It doesn't take Barker long to get into his work!

    Great start for the hosts.

It is a special week for Surrey, who have renamed their ground the Micky Stewart Oval to mark his recent 90th birthday.

Micky has had a 75-year association with the club as player, captain, coach, cricket manager and president.

He will be presented with the 'Keys to the Oval' in a special ceremony during the tea interval on the second day against Yorkshire.

Stewart also made eight Test appearances during his playing career and was later manager of the England team.

Division One tableImage source, BBC Sport

It is theoretically possible for Surrey to be crowned champions this week, should they win and Hampshire lose to Kent.

The same is not true if those results were reversed - the biggest margin Hampshire could achieve is 16 points and that is assuming Surrey fail to take even one against Yorkshire.

Lancashire and Essex can still catch both, but it will take a very unexpected set of results over the next fortnight for either of them to emerge with the title.

At the bottom, Gloucestershire will be relegated if Kent or Warwickshire pick up eight points or more.

  18. International quintet back in actionpublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 20 September 2022

A handful of international players will be back in action for their county sides in the penultimate round of games, with Test cricket done and dusted for the summer.

Surrey have England keeper Ben Foakes and batter Ollie Pope in their XI to face Yorkshire, along with fit-again fast bowler Jamie Overton.

Somerset have Overton's bother Craig available for their home game against Northamptonshire, while South Africa spinner Simon Harmer returns to the Essex ranks against Lancashire.

He isn't an international player - yet - but all-rounder Ben Mike makes an early Yorkshire debut after being cleared by Leicestershire to join them on loan ahead of his permanent move for 2023.

Division Two tableImage source, BBC Sport

A draw at Worcester which earns Nottinghamshire at least 10 points should make certain of their promotion to Division One - and a win earning a maximum of 22 will be enough for the title.

But they may not need that many if second-placed Middlesex are unable to claim the full 24 from their trip to winless Leicestershire.

Any win would be very welcome at Lord's though, as their closest rivals for second spot, Glamorgan and Derbyshire, meet in Cardiff.

Don't write off Durham and Worcestershire just yet - victory for them could keep their faint hopes of finishing as runners-up alive, should Leicestershire do them a favour at Grace Road.
