    Middlesex 22-1 v Kent 186

    WHAT A CATCH!

Jordan Cox at first slip plucks the ball out of the air one-handed after Mark Stoneman's edge off Wes Agar was parried into the sky by Zak Crawley.

Agar gets the breakthrough for Kent and Pieter Malan joins Robson.

Stoneman would love that one back, you can tell, a back-foot flash has ended his day after just seven bals.

  2. MAXIMUM POINTS AND DURHAM DECLAREpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Durham 452-9d v Derbys

Brydon Carse hauls Ben Aitchinson for his second six to seal maximum batting points.

And Durham are happy with their lot and declare.

Carse walks off with his maiden ton, 108 not out, now what can he do with the ball?

  3. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Warwicks 150 v Surrey 7-0

Four slips in place but Chris Rushworth strays onto leg stump and Rory Burns clips it away for four to mid-wicket - the first boundary of the Surrey first innings.

  4. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex 22-0 v Kent 186

A fascinating opening over from Wes Agar, who beat the bat and was sent to the ropes, almost in alternate deliveries.

Mark Stoneman has 10 from five balls and picked up a couple of fours away through point.

Michael Hogan's first delivery is then clipped off his hips for four by Sam Robson who follows up with a straight drive for four two balls later and a cover drive to the fence two balls after that.

Bright and breezy from Middlesex, 22 from two overs and two openers with a strike rate approaching 200. How modern.

  5. Century for Carsepublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Durham 446-9 v Derbyshire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Brydon Carse is turning into the real deal as an all-rounder. Having reached 91 last week in Cardiff, his highest FC score, he's gone one better today and reached three figures.

He also put on 45 with Matty Potts for the ninth wicket to nudge Durham to within touching distance of a final batting point. Potts was run out for 16 by Ben Aitchison while going for a quick single, so Carse is now batting with Lancashire loanee Matt Parkinson.

It's amazing to see cricket resume before lunch today. The ground staff did a cracking job to get play underway at 12.15pm after so much rain overnight and this morning. We still have an 84-over day scheduled as well.

  6. wicket

WICKET Potts run out (Aitchison) 16published at 12:43 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Durham 441-9 v Derbys

Matty Potts nudges Mark Watts towards mid-on and sets off for a very sharp single.

    Too sharp.

Ben Aitchinson moves quickly to his right, gathers and throws down the non-striker's stumps.

Smart piece of fielding and Derbyshire have their third bowling point.

  7. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

That'll be a third batting point for the hosts as Tom Scriven squirts one away off Timm van der Gugten into the offside for a couple. Still nearly 20 overs to chase another, too.

A maiden first-class century for Brydon Carse!

A superb forcing shot off the back foot through cover for four takes him to 99 and a nudge through midwicket for two brings him a first hundred.

    113 balls, 11 boundaries and a six.

What an innings it's been from number seven to help Durham to a commanding first innings total.

    Middlesex 0-0 v Kent 186

Now then. What's all this. Kent have been out in the middle playing catch, the umpires are on the field, but there is wet stuff falling from the sky and the hovercover has been hauled into place.

This doesn't look heavy but it's enough to halt Middlesex's momentum, for a little while at least. Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman had come down the steps, then retreated back up them, but they're heading back again now.

The cover is gliding back off the field and the umpires have decided to crack on. A few minutes of delay but nothing to write home about.

Wes Agar takes the new ball.

    Leicestershire 345-6 v Glamorgan

He's gone. That's a fivefer for Timm van der Gugten who was hopping up and down in appeal after getting one to straighten up and thunder into the pads of Rehan Ahmed who was off balance.

The 177-run stand comes to an end and 18-year-old Ahmed falls narrowly short of his second first-class century. What a knock, mind.

Another bonus point for Glamorgan there too.

    WICKET - Stewart c Helm b Higgins 44published at 12:25 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

Middlesex v Kent 186 all out

    Grant StewartImage source, Rex Features

An extraordinary catch from Tom Helm after Grant Stewart top-edges an almight legside clip.

The ball flew into the air, Helm was floating inside the third man boundary but sprinted round behind the stumps, ten yards or so inside the rope, to take a superb diving catch on the run.

Kent fall short of their nominal target but it's better than it looked like it might be this time yesterday.

WICKET Rushworth lbw Worrall 7published at 12:22 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Warwicks 150 v Surrey

Warwickshire manage to extend their innings for only five overs at Edgbaston following a delayed start as Dan Worrall removes Chris Rushworth with a full-length delivery and finishes with 4-38.

He also took the other wicket to fall after the Bears resumed on 143-8, with Dan Mousley caught at deep mid-wicket for his overnight 55.

How will Surrey fare on this pitch? We will find out very shortly.....

Chris Rushworth pulls a short one from Dan Worrall for a single.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby, though, is unable to deal with another rising delivery and it hit by the ball, prompting a visit from the physio.

He's ok to carry on. Unsurprisingly, a bouncer follows but he managed to get out of the way.

Not what Derbyshire wanted after what was in the end a rather chastening day in the field yesterday.

  17. wicket

    WICKET - Agar c Bamber b Murtagh 7published at 12:18 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 180-8

    Sorry Kent fans.

That's 4-34 for Tim Murtagh as Wes Agar tries to launch him back over his head but gets his timing wrong and skies for Ethan Bamber to scamper across from mid-on to hold a catch falling forward.

Michael Hogan enters the fray for Kent.

  18. Postpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 180-8

Wes Agar slashed Tim Murtagh to the deep cover boundary and Grant Stewart hoiked the next ball, from Tom Helm, over mid-on to the ropes.

The word of the day for Kent is aggression. Putting 200 on the board looked miles away yesterday afternoon. They are 20 shy.

  19. 'Swashbuckling stuff' by Ahmedpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 336-5 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

    Rehan AhmedImage source, Rex Features

It’s been swashbuckling stuff under the lights from Leicestershire and England teenager Rehan Ahmed as he dominated a major partnership with Australian batter Peter Handscomb.

Ahmed played some crunching cover drives against the old ball, and though there have been a couple of edges through the slip area, he earned his luck by dispersing most of the close catchers quickly even when the new ball was taken.

The pair came together with the game in the balance at 168-5 but the Foxes now look set to top 400 for the third time in a row in the first innings.

In contrast, Glamorgan’s bowling attack is struggling again, and over-reliant on Timm van der Gugten and Michael Neser, despite having more variety than previous weeks.

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Quinn b Murtagh 11published at 12:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 166-8

    Tim MurtaghImage source, Rex Features

It was not textbook stuff by any means but Grant Stewart and Matt Quinn added 21 before Tim Murtagh found the gap between bat and pad to dislodge Quinn's off bail.

Wes Agar is the new man, joining his compatriot Stewart in the middle Still 34 shy of what Matt Walker said would make Kent competitive.
