It was a remarkable bit of fielding from Ashton Agar. The best ever? Good as it was, I reckon I've seen better - I'm thinking Nicholas Pooran in the IPL a couple of years back.

Dawid Malan does keep answering the critics. I really do feel sorry for him because time and time again he proves people wrong.

As a player when your captain and manager say "we don't want to risk you" going into a World Cup final - I don't want to be funny, but as a player you want to be risked. You want to play in a World Cup final.

You would rather play and help your team win and not play but say "what have I done throughout my career and the tournament".

The problem for Malan is that there was question marks about whether you could have him and Ben Stokes in the same team because both bat quite slowly.

England needed that anchor role today. Without Malan England could have been bowled out for less than 200.

It was a wonderful get out of jail innings from Dawid Malan. Without him England would have been in a lot of trouble.

He just wasn't really supported at all, on what is a good pitch.

He was composed and he played some glorious shots.

    Thanks, Ffion.

From 66-4 and 158-6, England have scrapped their way up to a competitive total thanks to Dawid Malan’s brilliant century.

Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa took three wickets apiece for Australia, who must be favourites given it looks a good batting surface and the short boundary.

Still, England have given themselves something to defend.

Two from the last ball and David Willey finishes with a very valuable 34 from 40 balls, the second-highest score of the innings.

Second to Dawid Malan, of course - who made a sublime 134. But it does look good for batting, so England will have to bowl very well.

Australia need 288 to win, and here is Sam Drury to take you through the interval and the chase.

That nearly killed Olly Stone! That was millimetres away from his melon. He had to move quicker than he has in his whole life or he would have been decapitated.

  10. Eng 285-9published at 49.4 overs

Oh, Olly Stone! You are lucky.

David Willey absolutely nails one back at him and he does very well to drop to the floor, allowing the ball to race away for four valuable runs. That whistled past his head.

    David Willey looks frustrated now.

A spinner bowling the last over, interesting.

But Ashton Agar starts with three dots. Pressure on David Willey.

  13. Eng 281-9published at 49 overs

A chaotic over comes to an end as Olly Stone is struck on the pads, which draws an appeal, but Pat Cummins opts against the review.

    He finishes with 3-62.

Luke Wood goes for a pull shot, gets a faint edge through to the keeper and waits for the umpire to give him out before he eventually walks.

One over to go. What can David Willey do?

That is a horrible catch to try and take because you're looking straight up in the sun and the ball is in the air for a long time.

This is up there as one of the most village pieces of cricket I have ever seen.

David Willey slogs, gets a top edge that sails over to deep square leg where Travis Head drops the catch.

And then to top it off, the batters forget to run so they end up scrambling a single at the last second.

Once the ball stopped nibbling around it has become a very placid batting track.

The secret will be to dink them around for the first 10, until the ball starts nibbling around.
