    Derbyshire 306 v Durham 79-0

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

We lost 40 minutes of play to bad light and rain this morning and it looks like there could be more of the same this afternoon.

Despite the fact the lights have been on and it is damp, Durham have got off to a good start in their first innings.

Having bowled Derbyshire out for 306 in the final over last night, they have reached 79-0 in 20 overs. Michael Jones has 48 of those and his first seven scoring shots were all fours.

Depending on which website you look at, we could be in for a decent afternoon weather-wise, or a poor one. At the moment the big covers are coming on and it looks like a period of frustration and waiting about beckons.

Twenty six balls is all it takes for Yorkshire to pick up the last two wickets and bring Lancashire's first innings to an end.

It has been some performance, when you consider that the Red Rose were 180-0 and 231-1 on day one.

Matt Parkinson is the last to go, lbw to Ben Coad, who finishes with 3-20.

George Hill wasn't needed today, but his figures of 6-26 were the key to Lancashire's decline.

Yorkshire all-rounder George Hill acknowledged that returning career-best bowling figures on the opening day of the Roses match against Lancashire was "quite cool".

Hill took 6-26 as the White Rose fought back strongly after an opening stand of 180 between Keaton Jennings (119) and Luke Wells (81) - his haul including the wickets of both openers.

"It was just that the odd one nibbled enough. The key for me was to run in - I felt in good rhythm - and hit the same area," he said.

“I said to Tatts [captain Jonathan Tattersall] after my second or third wicket, ‘get me off and put the strike bowlers on’. But, thankfully, he kept me on."

    Somerset 34-2 v Gloucestershire 343 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It has been an eventful morning's cricket, the heroes of the hour being the Somerset groundstaff, who worked miracles to get the ground fit for play after overnight downpours, and the umpires, who lost no time at all in getting the players out there, with the result that only four overs have been lost - so far!

Batting conditions are not as benign as yesterday, and the Gloucestershire opening bowlers, David Payne and Ajeet Singh Dale, have been asking far more searching questions than their Somerset counterparts.

Even Pakistan Test opener Imam ul-Haq, on his debut for Somerset, has found it tough going against a swinging, seaming ball.

Essex have got plenty on the board but will be frustrated at three cheap dismissals in the morning session.

Two of them fell to Daniel Bell-Drummond’s part-time (ish) (sort-of) seam - including Matt Critchley for 90.

They may still forge onto 450+ but the chance to completely bat Kent out of the game has perhaps gone.

Feroze Khushi takes lunch 86 not out.

Somerset did the necessary after a delayed start by claiming the last four Gloucestershire wickets for 23 runs.

But they have lost the two Toms - Lammonby and Abell - at the start of their reply and have a lot of work to do if they are to establish a first-innings lead.

Tom Abell hasn't had a lot of cricket of late because of injury and his appearance at the crease is brief as Ajeet Dale finds the edge and Ollie Price takes a shoulder-height catch at second slip.

A little bit of extra bounce there for the promising Gloucestershire paceman and this definitely isn't the start to their innings that Somerset wanted.

George Bartlett is the new batter.
