  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Vasconcelos c James b Hutton 62 (Northants 129-8 v Notts)

Ricardo Vasconcelos can't resist any longer either!

It's the same story again as he pushes just outside off and nicks to the cordon.

That is now five almost-identical dismissals inside an hour.

Notts probing away nicely and Northants simply not good enough to resist the pressure.

Four wickets now for Brett Hutton and Notts on the verge of completely blowing their hosts away.

Wiaan Mulder takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Sussex have lost a couple of wickets at Leicestershire with both openers, Ali Orr and Tom Clark, falling to Wiaan Mulder.

Captain Cheteshwar Pujara and Tom Alsop are in with Sussex on 73-2. Steve Smith is due to come in next.

Glamorgan have built a mighty first-innings lead over Worcestershire. They're 258-9 and 149 in front with Michael Neser unbeaten on 86.

Lunch is being taken between Derbyshire and Gloucestershire where no play has been possible yet due to a wet outfield.

  3. 50 runs

    Durham 121-5 v Yorks 254

    Goodness did Durham need this.

71-5 they were in a hole but Ollie Robinson, now 34, and Graham Clark, 16, have got the excavators out.

Robinson in particular is a man to take the attack back to the bowlers.

He's struck four boundaries and the half-century stand comes up in 70 balls.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Taylor c Duckett b Hutton 0 (Northants 128-7 v Notts)

This is now full on carnage.

    It's Brett Hutton again.

Just operating in that tight channel around off, again the combination of a hint of movement away and hard hands from the batsmen produces an edge and it's another catch for Ben Duckett at second slip.

A nine-ball duck for Tom Taylor.

All the while, Ricardo Vasconcelos, on 61, hangs his head at the other end.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Gouldstone c Duckett b Hutton 0 (Northants 125-6 v Notts)

Harry Gouldstone only lasts four balls and Notts have ran through the Northants middle order in the last half hour.

Brett Hutton's in a good area, Gouldstone feels for one that leaves him a fraction and edges low to second slip.

Notts have taken 4-15 in seven overs.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs v Somerset 147-5

It's an incredibly tough chance, but it goes down as a drop nonetheless.

Kasey Aldridge nicks a wide delivery from Will Williams, and it just carries to George Bell, diving in front of first slip.

Bell gets a glove to it, but can't cling on, and Aldridge scampers through for a single to get himself off the mark.

  7. Neser shinespublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Glamorgan 238-9 v Worcestershire 109

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan’s lead climbed well into three figures as Worcestershire were unable to build on the early dismissal of Billy Root, caught at slip off Adam Finch for 28.

But key bowlers Michael Neser and Timm van der Gugten came together with the bat to see off the opening spells from the Pears’ seamers.

The visitors went without a slip, posting two men catching close on the leg-side instead, and managed to contain the scoring rate on a slowish pitch.

The belated introduction of Worcestershire captain Brett D’Oliveira and his leg-spin made the breakthrough they needed as Van der Gugten was caught behind for 19 and James Harris followed in the next over.

    Neser has 72.

    Warwickshire 84-2 v Essex 126

Essex bowler Shane SnaterImage source, Rex Features

Will Rhodes and Sam Hain continue to accumulate nicely for Warwickshire, moving to 34 and 37, respectively.

Essex skipper Tom Westley decides it's time for a change of tack, and turns to Simon Harmer's spin for the first time.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Sales lbw b Mullaney 1 (Northants 125-5 v Notts)

    Northants now in huge trouble.

James Sales managed 19 balls for just 1 before he simply played around Steven Mullaney's medium pace.

  10. 50 runs

for James Rewpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancashire v Somerset 144-5

    Well batted young man.

James Rew skews Saqib Mahmood past gully for four, before assertively cutting in front of square for four more.

A single tucked into the leg-side then brings up his 50 from 125 balls, which has included six fours.

It's the 19-year-old's third first-class 50, to go with two hundreds.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lammonby c sub (Jones) b Mitchell 38 (Lancs v Somerset 135-5)

A first Lancashire wicket for Daryl Mitchell!

Tom Lammonby has stuck around for so long, 184 balls in fact, but has thrown it away somewhat.

He chases a wide one from Mitchell, and slashes to Rob Jones at second slip.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Keogh c Clarke b Hutton 0 (Northants 114-4 v Notts)

Four balls later and a second wicket of day two for Notts.

Rob Keogh fiddles at his second delivery, a length ball just outside off from Brett Hutton that he should have left, and nicks it behind.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Zaib c Duckett b James 35 (Northants 113-3 v Notts)

It had been a very good opening hour for Northants but now Notts have struck.

Lyndon James with the breakthrough from round the wicket as Saif Zaib drives loosely at a wide ball and edges to second slip.

  14. 50 runs

for Ricardo Vasconcelospublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Northants 109-2 v Notts

It was a torturous 2022 for Ricardo Vasconcelos.

Burdened with the Northants captaincy after a last minute change by management, he struggled for runs in a season of gluttony for many.

He stood down midway through the campaign and numbers improved.

This season he's been battling a very bowler-friendly first few weeks but here gets to a second fifty of the campaign a hard-working 149 balls with four fours.

  15. Anderson off the fieldpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs v Somerset 133-4

Lancashire's bowling attack this morning isn't at full strength.

James Anderson hasn't bowled today and is off the field receiving treatment for a "minor issue".

Cross your fingers and toes, England fans...

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Bedingham lbw b Thompson 6 (Durham 71-5 v Yorkshire 254)

Yorkshire have a third wicket inside the opening 45 minutes and are now on top.

David Bedingham gets his head too far outside off and misses one angled in from Jordan Thompson.

Durham have lost 3-10 in a little over fours overs.

  17. Handwarmers the order of the daypublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Durham 71-4 v Yorkshire 254

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's a really chilly day in the north east but we did start on time in CLS. Yorkshire's 12th man has already been busy ferrying supplies of handwarmers to the players.

Even umpire Ben Debenham grabbed one! At the other end Paul Baldwin's face is barely visible, tucked away under a snood.

As our commentary colleague Ash Thorpe said "it's a good day for bowling, but not for fielding". I gather it's like this across the country today. Thankfully we are indoors with the heating on.

Yorkshire have taken two wickets so far. Nightwatchman Matthew Potts fell lbw for seven to Jordan Thompson. Not long after that skipper Scott Borthwick edged Matthew Fisher to Adam Lyth at second slip. The fielder took a great, low catch, around the ankles. Borthwick made 35.

  18. Postpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Lancs v Somerset 118-4

A first showing with the ball in Lancashire colours for Daryl Mitchell, and the Kiwi all-rounder shows what he's all about.

He's no great pace, but operates in that fourth stump channel, asking questions.

David Lloyd is singing the praises of young Somerset batter James Rew on Lancashire's commentary feed, and you can understand why. He shapes up very nicely.

Rew has had a life this morning, but has a good temperament, and will fancy a big score on what looks a belting pitch.

  19. Division Two latestpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Elsewhere in Division Two, Michael Neser's fine match is continuing for Glamorgan.

The Australian has just gone past 50 to go with his four wickets in the first innings against Worcestershire.

Glamorgan are 205-7 and leading by 96.

Sussex are off to a solid start on what is technically the opening day at Leicestershire. Tom Clark and Ali Orr have taken them to 27-0.

An inspection has taken place at Derbyshire and they'll take an early lunch at 12:30 BST. It's dry, but there are still a few concerns about the outfield.

  20. Postpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Warwickshire 39-2 v Essex 126

A solid opening half-hour for Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Sam Cook and Jamie Porter are nipping it about a bit, but Will Rhodes and Sam Hain have dealt with it well so far, playing the ball late.

Hain in particular has impressed - he has 15 from just 20 balls.
