  1. rain stops play

Rain in Birminghampublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Northants 233-7 v Warwickshire

An ugly grey cloud coming in from the Selly Oak direction has burst and is suddenly emptying its contents on Edgbaston.

The players and umpires have scurried for cover.

And the groundstaff have hovered the hover-cover on, to protect the wicket itself.

They have now also unfurled the sheet cover, which indicates a longer absnce from the field.

  2. 6 runs

for Aron Nijjarpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 430-6 v Notts

My word. Dane Paterson has banged one in short to the left-hander which is always drifting towards leg and Aron Nijjar has swivelled and hooked the ball all the way to the rope at long leg... the ball landing just beyond it for a maximum.

What a way to introduce yourself to your new side.

The 110th over has been completed. Kent have to settle for four batting bonus points with Notts taking two bowling points.

  3. Solid start in Cardiffpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Yorkshire 362-3 v Glamorgan

Yorkshire overnight pair Shan Masood and George Hill have made a solid start after the late commencement of proceedings in Cardiff.

Half an hour gone, 29 added and no wickets lost.

  4. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Bristolpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 376-9 v Derbys

It's wet and blustery at Bristol now, I'm afraid.

Derbyshire may have to wait till this afternoon to take the final Gloucestershire wicket.

Derbyshire have the better of the mini session of play this morning, with 3-43 so far.

  5. Five-wicket haul for Dalpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 376-9 v Derbys

That dismissal of Ed Middleton gives Anuj Dal figures of 5-69.

  6. wicket

WICKET Middleton lbw b Dal 9published at 11:27 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 376-9 v Derbys

Out! Middleton first innings at this level ends playing around a straightening ball from Anuj Dal.

He's hit in front of middle halfway up.

Luke Charlesworth joins Goodman at the crease.

  7. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 423-6 v Notts

Brett Hutton brought into the attack nearly an hour into the session at Canterbury.

Feels like Kent have decided not to aggressively pursue the final batting bonus point and as such the aim will be to bat for as long as possible, before letting their spinners loose on this track.

Surely can't be long before we see Calvin Harrison who got some turn in his long spell yesterday.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Roland-Jones c Wells b Wood 26published at 11:24 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs v Middx 174-9

We need a new ball here at Old Trafford after the current one fails the umpire "metal rings" test.

Out! Luke Wood drops short, Roland-Jones goes for the pull and top edges a catch to Luke Wells at fine leg.

Ethan Bamber is the last batter for Middlesex.

  9. wicket

WICKET Shaw c&b Conners 18published at 11:19 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 362-8 v Derbys

    Comfortable? Nope. Not any more.

One ball after a back foot push through cover for four, Josh Shaw drives late at the ball, lofting it straight back to the bowler, who completes the grab just off the deck, tumbling to his left.

Time for Dominic Goodman to have a bat.

  10. Postpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 362-7 v Derbys

Three slips and a gully in for Derbyshire's Anuj Dal - who is looking for his fifth wicket of the innings.

The third ball of his over is nudged between third slip and gully by Shaw for four runs. Four more flayed through cover off the fifth ball - and the hosts look comfortable after the early loss of Ollie Price this morning for a career best 132.

  11. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs v Middx 174-8

Not a great morning for Lancashire's attack so far.

A slightly mixed line and length has made batting a little bit easier for Middlesex. Well, a lot easier compared to Sunday morning.

Wood is bowling short around the wicket to Roland-Jones, who pulls the ball away for one.

    Robson defends.

  12. wicket

WICKET Leaning c Mullaney b Paterson 64published at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 411-6 v Notts

Jack Leaning goes. That's a big scalp for the visitors. The skipper aims to clip Dane Paterson off his pads but can only chip straight to Steven Mullaney at midwicket.

Aron Nijjar is the new man, on his debut for Kent, on loan from Essex.

Under six overs left to seek 39 runs for a potentially vital point. Stick or twist?

  13. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Sussex 262 v Leicestershire 80-6

As happy as Sussex will be at Leicestershire's struggles this morning, the most delighted party of all will surely be Durham.

The Division Two leaders are not in action this week and look certainties for the title anyway, but they will have their promotion back to the top flight mathematically confimed if the third-placed visitors fail to secure any batting bonus points at Hove today.

  14. Gloucestershire pass 350 at Bristolpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 351-7 v Derbys

Middleton has his first boundary, deflecting Dal through midwicket for four runs.

They have reached 350 in 91.1 overs - and of course a third batting bonus point.

Can Middleton and Shaw get a fourth?

  15. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs v Middx 170-8

One slip and a gully in for Toby Roland-Jones now, and the Middlesex captain nails a straight drive down the ground for four to move to 20.

The ninth wicket partnership is now worth 36 runs.

Make that 40 as Luke Wood's last ball to Roland-Jones is back of a length and pulled past Luke Wells through the on side for four.

  16. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 346-7 v Derbys

Can Gloucestershire get another batting point here?

Middleton picks up his third run, tucking Conners into the leg side for an easy single.

Shaw is playing and missing outside off stump until the last ball which is dropped into the off side safely for two.

  17. wicket

WICKET Cox b Karvelas 0published at 11:01 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Sussex 262 v Leicestershire 78-6

Oh no. Ben Cox has shouldered arms but Ari Karvelas has nipped it back to demolish off stump. The last thing Leicestershire needed. Karvelas has 3-14 from nine overs and 32 for the season.

The promotion-chasing Foxes are 10-4 this morning.

Tom Scriven is the next man in. Sussex have their tails up.

  18. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs v Middx 158-8

Luke Wood is in the attack and Robson seizes on width outside off stump to guide the ball safely to third man for four.

He's playing a gem of an innings here.

A quieter feel to this morning's play after a clatter of wickets on Sunday morning.

  19. Postpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 400-5 v Notts

Joey Evison brings up a fourth batting bonus point for the home side.

Nine overs left to seek 50 runs for a fifth. Not sure how hard they'll push for them.

  20. wicket

    WICKET Zaib c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 10published at 10:55 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Northants 217-6

Immediate joy for the Bears with the new ball.

OHD strikes third ball. His fourth wicket of the tinnings, to take him to 41 first-class scalps for the season.

Tom Taylor is the new man in.
