Northamptonshire did Hampshire a favour at Wantage Road by holding Surrey to a draw, despite Tom Curran's sparkling 115 off 93 balls.

Warwickshire and Somerset also played out a draw at Edgbaston, leaving both still under threat of relegation, but Essex won in a thrilling finish against Yorkshire with their final pair together at the crease.

In Division Two, Middlesex boosted their promotion chances with a decisive 10-wicket win over Glamorgan, while Durham chased a modest target to beat Leicestershire - only their second Championship victory of the season.

The remaining game at Hove was drawn following Jake Libby's career-best 215 for Worcestershire.
