Six more! Will Jacks gets after Nawaz, hitting the ball a long way up and just far enough to drop over the rope.

He didn't get all of it but there was no one back there and Jacks is strong enough that it carried all the way, in any case.

  2. Eng 218-5published at 41 overs

Just prior to that review, Stokes had thumped Abrar back over mid off, one bounce for four on this occasion.

England are on the charge once more.

They've had a couple of decisions overturned today but that was a poor review. I think Rizwan should have seen that was pitching outside leg.

    Eng 218-5

Yeah, that is a pretty terrible review. The ball pitched a long way outside leg and it stays not out.

Pakistan have just one review remaining. That was a waste.

Pakistan are going for the review with just a second to go.

  6. Pakistan reviewpublished at 40.4 overs

Big appeal from Pakistan as Stokes sweeps and misses. It looked to pitch well outside leg but Babar sends it upstairs.

He's smashed that for six down the ground. It's a huge shot, it's ricocheted off the roof just below us.

    OK, scrap that.

Stokes advances to Abrar and pumps him back down the ground for a mighty six! That went dead straight - a wonderful shot form the England captain.

If England did go down the gears, they've quickly gone back up.

  9. Eng 208-5published at 40 overs

    Stokes 19, Jacks 19

There has been an element of that since lunch, Rob, certainly from Stokes. Although I'm not sure how long it will last.

Just a single from Nawaz's over, pushed to long on by Stokes.

Isn't there a level above the way England are currently playing? Where they can consolidate, go down the gears after a flying start, then go back up through the gears later or in certain sessions. That would be even more dispiriting and hard to play against, surely?

Jacks is on the sweep once more and although he doesn't get any bat on it, the ball runs away fine down leg and they run three leg byes.

Without wanting to tempt fate, the ball does seem to have softened up and is not spitting out of the surface in quite the same way as it was before lunch.

  12. Eng 203-5published at 38 overs

A couple of dot balls to end the over. Stokes will be on strike to start the next, he's been pretty quiet since lunch with Jacks playing his shots and having the majority of the strike.

It's a big boundary and that was a big hit. There was no real violence about that shot, he just timed it really.

England go to 200 in style as Jacks lifts the ball up over mid off and all the way over the rope for six! Super shot.

No holding back from the tourists. They have their way of playing and they're sticking to it!

That completely flummoxed Jacks. I think it flummoxed Rizwan too. Jacks didn't pick it and I'm not entirely sure Rizwan did either. It's just a bye but a great moral victory for the bowler.

Seeing as it's the end of term, I feel it's now completely legitimate to set my form off with some Christmas themed work while I give full focus to BBC's live feed.

Jacks hit that hard. It was a blameless ball.

  18. Eng 194-5published at 37 overs

The broom is out again as Jacks nails a sweep shot off Abrar, in front of square and there is no stopping that.

Abrar ends the over with a googly that completely did for Jacks. It bounces just over the top of middle but Rizwan didn't pick it either and the ball squirts away for a bye.

Big 'ooooohhhhs' and 'aaaaaahhhhs' from Rizwan. He's been very noisy in the post lunch session.

For a moment, it looked like it would carry through to short extra-cover.
