What are the best debut Test bowling figures? Has anyone ever taken all 10 on debut in first class cricket?

    Stuart from Boston

The best debut Test bowling figures are 8-43 by Australia's Albert Trott in the third Test of the 1895 Ashes against England.

Not sure about your second question yet...we'll work on it.

    Thanks, Tom.

What a session that was! England have raced along at nearly five-and-a-half an over and looked to be in a great position at one stage.

Debutant Abrar Ahmed has changed that, though. He's taken five wickets in his first session in Test cricket to put Pakistan on top.

Still, he went at 5.38 an over so mixed fortunes really...

After that thrilling session it is time for me to take a break.

A reminder that lunch is an hour today because of Friday prayers, so the afternoon session will begin 08:30 GMT.

Here to take you through the lunch break and the afternoon session is Sam Drury.

Abrar will be the happiest man on Earth. He'll be soaking it all in and he's been honoured by being asked to lead the team off the field for Lunch.

It looked as though it would be Duckett's morning or Pope's morning but it has been Abrar Ahmed's morning in his first Test match.

Abrar Ahmed gets a rapturous reception as he leads the Pakistan team off the field. He is 5-70 from 13 overs on debut.

    A brilliant effort.

  7. Lunch - Eng 180-5published at 33 overs

Last over before lunch, so naturally Ben Stokes is teeing off.

He powers a reverse sweep for four before attempting to hit Abrar Ahmed over the top the next ball and running two.

Abrar, a little bit frazzled after those two shots, drops it in short and Stokes clatters it through the covers for four.

The England skipper then defends the final ball to bring to an end a thoroughly entertaining session with England 180-5.

  8. Eng 170-5published at 32 overs

My first two stints in the first Test failed to produce a wicket, so I've more than made up for it here.

Time for one over before lunch I think.

I don't think Babar was that confident. You could see it from his body language.

They've taken a couple of good reviews but that was a poor one.

  10. Not outpublished at 07:26 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2022

Umpire Joel Wilson cannot tell from the replay whether the ball hit bat or pad first so tells Marais Erasmus to stick with his original decision.

The ball was not pitching in line either so all in all a poor review.

I don't think that has hit him in line.

Mohammad Nawaz thinks he has Ben Stokes trapped lbw here.

The umpire says no - but Babar Azam, after a long delay, sends it upstairs.

This is England's last recognized batting pair. No Liam Livingstone in this game, he's gone back home injured.

Abrar is a fine cricketer. He's got a lot of talent and something about him. Picking up five before lunch is really an achievement.

Abrar has got five before lunch on his Test debut.

The other leg-spinner who was picked ahead of him in the last game went for 300. Would you believe it, what a moment.

They have got another wicket - and Abrar Ahmed has five!

It is a poor shot from Harry Brook. He attempts to loft Abrar over the top but doesn't middle it and the ball flies up in the air and down into the hands of Mohammad Nawaz.

That was a tough take as the sun was directly in his eyes.

Pakistan would love to pick up another wicket before lunch. We've probably got three or four overs left.

  20. Eng 166-4published at 30 overs

Harry Brook thinks he has four with a lovely wristy cut shot square through point but the fielder does well to claw it back before the rope.

We have about 12-13 minutes before lunch. It has been a fascinating session so far.

Abrar Ahmed, with his eyes on a debut five-fer, will continue.
