    Notts 442 v Essex 298 & 231-2

Following a three-over burst at the start of play, Stuart Broad is back in the attack with a new ball in his hand.

Tom Westley adds a single to reach 84 not out and that's the only scoring from the over.

    Glamorgan 123 & 551-6 v Sussex 481

Jack Carson has certainly put in a shift, bowling unchanged so far this morning but without any success and he's just been cut through point for four by Michael Neser.

The Australian added another off-side boundary to bring up 550 and he's moved on to 13, while Chris Cooke has 38 not out.

Glamorgan's lead is now nudging up towards 200, helped by a rather untidy delivery from Tom Haines that sailed away for four byes.

Alastair Cook's dismissal for 99 a few minutes ago has handed a chance for some batting practice to England's Dan Lawrence.

He plays out a maiden from Liam Patterson-White and the new ball is now due.

    Gloucs 247-7 - target 426

Short from Ben Raine at the start of a new over and Josh Shaw helps it on its way to long leg for four.

Gloucestershire's target remains remote - they need another 179, but the home dressing room will be content with their progress so far this morning.

for Marcus Harrispublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Gloucs 241-7 - target 426

Alastair Cook didn't manage it, but Marcus Harris has.

The Gloucestershire opener uses his feet before lofting spinner Ajaz Patel down the ground for four to reach his century off 163 balls.

It's his second of the season for Gloucestershire - and 26th in all first-class cricket.

    Sussex 481 v Glamorgan 123 & 533-6

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Sussex managed a vital breakthrough in the first half-hour as Glamorgan acting captain Kiran Carlson drilled a return catch to seamer Ari Karvelas to fall for a career-best 192.

He had lobbed Karvelas just short of mid-wicket two runs previously, but could not make the most of the let-off and will have to wait to see if he remembers his superb marathon effort as a match-saving knock.

Sussex will fancy their chances of chasing anything under 250, but their attack is without England paceman Ollie Robinson (ankle problem), while skipper Cheteshwar Pujara is also off the field.

Glamorgan’s score is already the biggest improvement they have ever made between first and second innings, and Chris Cooke is now the main man in the long march towards possible safety.

    Glos 292 & 229-7 v Durham 445 & 272-4 dec

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Australian opener Marcus Harris is in great nick at the moment. Having recently been named in the Australia for this summer's encounters in England, he has made back-to-back half centuries against Durham.

He's currently on 90 and has not really looked in too much trouble since he came in yesterday. Equally, Durham don't have to worry too much about getting him out, as long as wickets fall at the other end.

They returned this morning needing four wickets to seal their first win in Bristol. The first took 21 minutes to come. Matt Taylor fell lbw to spinner Ajaz Patel on 12, playing over a dipping full toss.

Patel has taken eight wickets in the game and I imagine he will spend much of what remains of today's play bowling from the Pavilion End.

Alastair Cook is not renowned for shows of temper, but he is surely feeling slightly narked right now.

The elusive Trent Bridge century - he hasn't managed one for Essex or England - continues to elude him as he tries to cut a ball which is too close for the shot and keeper Joe Clarke catches him via the under-edge.

Cook batted for 296 minutes, faced 228 balls and hit 11 fours, adding 157 with Tom Westley.

"Wonder if we'll see him on this ground again," ponders BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle.

    Glamorgan 123 & 529-6 v Sussex 481

The wicket of Kiran Carlson for 192 doesn't seem to have opened the floodgates for Sussex just yet.

Chris Cooke is looking nicely set on 34 not out and he's just steered Fynn Hudson-Prentice to the third man boundary, with Michael Neser alongside him on three.

Meanwhile, Sussex skipper Cheteshwar Pujara is not on the field - although it's unclear why at this stage. Sussex already had at least one sub fielder, deputising for Ollie Robinson.

A maiden from Lyndon James to Alastair Cook who is tantalisingly poised on 99 not out.

Josh Shaw is certainly not willing to play passively against Ajaz Patel's left-arm spin.

He hits the first ball of a new over down the ground for four and follows it with one to mid-wicket.

A bit more agricultural that one, but just as effective.

Lyndon James strays onto Alastair Cook's pads and the former England skipper effortlessly flicks it down to fine leg for four.

He keeps the strike with a single to end the over and is just three runs away from that first-ever century at Trent Bridge.

    Glamorgan 123 & 519-6 v Sussex 481

Sussex will be encouraged by the fact the ball is keeping low at times. New man Michael Neser has had to dig out a couple from Ari Karvelas since he replaced Kiran Carlson at the crease.

Less scope for confusion now spinner Jack Carson, who's wheeling away at the other end, is no longer bowling to Carlson...

Chris Cooke is still there for Glamorgan, with 26 to his name, and the visitors lead by 161 with four wickets standing.

No sign that Essex are contemplating pushing on in the hope of declaration later on.

Notts make another change and call up Liam Patterson-White for some slow left-arm tweakers.

Josh Shaw is a good enough batter to deal with that sort of delivery and he square cuts for four as Ajaz Patel pulls one down short of a length.

Gloucestershire are almost half-way to their target and if it offers them any encouragement, they began needing another 245 to win - exactly the same as Worcestershire required at the start of play in their day three win over Leicestershire.

The difference is that Worcestershire had a lot more wickets in hand.

Just three overs from Stuart Broad in his opening spell of the day.

Understandable, as there are only 10 to go before the new ball is due and Lyndon James takes over.

Well, Kiran Carlson has beaten his career-best score - but he'll be kicking himself at missing out on the chance of a maiden double hundred!

Ari Karvelas is the man who makes the breakthrough for Sussex, taking a routine return catch off Carlson's straight drive.

Six hours at the crease, with 18 fours and two sixes - a magnificent effort by Glamorgan's acting captain. Will it be enough to save the game? They lead by 152.

Just three more wickets needed by Durham.

Maybe Matt Taylor was looking for some turn from Ajaz Patel because he pushed down the wrong line and it came straight on.

A third victim in this innings for the New Zealand spinner, who claimed 5-113 in the first. Josh Shaw is the new batter.

Alastair Cook tries to pinch a single off Stuart Broad, but is sent back by Tom Westley as Dane Paterson homes in on the ball.

He does collect a run later in the over and moves to 90 not out. The Essex lead is 64.
