  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Berg c sub (White) b Helm 3 (Northants 146-7 v Middlesex 149)

Gareth Berg is on his way back to the pavilion without really troubling the scorers after a slightly curious innings. Berg had looked very watchful for 14 balls as Northants look to overhaul Middlesex's first-innings total. But given a bit of width by Tom Helm he flashes expansively into the hands of cover. He'll be frustrated at that lapse in concentration.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Steel c Middleton b Fuller 11 (Surrey 201-6 v Hampshire 254)

Cam Steel tries his luck again but sends the ball straight down the throat of Fletcha Middleton at deep mid wicket.

He was a hero at Old Trafford last week but won't be getting too many pats on the back for that. Ill-advised.

Sean Abbott joins Ollie Pope and the monastic dream of Abbott bowling to Abbott might be about to become a reality.

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 142-3

Brett D'Oliveira isn't hanging around, he's on 15 from as many deliveries as a watery sun emerges at Chester-le-Street.

Then Jack Haynes decides to get involved as well, driving Paul Coughlin through the covers for a nice boundary.

    Surrey 200-5 v Hampshire 254

Ollie Pope would genuinely be great on Strictly... if only he wasn't so busy year-round.

He showcases his twinkle toes to dance down the track to... Keith Barker of all people... and drive him down the ground gloriously for four to move into the 80s.

A single off the final ball brings up the 200. No bonus point, remember. That's 250 from this season.

  5. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 194-5 v Hampshire 254

Cam Steel was on a watchful three from 26 deliveries but clearly somehow managed to read what I just wrote about the short boundary at The Oval this week.

James Fuller sends one drifting towards leg and Steel clips it with expert timing all the way to the fence for six. Wonderful stuff.

The deficit is down to 60.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Kohler-Cadmore lbw Hutton 10 (Notts 256 v Soms 70-5)

Brett Hutton strikes with his fourth delivery, trapping Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

It looked middle and leg-ish, but umpire Mike Burns had no hesitation in sending the batter back to the pavillion.

    Notts right on top here.

    Northants 144-6 v Middlesex 149

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Ethan Bamber has two wickets in his first spell of the third day as he and his captain Toby Roland-Jones are bowling Middlesex back into the game.

Having been unlucky to miss out on selection in the opening round, when Middlesex went for their most experienced XI against Essex, Bamber has comfortably been the pick of the visiting bowlers and has reaped the rewards for his unerring line and length.

The visitors feared the older ball getting damp this morning with heavy overnight rain and the second new ball a long way away. And that may still play a part as former Middlesex all-rounder Gareth Berg is the next batter in and will be desperate to achieve against the club that discarded him over fears of a shoulder problem.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    McManus c Simpson b Bamber 5 (Northants 139-6 v Middlesex 149)

Rob Keogh has looked very organised for Northants this morning and he is slowly edging his side closer to Middlesex's first-innings total but he is running out of partners at the moment.

Lewis McManus is drawn into playing a delivery which was just back of a length from Ethan Bamber and nicked into the gloves of John Simpson.

That brings Gareth Berg, who you may be aware has played 10 T20 internationals for Italy, to the crease.

  9. Postpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 v Soms 65-4

It's cracking the flags at Trent Bridge as the sun beats down, sort of.

Stuart Broad is still wicketless after five overs, and he's been replaced by Brett Hutton.

  10. Postpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 185-5 v Hampshire 254

Ollie Pope has definitely upped the ante since passing 50.

He's breezed onto 70 and is playing some more expansive shots, attempting to sweep Keith Barker over the ropes just now, just not quite timing it and allowing Felix Organ to scamper round to limit the damage to a single on the short deep square leg boundary.

His famous average at the Oval has dipped back to double figures... he might want to try to remedy that here.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Libby c Bedingham b Coughlin (Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 118-3

Jake Libby pokes outside off stump, and the ball flies to David Bedingham at second slip. He juggles it but takes it at the third grab and Durham have their first wicket of the morning.

  12. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 367-3 v Kent

Some mixed news from Edgbaston... I'd say.

The umpires have completed their inspection and the suggestion is they will check again at 12:20 BST. If all is well an early lunch will be taken with the hope of play beginning at 13:10 BST.

That's your best case scenario, with only 16 overs lost, but we'll see how we go. Warwickshire fans try your sun dance. Kent fans... as you were!

  13. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset in deep trouble after losing Cameron Bancroft and Tom Abell in the first half hour, both to the South African quick Dane Paterson.

There is seam movement and swing on offer to the Notts bowlers, who are making the most of it.

  14. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 116-2

Slow outfield at Chester-le-Street - Jack Haynes' perfectly timed on drive off Paul Coughlin holds up some way short of the rope. That'll be the story of the day until it warms up, but the good news is that the sun is out in the north-east. Just.

  15. Chelmsford inspectionpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

As expected the umpires have decided there is too much water on the outfield at the County Ground so no play as of yet between Essex and Lancashire.

There will be another inspection at midday.

  16. Postpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 168-5 v Hampshire 254

Cam Steel has four first-class tons and bags of talent but coming in at seven to face a fired-up Kyle Abbott and Mohammad Abbas is quite the test... he works a single from the 14th ball he's faced to get off the mark.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Abell c Duckett b Paterson 13 (Notts 425-9 dec v Somerset 50-4)

    What a catch!

Dane Paterson provokes Tom Abell into a nudge outside off stump, and Ben Duckett pulls off a superb low catch at second slip to put the hosts firmly in control.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Cobb c Simpson b Roland-Jones 4 (Northants 126-5 v Middlsex 149)

A bowling morning at Wantage Road by the looks of things as Josh Cobb is dismissed by the impressive Toby Roland-Jones to give Middlesex their second wicket before lunch.

Roland-Jones bowled in the channel outside Cobb's off stump and the Northants man cannot resist playing at his fifth delivery and nicked a fine edge into the gloves of Middlesex wicketekeeper John Simpson.

  19. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 109-2

Matthew Potts is appealing after keeper Ollie Robinson makes a spectacular diving claim down the leg side, but the umpire is unmoved and Jake Libby breathes again.

  20. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Good news: the covers are off at Chelmsford. Bad news: the umpires are currently out there assessing whether the outfield is playable with concern over some patches of standing water. We should hopefully have a further update on when play will get underway between Essex and Lancashire shortly.
