Accidentally stayed up. Supposedly on UK time here and you know at work in the morning and stuff. Now playing the "watch till the next wicket" game. But how can anyone take their eyes off this England side... When should I go to bed?? After the follow-on is enforced...

  2. drinks break

    NZ 87-5published at 30 overs

    Trail by 238

Time for drinks and after some initial struggles, it's been a good first hour for England thanks to wicket from Broad and Robinson.

New Zealand have got a job on their hands to get themselves anywhere close to England's first-innings total.

  4. NZ 84-5published at 29 overs

    Conway 39, Blundell 0

Good start from Leach as he gets his fourth delivery to bite out of the surface and beat Blundell's outside edge.

Decent bounce too for the left-arm spinner.

Congratulations! A strong early prediction but that Jimmy haul will have to wait, it's Jack Leach coming on to bowl the next over.

Day 2 from UK birthing centre. Baby beautifully delivered round the wicket by mum. Good competition all around. She may only be 17 hours old but first words appear to be "Jimmy fifer". You heard it here first...

Brilliant start from Ollie Robinson. With that wicket of Daryl Mitchell, England have got themselves back firmly in the ascendancy.

Tom Blundell also had a fine time with the bat in England last summer, though, so there is plenty of work still to be done.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 27.3 overs

    Mitchell lbw b Robinson 0 (NZ 83-5)

England have struggled to get Daryl Mitchell in the past but it helps when he doesn't offer a shot!

It's a really poor leave from the New Zealand batter. The ball might have nipped back a fraction but even without that, it looked far too tight to the stumps not to be offering a shot.

A quick chat with Conway but no review. Ball-tracking shows it wouldn't have helped - three reds.

Time for the first bowling change of the morning, Ollie Robinson will replace Anderson.

  10. NZ 82-4published at 27 overs

Back-to-back maidens and after Broad helped him out a few overs back, Anderson returns the favour.

The 40-year-old dives at full stretch at mid-on to deny Mitchell a boundary - or even a single - from the last ball of the over.

After the second Wagner six, Broad was signalling to Stokes, who was fielding on the boundary. Stokes told Broad to stick with the plan. Broad had a word with Ollie Robinson and Joe Root. Next ball, the slower ball, was chipped to Robinson.

Maiden over from Anderson. Probing around Conway's off stump.

The left-hander uses his feet to try and put Anderson off his length but to no avail, the England man just keeps plugging away.

That's what the tourists have got to do if this pitch stays as flat as it's looking right now.

England will be glad to have the breakthrough but now they have to face Daryl Mitchell, a man who they have really struggled to dismiss in recent meetings between the sides.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.4 overs

    Wagner c Robinson b Broad 27 (NZ 82-4)

Full... and chipped to mid-on! That's 1,000 up for the combination of Broad and Anderson.

Wagner was expecting another bouncer and ends up just spooning a leading edge to Ollie Robinson.

Broad and Anderson are now only one wicket shy of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath's record of 1,001 Test wickets in the games they played together.

  17. 6 runs

    NZ 82-3published at 24.3 overs

Stuart Broad has decided it's time to go with the short stuff to Wagner. It's not going very well so far...

The first ball of the over is pulled very fine for four, the next is nailed over square leg for six and the third is top-edged but high over long leg for six more.

That's the fifty partnership between Wagner and Conway.

  18. NZ 66-3published at 24 overs

    Trail by 259

That drop of Conway is starting to looking increasingly costly.

The New Zealand opener drives Anderson back down the ground, not perfectly timed but on this outfield it's hit well enough to run away for four.
