  1. Aus 206-8published at 63.5 overs

A flashy waft from Travis Head to yet another short ball from Chris Woakes.

One ball left with Head on strike and Ben Stokes summons his key confidantes together for a mini cabinet meeting on how to prevent the single.

Todd Murphy has barely seen any of the strike.

I think it's one of the hardest things in cricket, when you face a batter who is set in, the range of shots they have. If it's not in Travis Head's area, he can just block it with no risks.

  3. 6 runs

    Aus 206-8published at 63.3 overs

    Lead by 232 runs

Travis Head, who has shaved his moustache off after a recent razor-related mishap, pulls Chris Woakes to the boundary for six.

A tricky period for England here.

This doesn't feel sensible from England. We all criticised the Aussies for putting everyone back. This field is telling Head we only think we can get him out if he mis-hits one up in the air.

That's a length delivery in the slot. Travis Head has played very well. It will be interesting to see how Todd Murphy fares against Chris Woakes.

  7. 50 runs

Fifty for Headpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

Short again from Mark Wood, but Travis Head hauls him off the front foot to the boundary to bring up his 13th Test half-century.

    It's come off 94 balls.

  8. Aus 195-8published at 62.5 overs

    Mark Wood is bowling gas.

The penultimate ball of the over, though, is surely wide. It's banged in and there's no way Travis Head could play a legitimate cricket shot to that.

Wood got away with one there.

If we get 15 minutes to bat tonight, send out broad and wood. Double nighthawk them.

Have you ever seen two Test matches where so many baseball shots have been played?

  11. Aus 189-8published at 62.2 overs

Mark Wood is like a pitbull chewing a wasp as he attacks the crease with the field back to Travis Head.

His second delivery just sits up off the pitch and Head drags a pull beyond mid-wicket to the boundary for four.

The Aussies might bemoan having to bat in these conditions, but they're paying the price for not making hay when the sun was shining for 49 overs yesterday.

To go out there just to survive when the ball is moving is tough. The length Wood is bowling at allows you to have a bit more of a swing at it.

    Breathless stuff again.

Let's pause for a moment to enjoy this catch from Harry Brook to get rid of Mitchell Starc.

Short and wide from Chris Woakes again and this time Travis Head slices it through point for four more.

There's plenty happening out there. Australia are just trying to strike. Jonny Bairstow has been diving about everywhere. Australia are 64-4 today off 14 overs, the game is moving on.

Mark Wood has got Pat Cummins out twice in this match, bowling just six balls to him without conceding a run. That has happened only once before in England, at Headingley in 1961, with Fred Trueman getting out Richie Benaud twice for no runs.
