines retiring hurt with a hand injury and Orr himself being struck a rather painful blow.

Glamorgan are 82-3 after 20 against leaders Notts - Eddie Byrom the last man to go, lbw to Dane Paterson for 24.

Further to Martin Emmerson's update (see 12:20 entry), Derbyshire are now 45-3 in the 21st against Durham.

  12. dropped catch

Let-off for Luxtonpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Yorkshire 67-3 v Surrey

Will Luxton flashes at a wide ball from Conor McKerr and the ball flies through the hands of a diving Will Jacks at second slip.

Luxton meets the next with the middle of the bat, it's a little uppish but finds a gap at cover and runs away for another boundary.

  13. 50 runs

for Dom Sibleypublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Hampshire v Warwicks 68-1

Dom Sibley clips Liam Dawson pleasantly through mid-wicket for four and reaches his half-century off 56 balls. There have been a few thick edges and some strokes of real quality in his innings so far. I bet there are a few Warwickshire fans who are disappointed that he ie returning to Surrey next year.

    Durham v Derbyshire 43-3

It's a hot day in CLS and Durham have taken three wickets in the first hour of play. Chris Rushworth, returning after a few weeks off because of the T20, has taken 2-7 in his first seven overs.

Luis Reece was LBW for five and Billy Godleman fell to a cracking one-handed catch by debutant keeper Tom Mackintosh, when on three.

He is one of three debutants. The others are Australian opener Nic Maddinson and young fast bowler Stanley McAlindon.

Wayne Madsen has also departed for 10, caught at second slip by Scott Borthwick off Ben Raine. It was a sharp chance which he took well.

The bowlers have regularly found the edge but a number of those have dropped just short of the cordon.

We are expecting highs of 27C here today. It's too warm with the air con off and too cold with it on. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. PS the first boundary came after an hour and 15 minutes of play.

  15. wicket

    Fraine c Jacks b Hardie 14 (Yorkshire 58-3 v Surrey)

Adam Lyth leg glances Conor McKerr for four and then pulls the next ball over square leg for six as the Yorkshire total passes 50.

But the first ball of the next over sees the end of Will Fraine as he plays away from the body in trying to drive Aaron Hardie and Will Jacks takes a sharp chance at second slip.

Championship debutant Will Luxton is the next cab off the rank.

    Unnecessary.

Alex Davies attempts a paddle sweep but fails to make contact and left-arm spinner Liam Dawson has Hampshire's second wicket.

Dom Sibley has slowed down a bit at the other end, and is now 47 not out.

  17. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Tom HainesImage source, Rex Features

Sussex opener Tom Haines has been forced to retire hurt on 24 after being struck on the hand - they are 77-0 in the 14th over against Leicestershire, with Tom Alsop now partnering Ali Orr (31 not out).

Derbyshire are 35-3 after 16 against Durham - Wayne Madsen was the latest wicket to fall, caught at second slip off Ben Raine for 10.

Brett Hutton has removed Colin Ingram for 34 at Sophia Gardens and Glamorgan are 71-2 in the 17th against Notts.

Middlesex are struggling on 40-3 after 16 against Worcestershire, with Mark Stoneman and Jack Davies both falling to Dillon Pennington.

  18. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 44-2

Tom Lammonby has come out trying to repair some early damage.

Two very sweet straight drives and a flick wide of long leg from the left-hander.

George Barlett has taken a more proactive approach and has stepped across his stumps to whip George Balderson through midwicket.

  19. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Yorkshire 42-2 v Surrey

Aaron Hardie is playing his first red-ball game for Surrey but overpitches and Will Fraine cover drives magnificently for four. He is 14 not out and Adam Lyth has 19.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    Hammond b Beard 10 (Essex v Gloucs 37-4)

    Oh dear, oh dear.

No shot offered by Miles Hammond, the ball from Aaron Beard cuts back off the seam and the left-hander is cleaned up.

Having chosen to bat first after winning the toss, Division One's bottom team are in some strife at Chelmsford.
