Another firm drive from Zak Crawley looks to be headed for the boundary before Marnus Labuschagne dives to get a hand on it at mid-off. That saves a run,

The slip cordon go up as the ball flies past Duckett down the leg side. Did he get a tickle on that?

No, the umpire is unmoved, Pat Cummins isn't interested and turns quickly back to his mark. UltraEdge then shows it flicked thigh pad rather than willow.

Both opening stands have reached 40 at Lord's, that is only the fourth time in the last 73 Tests here since 1982 where that has happened.

Nailed through the off side now! Four more!

Zak Crawley crunches Mitchell Starc on the up and looks to be finding a bit of rhythm.

When Crawley plays shots like that, he makes it look very easy. He plays through that arc, he's beautifully balanced.

    Top shot!

Full, on the pads and Zak Crawley whips it away through mid-wicket. No stopping that, it was right out of the screws and flew to the fence.

Out comes one of the slips.

If Duckett never leaves the ball, is bouncing him out a worthwhile tactic? Pack the leg-side field and bowl short - he might score a couple of sixes but if you refuse to duck(ett) 90mph bouncers, you'll miscue one eventually.

It's all been pretty cool, calm and collected after lunch. England are playing pretty straight and getting themselves in. Good for batting.

Another firm drive from Zak Crawley ends the over.

Pat Cummins gets a hand to it and nearly deflects it back onto the stumps. Ben Duckett looked to be safely back in his crease, though.

    Just a single.

I think Crawley might be standing just over to the off stump, if Cummins can jag one up the hill, there might be up the gate open for him.

Forget the Lord's hum, Zak Crawley wants to hear the crowd roar and helps turn up the volume with a gorgeous on drive for four.

That was a half-volley from Pat Cummins but the next ball isn't. Crawley takes it on anyway, hitting on the up through mid-off for three.

Signs that Bazball may have stirred from its slumber.

More sensible cricket from the England openers to get through another Mitchell Starc over.

Zak Crawley gets himself a pair of singles with defensive shots dropped into the covers and Ben Duckett adds one of his own with a dab to point.

This is the sort of cricket that really matches the traditional Lord's hum.

A bit of Test cricket seems to have broken out. Someone must have had a word.

Three from Pat Cummins' over as Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley exchange singles following a leg bye first ball.

Duckett's run came via an inside edge that gets the Australia fielders excited. We saw plenty of them in the Australia innings.

It must be that sort of pitch.

We all know that Ben Duckett doesn't like to leave the ball but he provides a good example of where maybe he should consider it here...

Quite wide but a decent length from Mitchell Starc and Duckett just hangs his bat out at it. A nothing shot and one Australia will be keen to see him try again.

Ben Duckett scores the first runs of the afternoon with a firm on-drive that Pat Cummins can only half-stop at mid-on.

Nicely timed by the England opener and he gets back for two.
