    Thanks, Tom. Another fine stint.

Plenty of blue sky over Lord's but also a fair few clouds - with one particularly gloomy-looking one hanging over the pavilion.

England will hope the sun and blue sky wins out as they continue their reply to Australia's 416.

Mitchell Starc will bowl the first over of the session.

After a fascinating first session it is time for me to take a break.

Will the England batters Bazball it up in the afternoon? Or will the Australia seamers make inroads?

Whatever happens, Sam Drury is the man to guide you through the action.

Why do people keep saying England need to bat properly? They are going to bat their way - we need to get behind that!

Steve Smith is, without question, the best Test batsman of all time (outwith Bradman). His unpopularity with England fans doesn’t change this.

Come on England, declare now. Bowl Australia out again and let’s show them what we’re made of in the second innings 👍 #Bazball

  4. Club cricketer who hit century after cancer diagnosis invited to Lord'spublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 29 June 2023

There is a very special guest at Lord's today - Club cricketer Jonathan Mills.

The 54-year-old says he aims to carry on playing cricket as long as possible despite a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Mills hit 110 off 123 balls for Brookweald second XI just days after learning that chemotherapy treatment had not worked.

And it earned him an invitation from MCC president Stephen Fry to watch day two of the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

"I'll go and have a chat with Mr McCullum and see if he needs any tips," he told BBC Essex's Around The Wicket.

Steve Smith's technique is something that would never be taught to kids learning cricket and isn't the most pleasant to watch, but his hand eye coordination must be the best amongst all batters in the current generation.

James Anderson's dismissal of Mitchell Starc means he becomes just the tenth player in Ashes history to take 114 wickets. He goes level with Raymond Lindwall in ninth on the all-time list.

Re verb surnames (12:58). A friend of mine and I drove around Australia, playing a similar game. Turning a sportspersons name into a question. Eg…does Vijay Singh? Is Neil Back? Will Ian Rush?

Here are the final two wickets to fall as Australia were all out for 416.

The tourists lost their final seven wickets for 100 runs which represents a decent recovery by England, who were on the ropes at one stage yesterday.

MCC chief executive and secretary Guy Lavender was on BBC 5 Live Breakfast this morning to discuss the Just Stop Oil protest at Lord's yesterday...

On possibility of protests: "It was a core part of our planning, and it was really unfortunate yesterday. But I think unless you’ve got a physical barrier between the stands and pitch these protests are going to happen.

"Ultimately we had a good operational plan, the stewards were on the pitch and we were lucky that the players intervened in the way that they did. But it was pretty unfortunate I have to say."

On players stopping protesters: "That’s really a matter for Team England, but we weren’t expecting players to intervene. But necessity took over and that’s what they did, and I’m pleased that they did.

"The real issue for me… is I understand the sustainability agenda, we’ve got a lot of work to do. But I just don’t agree with the methods. I think it just disrupts and makes a misery for lots of fee-paying people that have come to watch cricket, and it’s a shame."

England needed early wickets and they got them. Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc falling for the cost of seven runs.

Pat Cummins angles one in to Zak Crawley but is shapes away and beats the outside edge. Brilliant delivery from the Aussie skipper.

Cummins continues to find that dangerous line just outside off but Crawley comfortably leaves to see us through to lunch.

That was a tricky little session successfully negotiated by England. They needed to have the better of the morning to stay in this match and they have.

Zak Crawley doesn't quite time a punchy drive off the back foot and Marnus Labuschagne is able to claw the ball back just from the rope and England run three.

England were probably hoping that would be it for the session but it looks like we will squeeze one more in before lunch.

With impeccable timing Ben Duckett ignores that advice by going after a wide delivery and finding a thick edge that flies over gully and away for four.

Still lots of swing there for Mitchell Starc.
