  2. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs 72-2 v Somerset 361

George Balderson gets in behind it and heads to the pavilion unbeaten on 38.

There's plenty more work to do tomorrow for Lancashire's batting lineup, who still trail by 289 runs.

Somerset's innings was built around a wonderful hundred from 19-year-old James Rew, while Matt Henry also blasted 50 down the order as the tail wagged.

  3. Postpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs 72-2 v Somerset 361

Will Williams blocks out Jack Leach's final over of the day.

Over to George Balderson, who is facing up to Kasey Aldridge.

  4. Close of play at Wantage Roadpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Northants 158 v Notts 157-4

It is indeed the close in Northampton.

Northants began the day very well and enjoyed a great first hour, reaching 113-2.

But then suffered an abominable collapse of 7-17 to throw it all away.

Brett Hutton took 5-37 on his return to Northampton, where he enjoyed great success for three seasons.

The hosts have just about kept themselves alive with four wickets but Joe Clarke's unbeaten 41 has Notts very well placed.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Bohannon b Leach 31 (Lancs 72-2 v Somerset 361)

Lovely bowling from Jack Leach, who is extracting some turn and bounce from this Old Trafford surface.

Josh Bohannon prods forward, but is beaten on his outside edge and bowled, to the delight of Steven Davies behind the stumps.

Will Williams is sent out as nightwatchman to see out the rest of the day.

  6. Bad light stops play at Wantage Roadpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Northants 158 v Notts 157-4

Light closes in with five overs remaining.

Probably all done for the day now.

  7. 150 runs

up for Nottspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Northants 158 v Notts 151-4

Still going with six overs left at Wantage Road.

Joe Clarke is 40 not out and is leading Notts' progress.

  8. Bad light stops play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Warwickshire 242 v Essex 126 & 86-4

Michael Pepper faces two balls before the umpires decide it's a bit gloomy, and take the players from the field.

You'd imagine that will be that for the day.

Warwickshire are well on top. Hasan Ali and Oliver Hannon-Dalby put on 70 for the 10th wicket earlier after the hosts' middle order collapsed, and Essex have since lost four wickets in their second innings.

Chris Rushworth has impressed again, taking 2-21 from 8.5 overs.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lawrence lbw b Rushworth 16 (Warwickshire 242 v Essex 126 & 86-4)

Chris Rushworth back into the attack, and Chris Rushworth strikes!

Dan Lawrence gets a little bit too far across his stumps and is pinned lbw.

It might have been sliding down, but Warwickshire don't care.

  10. Postpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs 59-1 v Somerset 361

If you're going to flash, flash hard.

Josh Bohannon chases a wide one from Kasey Aldridge, but it's through the slip cordon before they can react.

Bohannon moves to 27; George Balderson has 29.

  11. Stumps elsewhere...published at 18:28 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

It's stumps in the other three Division Two matches as well.

Worcestershire's fight to save the game at Glamorgan will go into a third day. They've closed on 195-7 but only lead by 46.

Sussex are in a strong position at Leicestershire on 319-4 with Tom Alsop making an unbeaten century.

Derbyshire have finished on 130-5 in their rain-hit game against Gloucestershire.

  12. Bad light and close at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Durham v Yorks 91-3 lead by 118

The umpires had a few checks but eventually decide the light is no longer good enough.

And the close with Yorkshire in a good spot.

Jonny Bairstow 16 not out with Dawid Malan on 33.

Earlier, Yorkshire chipped away well and were on the verge of a much bigger first-innings lead but Durham managed to recover from 132-6 and 173-9, with Ajaz Patel making 34 from number 11, to stay in the game.

Yorkshire have got the chance to take it away from them tomorrow.

  13. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Kent 95 v Hants 103-0

The conditions haven't improved at Canterbury, and that is that for day two.

In the very short spell of play we did have, Hampshire took the lead with all 10 wickets still in hand.

The visitors are firmly in control going into the third day.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Montgomery c Gouldstone b Sales 34 (Northants 158 v Notts 135-4)

Matt Montgomery and Joe Clarke were just beginning to grind Northants down but the home side have found the breakthrough.

James Sales just gets one to hold its line enough to take Montgomery's edge behind.

Still 14 overs left at Wantage Road so Notts will probably have their noses in front tonight.

  15. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Surrey 190-3 v Middlesex 209

It's hasn't got any lighter in SE11 and that's it for day two.

    Very much Surrey's day.

Captain Rory Burns looked in good touch and made 88, sharing a stand of 75 with Jamie Smith.

Smith also looked in great order and will come back tomorrow 55 not out - but he was dropped the ball before the players went off for bad light.

Smith and Foakes, unbeaten on 22, have got Surrey almost on terms and they'll hope to build a big lead on day three.

  16. Postpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Warwickshire 242 v Essex 126 & 69-3

Dan Lawrence charges Hasan Ali, attempting to hit the Pakistan seamer out of Birmingham, but doesn't connect, and the ball somehow misses the bails and goes over the top.

Ali cannot believe it, sinking to the turf in frustration.

  17. Elsewhere in Division Two...published at 18:02 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Glamorgan have just picked up Worcestershire's seventh second-innings wicket.

Gareth Roderick dragged part-time spinner Marnus Labuschagne onto his stumps to leave the visitors 184-7. They only lead by 35.

Sussex's batters continue to dominate at Leicestershire on 319-4. Tom Alsop (118 no) and James Coles (59 not) have put on 121 for the fifth wicket.

They're still off for bad light at Derbyshire v Gloucestershire. Derbyshire were 130-5 when they came off.

  18. 100 runs

lead for Yorkshirepublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Durham v Yorks 73-3 lead by 100

Jonny Bairstow is 10 from 38 balls and just struggling a little for any fluency - which he didn't find in the first innings.

He has a big waft at Bas de Leede and is fortunate not to nick off.

Dawid Malan is 25 at the other end and the lead is now into three figures with 14 overs still scheduled.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Cook lbw b Ali 18 (Warwickshire 242 v Essex 126 & 56-3)

    Alastair Cook has to go.

Hasan Ali nips one back from round the wicket, and Cook doesn't have to look at the umpire - he knows that's out, and drags himself back towards the pavilion.

  20. 100 runs

up for Nottspublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Northants 158 v Notts 100-3

Jack White with some poor luck.

Twice he has Joe Clarke edging but twice it's down and away from the slips cordon and four to third man.

20 overs still scheduled at Wantage Road, light permitting.
