    Kent 355-4 v Notts

More frustration for Fernando as the Sri Lankan pace man spears one into leg stump and Harry Finch feathers it fine for four runs.

Kent are on the verge of a very, very good day's play here, but it's gloomy at Canterbury and a wicket now would make batting a tough occupation for the newcomer.

  2. Kent pass 350 at Canterburypublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 351-3 v Notts

Finch drives Hutton through wide mid off - and that's good running by the Kent pair to take three and guide the hosts to their third bonus point.

The landmark is applauded by the home supporters.

It's getting a bit gloomy now - and we might be off before the allocation of overs. 10 left now.

Warwickshire make their third breakthroigh ocf the day - and their first in precisely six hours as Emilio Gay edges Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Michael Burgess snaffles the catch,

OHD then could have had another three balls later but skipper Will Rhodes puts down new batsman Rob Keogh at slip.

Karun Nair is still there, however, within reach of a century on his debut.

    Kent 3474 v Notts

Leaning is struck on the thigh pad by Fernando and takes a leg bye as shadows beam onto the floodlit St Lawrence ground.

Finch gets a short one and chops it away safely through third man for two.

    Kent 339-4 v Notts

Watchful batting from Kent since the new ball.

But the fourth ball of Hutton's second over with the fresh cherry is driven from outside the line of off stump down to long on for four runs.

Kent are wrestling for the momentum here and have a good platform for maximum batting points if they can survive this floodlit mini-session.

    12 overs left.

It has taken until a quarter past five on the first day - bui finally that tempting short boundary in front of the Eric Hollies Stand has been cleared.

It tok a Craig Miles long hop to do it though. Karun Nair gave it the treoatment it deserved and pulled effortlessly over the rope.

  9. In Division Twopublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

Away from the top flight, here's the state of play...

Glamorgan have got a foothold in their game against Yorkshire at Cardiff, where they've taken two wickets inside four overs.

But the visitors are still in a good position on 259-3 with Shan Masood 83 not out.

James Wharton was the last wicket to fall, LBW to McIlroy for three.

Leicestershire have dismissed Sussex for 262 at Hove but they've lost an early wicket in reply.

Sol Budinger was caught by Henry Crocombe off the bowling of Ari Karvelas for a duck.

The visitors are 243 behind on 19-1.

Gloucestershire are in calmer waters against Derbyshire at Bristol and have their first batting bonus point on 251-4.

Ollie Price is 75 not out.

    Northants 150-2 v Warwickshire

Emilio Gay and Karun Nair are still going well in what has now turned out to be a decent end to he day, weather wise at least, at Edgbaston.

In and around two rain breaks, which lopped 23 overs off the day, it is now more than five hours since the Bears took their second wicket this morning,

The pair have put on 126 in 41 overs - with Gay on 70 and experienced India Test player Nair 65 on his debut.

  12. Postpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 329-4 v Notts

Paterson and Fernando are itching to get their hands on the new ball but Harrison is still in the attack for now.

Finch pushes the fourth ball neatly into the off side for one.

That's 80 bowled. No new ball yet though.

  13. Postpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 325-4 v Notts

The new ball is due at 80 overs and I daresay Notts will take it straight away for their best chance of taking more wickets.

Edged! But the ball goes between keeper Tom Moores and first slip Calvin Harrison for four. Let off for Harry Finch.

Another ball beats the bat and the keeper! Two leg byes.

Harrison has had a good day. Two wickets - one a sensational caught and bowled to dismiss Crawley, and a second catch to prize out Muyeye off Mullaney.

Leaning gets a single off the second ball of Harrison's latest over and Finch is off the mark first ball with a neat drive.

  20. wicket

WICKET Muyeye c Harrison b Mullaney 35published at 16:37 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    307-4 v Notts

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Mullaney replaces Paterson in the attack for the 73rd over.

Muyeye eases the first ball into the off side for two and edges the fifth ball past keeper Tom Moores for four. No first slip. Shame for Notts.

Caught! Muyeye drives, edges - and this time we do have a slip to take the catch. Notts are still very much in the contest.

Harry Finch will bat next. Over to you, Dave:

    "They're keeping Kent within range."
