This series marks a new era for Australia.

Aaron Finch stood down as one-day international a matter of weeks ago.

There was clamour for David Warner to replace him, they even started the process of changing their rules to make it happen, but eventually Test captain Pat Cummins got given the role.

He's since given up the chance to play in next year's Indian Premier League from late March to manage his workload.

Australia captain Pat Cummins on BT Sport: It looks like a really good wicket, and I think it will stay the same so we'll have a chase tonight.

"I'm excited [to captain the ODI side for the first time], we've had a good week together and the guys are looking forward to it.

"We are playing at home and pride ourselves on winning, there's a lot to play for against the world champions England and it will be a good test for us."

England captain Jos Buttler on BT Sport: "All recovered, we've had a great few days but now time to settle down and focus on this game.

"We only have about 12 ODIs before the next World Cup so it's vital for individuals to take their opportunities and keep our standards. We've got some really talented players here looking to push their names forward for that squad.

"Luke Wood will make his ODI debut today and I'm excited to have Jason Roy back too."

Seven of the England's World Cup starting XI are still in Australia for this three-match series, plus travelling reserves Liam Dawson and Luke Wood. We'll find out how many are playing in the next few minutes.

There's a return for opener Jason Roy, who was dropped for the T20 World Cup after a poor run of form.

England are without the likes of Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, Mark Wood, Harry Brook and Ben Duckett, who are part of the Test squad which are playing Pakistan from 1 December.

Jonny Bairstow, Jofra Archer and Reece Topley are among those still on the sidelines with injury too.

    Morning.

That's right. England are about to play cricket again. Are they ever not these days?

Even Moeen Ali called the timing of this game "horrible".

Time for the first ODI against Australia in Adelaide. They are contextless too, the teams can't even earn points for the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
