    WICKET - Mousley c Patel b Worrall 55published at 12:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Warwicks 145-9 v Surrey

Dan Mousley comes down the track and flicks Dan Worrall away into the leg-side but picks out Ryan Patel, the lone man in the deep, who atones for dropping him on 16 on day one.

No addition to his overnight score by the left-hander, who faced 132 balls and hit eight fours.

    Oliver Hannon-Dalby is Warwickshire's number 11.

    Warwicks 145-8 v Surrey

Chris Rushworth collects the first runs of the day at Edgbaston, pushing a ball from Kemar Roach down the ground for two.

Wonder if the former Durham seamer is fancying his chances when it's his turn to bowl for Warwickshire in these conditions.

Was that a dropped catch off his own bowling? We rather think it was. Roach's fourth wicket will have to wait.

  3. Postpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Warwicks 143-8 v Surrey

Looks like Dan Mousley believes attack is the best form of defence. He is looking to play his shots but one whistles just past the edge as Dan Worrall starts with a maiden.

"Showers throughout the afternoon," says BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Clive Eakin. We hope he was talking about somewhere else.

  4. new ball

New ballpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 329-5 v Glam

Shiny new ball taken by Glamorgan.

But Timm van der Gugten immediately overpitches and Pete Handscomb drives him down the ground for four.

Another Australian, Michael Neser, is back as well to try and break the partnership.

But he's also driven straight past his bootlaces by Handscomb!

    Warwicks 143-8 v Surrey

So, how long can the 2021 champions prolong their first innings against the 2022 champions? We are about to find out.

Jordan Clark took two wickets with successive balls in the final over of day one and one more will give Surrey a full complement of bowling points.

It's Dan to Dan to start up - Worrall bowling to Mousley, who is 55 not out. Nothing to do with Dan Dan from Carry On Screaming.

  6. 12:15 BST start at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Durham 410-8 v Derbys

Successful inspection at the Riverside and they'll be underway shortly.

  7. 300 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 305-5 v Glam

A second batting point on the board for the Foxes.

Still 30 overs to go in the bonus point period.

  8. 50 runs

for Peter Handscombpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 298-5 v Glam

Fourth innings for Pete Handscomb this season and a third time past 50.

98 balls for this effort with four fours - including two this morning off Andrew Salter.

A slog sweep beat deep square to the fence and a cut through points brings him a half-century.

  9. 150 runs

up for Kentpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 152-6

Grant Stewart is a big strong man. He flicks his wrists at a delivery from Ethan Bamber and clips him away over the deep square leg boundary for six. Very similar to yesterday's antics.

Think that signifies what the gameplan might be for the visitors. The 150 is up. These two can punish anything loose, so Middlesex have brought on Tim Murtagh to try and outfox them.

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Compton c Simpson b Bamber 52published at 11:34 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 145-7

    Ben ComptonImage source, Rex Features

    And his average goes down...

Ethan Bamber produces a decent bouncer which draws the left-handed Ben Compton into a swat on the spin but he cn only edge to John Simpson who clutches the ball to his right.

A priceless knock for his side, again. Matt Quinn joins Grant Stewart, what will their gameplan be?

  11. 100 runs

partnershippublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 283-5 v Glam

Andrew Salter's off spin into the attack at Grace Road.

Last ball of the over, Rehan Ahmed is down the pitch to lift over mid-on for four.

Australian Peter Handscomb is at the other end on 40 but rather playing second violin to the 18-year-old.

The pair have a hundred partnership in 154 balls and Leicestershire are back on top.

  12. 50 runs

for Ben Comptonpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 139-6

Another immaculate contribution from Ben Compton. What a revalation he has been for Kent, and the county game.

He brings up his 10th first-class 50 with a streaky edge for four from the 165th ball he has faced. Unfashionable? Perhaps. Unflappable? Definitely.

This unbeaten 52 has not yet improved his first-class or season average.

  13. Better news from Edgbastonpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Warwicks 143-8 v Surrey - start delayed

The umpires have taken a look in Birmingham and play will commence at mid-day, with lunch to be taken at 1:45. It is hoped that, barring any further unwelcome weather, 88 overs will be possible before the close.

  14. 12:30 BST inspection at Bristolpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Glos v Sussex 47-1

The umpires want to give the outfield a bit more time at Nevil Road so they'll check again in just over an hour.

An early lunch will also be taken, which sounds like good news.

But the Bristol outfield has taken a battering in the past two months so don't count your chickens just yet.

  15. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 133-6

Grant Stewart rattles Tom Helm through the covers with gusto to begin his latest over.

Helm replies in superb fashion, beating the bat a couple of times and getting the Italian international to play inside the line before an overthrow from Ethan Bamber after a sharp single rolls all the way to the rope.

10 off the over, after all that.

  16. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 123-6

You're probably still in the middle of elevenses, but the Lord's floodlights have just flickered into life as there is blanket of cloud over St John's Wood. Hopefully nothing to worry about at this stage.

Ethan Bamber and Tom Helm operating from either end early on day two. Just 10 runs from the opening five overs. Kent won't mind that one jot.

  17. 50 runs

for Rehan Ahmedpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 255-5 v Glam

    Rehan AhmedImage source, Rex Features

Rehan Ahmed adds a third boundary of the opening 13 minutes and goes to his half-century.

It's a slightly strange swatty pull through mid-on but he has fifty in 70 balls.

  18. 250 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Leics 250-5 v Glam

Two-thirds of a day yesterday at Grace Road but they're away on time and Leicestershire have brought up a batting point.

Rehan Ahmed punched Timm van ger Gugten through the covers for four fifth ball of the day.

He tried again in the Flying Dutchman's next over and edged wide of second slip for four more before a leg bye raised the 250.

  19. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 28 April 2023

    Middlesex v Kent 121-6

Ben Compton is off and running with a boundary off Ethan Bamber's first over of the morning at Lord's. He moves onto 44.

There are a LOT of children enjoying a morning out at the grand old ground today. Do you remember the constant backgrund hum of vuvuzelas at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa? Well this is very similar.

When bat hits ball the high-pitched noise intensifies to something more akin to what I'd imagine a Taylor Swift concert is like.

Just another weekday morning on the county circuit...
